So many threads for music genres, and not one for classical music? Blasphemous!

Post your favorites! Discuss! I am quite confident that this thread will get at least a good amount of visitors, cause everyone loves classical music. And if you don't:

That'll get you started!

(I'm very enthusiastic about this. Come share!)

Sorry to burst your bubble, but I believe there is already a classical music thread.

I really hope not, I just triple-checked the search bar. If there is though, and I fail badly at searching, shame on me. :(

EDIT: I do fail at searching, could a mod shut this down please? Thanks. And sorry......

Why lock, when we can simply merge it all together, right? ^^

And while I'm here, have some Ludovico Eunaudi.

Not truly, "classical" but it is orchestral and mimics the classical feel. It is to give atmosphere and somber remembrance for those who fought and died during the Battle of Stalingrad. This whole entire OST is filled with beautiful music, sadly, I lack $1.99 in iTunes to purchase the album..!

A bit more intense, this 'Red Fortress' symbolizes the impenetrable nature of the ruined city of Stalingrad in which the Soviet Army holds out against the German Wehrmacht.

My favorites are several pieces from the Organ Repetoire of Johann Sebastien Bach, such as BWV 566 Prelude & Toccata, and 582 Passacaglia & Fugue.

But if I was forced to link a grand epic to this thread, I'd have to link Arvo Part's Te Deum.

Te Deum is three parts and 30 minutes long, written for chamber orchestra, male and female choir, wind harp and pipe organ. It is somewhat minimalist in nature and reverberates along the lines of the Gregorian chanting music from the 10th Century that so heavily inspired Part through the 1970s.

This topic really needs to be kept alive. Classical music just doesn't get the appreciation it deserves these days. =(

Much like Renaissance choral music, I think that style is very much an acquired taste. However, I've really come to appreciate it. Probably because it has so many woodwinds (particularly oboe and English horn). Menuet is my favorite of the movements. I have a recording of it (Menuet) played by London Symphony Orchestra and it is more beautiful than this performance IMO, but I still prefer this recording over the other ones that can be found on YouTube.

For my second piece.. More oboe!

Baroque oboe. <3

I've been listening to Karen Marie Garrett's 'It's About the Rose' album and came to a realization of how excellent her musics are for providing a calming atmosphere to help my overworked nerves and easing down my stress.

Do you guys have any recommendations for something quite similar to these types of music? Something that's not too synthetic and not too fast paced.

You betcha I'm a fan of Classical Music! Of course, it's actually kind of sad that most of it gets its fame (and its marketing) from the composer rather than the artist as is common in popular music, which I think partially explains, aside from the obvious constraints of time on most radio stations, why classical music is seen as something of the past and not "hip".

That being said, I'm most fond of Berg, Gershwin, Wagner, Beethoven, Ligeti, and Mahler.

Mmm, do I so love this piece. In my opinion, It's better than Moonlight Sonata, it just seems more regal and mysterious. I hope this wasn't already used. :P And, this thread needs to get back in action.
