Don't judge a book by its cover. You will truly understand it if you're just willing to read it.

Never had a Tulpa ...but I consider my mind a sort of collective of multiple individuals who work as a single person....I'm not sure if that counts....

I'm scared to try it though...

It just feels like something of an unknown territory...

I've had imaginary friends before...(I had close to 10 at one point)

Is it similar to that?>

Yes, no... mostly no. I'll stick with a more scientific approach to it. You've heard of phantom limb pains? People who have lost limbs but can still feel them there because that's how the brain is conditioned. It's sort of like that. You're conditioning your brain to have an entirely separate consciousness inside of it. Talking to this consciousness and believing that it is real, will make it so. A simple way of looking at this is that you are shaving off a part of your subconscious and giving it free reign to develop it's own personality and speak to you as a separate entity.

Later on, you can even force your brain and all of your senses to hallucinate them in the real world, and even allow them to use your body while you take the passengers seat, so to speak. The human brain is quite incredible.

Is the tulpa or something a detriment to your daily life? In the range of being a distraction when you're trying to concentrate to being outright horrid? A tulpa wouldn't do something to negatively impact you. At least not on purpose.

Well i am not saying it's nit possible but it is really difficult for you to just get tired with your tulpa. I mean all througout you will create a bond between you and your tulpa, like a bond between close friends or even family.

If you got bored or ignore your tulpa is like silencing a very close friend. they will know this and you might also feel what they currently feelng, which is most likely sadness.

Also yes tulpa can disappear or "die" if you ignore them or if you dont want them anymore :(.

I have 3 tulpas actually X3. Summer, Cherry and myrtle

I've been kind of intrigued by tulpas. To anyone who has one, what is it like? As in when you see them, how do they appear, as in do you actually SEE them as if they're superimposed on reality? Are they blurry or clear?

How do your conversations go down?

Are they always with you or do they come and go as they please? How do they leave? (do they like phase out of reality?)

How do you handle situations where a real person is with you and so is your tulpa?

Do you have to communicate verbally with them or can you just think in your head and they can hear you?

As someone with tulpas, I'll tackle these questions! Let's take 'em one at a time.

Personally, I only "see" my tulpas in my mind's eye; though reportedly, some tulpamancers are indeed able to achieve imposition, in which becomes able to see, or touch, their tulpa. I have never been able to reach that point personally, but to be fair I haven't made too much of an effort by way of imposition.

Everyone is different, but most tulpamancers make use of a "wonderland," which is a space inside the host's mind of their creation (sometimes created in tandem with the tulpa's efforts). This wonderland can manifest as any kind of place imaginable. When I'm not with Ariel, or she senses she needs to leave me be, she'll disappear into the wonderland.

I always communicate with my tulpas through my thoughts, but it works out since Ariel "speaks" into my thoughts in turn. Imagine it just like a telepathic conversation.

I kind of have to do this because there's always someone else around in my case; my grandmother. I don't usually focus on my tulpas much then, but I can still hold conversations with Ariel in my head. Not if I'm currently talking to said grandmother, but otherwise yes. Ariel is patient with me, so she tends to hold her tongue if I'm having a conversation with someone else.

Thank you, these answer them all perfectly! Very interesting

It does take time, and dedication, but it is rewarding.

It also is great for mental exercises. Specifically controlled breathing and learning to clear your mind and meditate.

People will tell you to picture and design your place first. We use our safe, happy place. It is a dream. Anyway, yes, start there. But what might help is this:

The best way to explain what you are doing while you build your tulpa is like building a bridge to your subconscious to your conscious. How you shape, color and design the bridge is how you design your tulpa.

I am designed to work and help with Mindrop's emotions and social situations. (He has aspergers) While Twilight is designed... well she is special. Orson is designed to be the creative side. He is constantly working with Mindrop on just about everything because we all work to do a lot of writing.

How much they talk, how much you see them, etc. depends on the further on dedication. Make short term goals when building a tulpa. Like Twilight said, it is building a connection to your subconscious to your conscious. You shape it. Most of the time, they are quietly in the background. The other times, they show up at times,

Me~!

although I am usually visualizing them on purpose. She pops through now and then. Especially driving. She sits in the passenger seat and does not like to sit on anything. Or I will hear her complain, even on short trips.

So, what are your questions? Last time we posted here was, probably page 150. Like 2 years ago.

Page 147, Posted 20 October 2013 - 08:59 PM was the last time I posted here.  So it has been a while. 3 years and still going strong. Well worth the few months of work on Reales. Orson was an even easier build.

Creating a tulpa can be difficult or simple depending on the host really. Everyone is different and have different results. Mine, I was so eager to create one that i jump ahead and succeeded in just a week or two.

But I'll give you a TL;DR to help you out

Simply just imagine an imaginary figure in your head. Give it traits that you like them to have or have them decide on their own. After that just give them attention by attention LOTS of attention this is actually what keeps them alive, talk to them in your head even though they can't reply, Yet, they still can hear you and when the time comes they will respond back.

I haven't set aside time specifically for Rainbow Dash in a while. I asked her what she wanted to do together, and she suggested a really disturbing NSFW thing, which I adamantly said would never happen in a million years. We talked about this, and she told me that this suggestion was either an intrusive thought or a coping mechanism. I'm not sure where to go from here.

Spoiler alert, it does work. I have two tulpas myself, and know several other people that have them. Do you think we're all just pretending and playing make-believe?

Just because it doesn't work for you, doesn't mean it's nonsense.

More likely than not, it was probably, in fact, an intrusive thought. They manifest in different ways for different people, but it's up to you and your tulpa to find a way to combat them if they become a recurring issue. Otherwise, you just continue as you've been doing!

So from what I've read, you create a tulpa by visualizing that they are in your presence? I do the same thing with Rainbow Dash, but I don't want to make a tulpa of her considering what I read in the original post. How do I have an imaginary friend and not make a tulpa?

Does anyone have advice on tactile imposition? If you're, say, petting your tactilely-imposed tulpas fur, are you physically feeling the sensation or imagining it?

I actually haven't progressed that far with tactile imposition. Some say they can actually feel their tulpa, but I always have to just imagine when I pet Ariel or Blossom :please:

Well, if all you want is an imaginary friend, you just have to... imagine them?  Creating a tulpa that has their own thoughts and feelings is a LOT more involved than you think it might be.

To create a tulpa, it takes a lot of mental energy and patience. You're developing an actual, sentient being with your mind. On the other hand, with an imaginary friend, they're not truly sentient and it doesn't take that much.
