How do you tell your parents, "I want to see the MLP movie." [RESOLVED]

So, the new MLP movie is coming up 18 days from now and I'm pretty excited for it. The only issue is I feel a bit uncomfortable walking up to one of my parents and saying, "I want you to take me to see the new My little Pony movie!"  It just feels like a very weird thing to do that I'll most likely get a lot of awkward questions and strange looks from one of them. Now, I've been into MLP ever since the beginning of season 2, but Ive manged to keep my brony status well hidden (I think) from them ever since. Although, I do have this poster hanging on my wall that may give off some hints, but I doubt they know where it's from, as they don't ask. Here's the poster (light blood warning): https://i.imgur.com/kPWYqYB.jpg?1  I somehow get the feeling they probably do know I'm into this stuff but again, they do not ask, possibly to prevent any potential drama.

I also have two MLP t-shirts as well but none of them ever asked, "Hey, what's that shirt supposed to be from?!". I assume they don't want to start up an odd conversation about ponies, but I digress.

I have a learners permit, but own no car from myself,  I'm only 19, and according to Florida law, I can't drive alone without a 21 year old passenger in the front seat.

I may just be making a mountain out of a molehill, but if there's anyone with advice on how to approach this situation, that'd be great.

2. If you think they'd be okay with it, just tell them. If not, don't.

I glanced at your profile and you're an adult, so you don't need their permission to do stuff, just a notice at most. You don't even have to mention you're seeing the MLP movie. You can just say that you're going to a movie and if they ask which one, you can say Blade Runner since that's coming out the same day.
 

As for the driving thing, as someone who is your age and also has no license, I usually just use Uber to get around if there's no one to drive me to say work for example. Depending how far you are from your local cinema, you can download Uber and try. Just note that it can be pricey depending on the distance.

Is MLP really that big of an issue? Seriously.. I mean I get it is a cartoon aimed at kids and such... so I can understand there is some stigma attached to it for many... but why do you have to make it sound like a sex change or a religious conversion or some such? It is a cartoon show, nothing more. Do you HAVE to announce it to go see it? If you wanted to go see Blade Runner, Lego Ninjago or Justice league, would you have to announce those as well? I am not trying to be difficult here, but seriously, the more you stop treating it like some dark shameful thing, the less it becomes one. You are 19.. just say you want to go see a movie... if they ask which one, be honest and say the MLP movie. If you are questioned... be honest... it looks like a fun movie and you want to see it. If your parents really are the sort of people who would freak out over a cartoon show, then there is nothing anyone can really do or say to help you.... you'll have to be honest or hide it as you see fit. But I seriously think half the people who go through this situation just put unnecessary stigma upon themselves over something as inconsequential as a cartoon show. It is a 90 minute film.. not a life choice.

If it is that nerve racking, relax, take the bus and don't worry about it.

After reading your response, It made me realize I was just blowing things out of proportions, f#%@ it, I'll just flat out tell em' I want see the movie, I don't care if they think different of me in one way or another anymore. Thank you for the rational advice to my irrational "dilemma".   If any newcomers to this post reads this, you don't need to comment, I get the point.

Can't you just tell them you're going to the movies? If they asked, you could just tell them about a different movie if you're really embarrassed about it. Or maybe you could go on bus to the cinema if you can't drive there without them?

If you absolutely want to tell them, I don't think it's that big of a deal. Just say that you like the show. Accentuate that you think it's a lot better than the previous generations and that it's one of the few animated movies coming out with 2D animation. They might tease you a bit, but if they're reasonable, they shouldn't have any major issue with it. Really it's no worse than you going to see Frozen or Moana or any DIsney movie.

Eh, my dad is completely cool with me watching the MLP movie

He's a really chill guy (he's almost 70 ) and he respects what I love <3

 

I know a friend of mine wants to see the MLP movie with me, but he seems to be quite busy as of late...

The question I wanna know is: How many bronies are gonna turn up to see the MLP movie?

What I would do, I'd secretly "fib" to my mother and tell her that I'm seeing the Lego Ninjago Movie before purchasing a ticket to this movie. It works for me since I've been over 18 for almost two years when the show even first came out.

Update: Just saw the movie and it was fucking awesome; I especially liked the song "One Small Thing". I plan on seeing the movie again, this time with a friend.
