movies/tv First Movie That Disappointed You?

What was the earliest movie you remember being hyped and excited for, yet felt underwhelmed and disappointed in when you finally did watch it?

For me, it was the 1998 theatrical remake of Lost In Space.  I was expecting an action packed cross between Star Trek and Speed.

This trailer had me hyped as a kid.

What I got was a stop/ start mess of shiny CGI action set pieces, some soap opera relationship BS, and a convoluted time travel story that seemed to be made up as it went.

Your turn.

I'm going to get chastised  for this... but Wonder Woman. I'm sorry, but I'm just taken aback at how much people praised this movie. I'm not going to criticize you if you like this movie... but I'm sorry, I can barely watch it for these reasons:

  • Gal Gadot is not a very good actor.
  • Ridiculously inaccurate Greek mythology.
  • The major British soldiers were just stereotypes.
  • I don't recall the other Central Powers aside from the Ottomans being mentioned. Once. I'm not even sure if the other Allied powers were mentioned (aside from France)!
  • The Dr. Poison character and that German general are among the most God-awful antagonists I've ever seen in a movie that's taking itself seriously. Hollywood Germany at its finest!
  • Horrid CGI and excessive use of slow motion.

Again, I'm not going to hate on you if you enjoy this movie... but I just can't stand it.

Starship Troopers.

I had read the book years before the film came out, and I was pretty hyped when I found out there was a film being made of it.  It did not live up to my expectations.  Sure, the film is entertaining enough in its own right, it's just a very poor version of a story I really enjoy reading.  It's more like a parody of the book than a serious attempt at an adaptation (which I'm led to believe may actually have been the intention).  The Mobile Infantry in the book were the original inspiration for Warhammer 40K's Space Marines, and this is the preconception I entered the cinema with, only to be somewhat disappointed.

What a coincidence! I think I'm watching the Nostalgia critic's review on it that just came out on Channel Awesome right at this very moment. Hopefully it's from the correct year.

I was gonna come in here and say Wonder Woman too but I see you have done a pretty good job of explaining my reasons.

It isn’t as bad as some other DC movies like Suicide Squad or Batman v Superman but it’s really not that much better...

Pokemon the First Movie, even as a kid I thought it was a real dumpster fire. Apart from Mewtwo being badass I hated everything about it, especially the bit where they were whining about fighting(in a cartoon adaptation of a game series revolving around fighting monsters) and the part where they all cried after Ash turned to stone and brought him back to life, it was stupid then and it's even worse now

Generally I'm usually satisfied with movies I've seen in theaters so that was the last one for a while until the Last Jedi came out and sucked donkey dick

Uh hm that's a question for sure. Probably Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull just because that was one of the earliest films i saw in theaters and really liked the other Indiana Jones films i had seen previously but this one just seemed incredibly boring and a whole lot of going in circles. but i haven't seen it in 10 years so my memory might be fuzzy

"The Secret of NIMH 2: Timmy to the Rescue". Oh, did that ever stink! I doubt the people that made it ever saw the WONDERFUL original! I loved "The Secret of NIMH" as a kid, and played it over and over. I happily bought the sequel when it came out.  What a waste of money! It may not be the first movie to disappoint me, but as an insult to a childhood favorite, I include it here!

The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi. I can't say these are the first movies to disappoint me, but they're probably the ones that hurt the most.

Some people may not like the prequels but at least they were George Lucas' prequels, so for better or worse they were authentic and no one could say 'this isn't Star Wars.' They were created by George himself and not a self-proclaimed fanboy who knows nothing but how to exploit the work of others (and do it badly).

The first movie that disappointed me was Dragonball Evolution. I remember watching and loving the Dragon Ball Z anime when I was younger. When I heard that there was going to be a live action movie, I was really excited to see the movie. When I went to see the movie, I felt that it was a pretty disappointing movie, in my opinion. There were a lot of characters from the anime that weren't in the live action movie. There were also some parts that didn't really make a lot of sense.
