Name a contribution that your state/country has provided

So, as the title goes, what has your state/country provided that contributed to the world? It can be something historical, factual, or something humorous.

With me, being from Virginia, my state's greatest contribution is Lamb of God. Being from Richmond, they are one of my favorite bands of all time and one of the pioneers of new American metal.

Aside from having one of the fastest growing cities, Arizona provides copper, and heatstroke to tourists who don't realize summer in Arizona is literally hell on earth. Oh and a national park every American has heard of.

Well, specifically one that applies to me. Since I enlisted into the Army in Texas, I'm qualified for the Hazlewood Act, which gives me, my (future) spouse, and my (future) children up to 150 hours of tuition exemption for most colleges in the state. Which is pretty darn nice, actually, since it stacks with my GI bill that I got for enlisting in the first place.

Let's see, Minnesota was where F. Scott Fitzgerald was born in 1896, and he wrote The Great Gatsby, currently my all-time favorite book and an American Classic :D

Oklahoma contributed um... uh... well... to Country music? Yuck. We're better of without that and Oklahoma altogether, to be honest.

I suppose David Gates of the band 'Bread' - one of my top favorite Soft Rock groups - came from the state, and that's neat. I've never really listened to his solo work, though.
