Did you think "Open up your eyes" was probably the best song from the movie?

easily the best song from the movie ^-^ it was dramatic, powerful, desperate and sad all at the same time. i wish more movies could achieve what this movie did with just one song.

Actually, for me, it was “Time to Be Awesome” and then “I’m the Friend You Need” and then “Open up your eyes”. Maybe I should listen to it again.

I did really like it, and I do agree it is certainly the most recognizable; however, I like time to be awesome more mainly because of the mood.

I would say the same. Open up your eyes is an important song to the plot, due to it explaining Tempest's backstory, but doesn't have the upbeat strength of time to be awesome, or the core pony values of we got this. Instead, it is something to be overcome, a statement of what was, not what will be.

Based on how much praise I've seen Open Up Your Eyes getting, I suppose I'm in the minority that didn't particularly think it was that great. I don't think it was bad, not at all. But I just prefer the happier, bouncier music.

Would it be too far out there to say that One Small Thing was my favorite? (Sorry Dashie. Time to Be Awesome was a close second)

I think it was the best, at least in the thematic sense. A few other songs were great, but they felt kind of forced in the narrative which took me out of the experience, while Open Your Eyes expanded on the story and gave Tempest a backstory.

It is a great villain song. Truthfully I liked a lot of the songs of the movie.

Except Sia's.

I didn't mind Sia's but it was a gimmick - it was tacked onto the end of the movie as an afterthought (stretching into the credits, in fact) and I would have preferred Coloratura.

I thought her whole character is a gimmick just used to add unnecessary name value.

Yup, and Coloratura is already an established character, plus Lena herself is a self-acknowledged pegasister :)

Open Up Your Eyes did a really good job of capturing all the complex emotions of Tempest; covering where she came from, where she's headed and why. So much pain, even after all the years, just built up and poured into the song. It brought me to tears, and that doesn't happen often. It's easily the best song in the movie and one of the best the show ever produced.
