technology Are We In The Dark Age Of Smart Phone Design?

If I ever own a smart phone, it will be some kind of Raspberry Pi or similar DIY project like the one I linked above, but put into the housing of one of the old "Brick" cell phones from the 1980's that look like this:

but with the keypad replaced by a touch-screen.

Batteries are unchanged. Phones designed towards being thrown away after 2-5 years. More and more completely useless apps that only drain battery. "Updates" that pretty much just removes useful features and limits your phone more. Some of the newest iterations/designs pretty much looks like their screens are MADE to break so you will have to get one, force you to be a consumer through poor durability design. It is arguably just exploitation of the consumer at this point.
