spoiler Storm King

Watching the movie I found one scene strange. In the MLP franchise villains are just reformed or they try to reform. Correct me if i'm wrong but it seems that the storm king was the first onscreen death of MLP:FIM. This just seems out of the ordinary for Hasbro to do, turning a character to stone then shattering them.

I'm not complaining as I did enjoy the movie, but just want to know if anyone else felt like that scene was out of place for a MLP movie?

I mean if you don't count the comics, than King Sombra also died.

Related image.

Because let's face it, this was totally an on screen death.

But besides that, I was also a bit surprised to see the Storm King's statue shatter.  By MLP standards that was actually kinda hardcore.

Don't forget King Sombra. I think he just flat-out died at the The Crystal Empire.

I'm not really against it killing off the Storm King. Tempest already fulfilled the role of a redeemable villain. It would have been too schmaltzy and unbelievable to redeem all of the bad guys. I don't think it's inappropriate for a villain to die in a children's movies since it happens all the time and I think most kids are pretty accustomed to it. They'll have to be if they've ever watched a Disney film.

I do like how the show takes an optimistic perspective towards villains and offers almost everybody a second chance. But it won't work for everybody because, as much as I hate to say it, some people just won't change. I'm glad there that there are exception were a character doesn't change. It makes each redemption much more meaningful.

During the credits, Storm King was shown to be alive and moving his eyes.

Well, the canonicity of such gag is quite questionable at best  . Still, glad to see ponies didn't shied about (possibly) killing the big bad

Actually. I'm super happy they used there 1 exception...

One Exception?

Ya PG Kids movies are generally given one exception on killing people off on screen. Some times more then one. (Think Lionking)

It gets a bit of wiggle room if there is no body and you don't actually see the death.

But as many people have pointed out.... Sombra also dies. (Unless you count comics, and we don't)

-

But it should also be noted that.. no most villains don't get redemption....

Most Antagonists do.

Few of the Antagonists are strait out Villains.

Trek. (Who does not get Redemption)
Sombra. (Same)
Queen Cheeselegs. (Not let, but I expect that in season eight)

but most of the other Antagonists where just jerks and or had to learn something.

Starlight and Discord are kind of exceptions. But I argue that even Discord was more just a character acting on his nature with no regard for anypony else. (He needed to learn something)
