I thought that I had already posted here. Apparently not.

 

My current username, Frith is Magik, was not particularly inspired. When I joined the forum I didn't have much of an online presence, which meant no previous usernames to take inspiration from. I didn't want to use my gamertag, thus the brainstorming began. I considered a few different sources of inspiration, but nothing from a single source stood out, so I combined ideas.

 

Friþ is a word with Germanic and Scandinavian roots. The concept no longer exists in modern English, but is sometimes used in the Asatru community. It essentially refers to peace, stability, and social relationships. It can refer to mere allies or to the bond shared with close friends. Magic generally refers to stage magic, Hollywood special effects, or events that cannot be explained. Magik (sometimes spelled magick) is a spelling used mainly in the Pagan community to distinguish spells and rituals from smoke-and-mirrors magic. Frith is Magik is essentially just "Friendship is Magic" written in a way that pays homage to my personal path. It isn't the most subtle piece of wordplay, but it sums up multiple ideas nicely. 

So it has nothing to do with Richard Adams' book "Watership Down"? Huh. How about that. Actually, thinking about it, the "god" in that book was probably named Frith as a reference to the older meaning you explain about here, so there is a tie after all.

 

As for my latest username, the idea for it started back when I was younger. I used to read those "Choose your own adventure" type game books, in particular the series by Joe Dever called "Lone Wolf". The world the game is set in features a group of magical-warrior-priests, the Kai, who are wiped out by these bad guys called the Darklords. Only one lowly initiate survives, Silent Wolf, having being sent out to gather firewood as punishment for not listening during lessons. Realizing he is the last of his kind, he takes the name Lone Wolf, and sets off to get revenge, destroy the Darklords and rebuild his order. After 20 books, he succeeds, and the series has a sort of reboot, where you start playing as one of the new Kai warriors, which you get to name. Since the original founder was called Sun Eagle, I named my new character Sun Fox, since I like foxes and wolves, but using Sun Wolf would be too similar to Lone Wolf. Somewhere along the way, it changed to SolarFox, which is pretty much the same idea, only it sounds better when you say it. So SolarFox is what I usually use as my online name.

My username is the name of my great grandfather. He was from Poland and fled to America shortly before WWII. I thought that was a cool name, and there's this journal he kept that I have a copy of now that is kinda inspiring to me as a writer. He didn't really do anything to be famous or memorable, he was just a cool guy. PS: He died about 6 years ago.

My username was created not only based on desiring a good pony sounding name (cause why not), but it is also based on my real full name, their individual meanings combined.

 

First name = "Brave Power/Strong Leader", Middle name = "Resolute Protector", and my Last name = "Home Protector".

 

Combined together after much thought (and some inspirational exploring in Skyrim, firstly hanging out in an iron mine and how someone in it described iron - secondly how I am glued to playing with shield/heavy armour), I came up with "Iron Shield" as my username (more than one place), pony name and it's also a part of my name for my main Skyrim character, the Nord hero, sword and shield wielding Richard Iron-Shield. I actually cherish it as a lot of thought and meaning was put into it, and it's 10 times better than something like "Prince Thorn" (result of putting my name in a pony name generator). It's also fitting because it reflects my character as I as a person am strong, steadfast, faithful and protective.

It's rather simple, actually. I was entering my Xbox Live username only to be disheartened to find it had already been taken. It gave me a list of variations, none of which I liked as they were all unoriginal add numbers or x's variations that lacked creativity. All except for one. The name AwakeOrangutan (note the missing g) appeared at the very bottom of the list. It was in no way related to what I entered but it was original and whimsical so I chose it. The extra g comes from me misspelling it the first time I manually entered it in somewhere. I probably got confused with the drink mix Tang, whose mascot was an orangutan. I have since used it most everywhere else because it's simpler to keep things uniform between sites and almost always available. Almost because YouTube already had one (who thinks of these things?!) so I had to go with TheAwakeOrangutang to differentiate between me and all those other posers.

I was mainly "converted," into the show by Discord's performance, as a result I've always enjoyed the very rare yet still awesome chaotic aspects of MLP FiM.

 

I was just thinking to myself before joining of a username, something representing chaos in one way or the other, but also a possible name an actual pony could have.

 

Decided on "Flash of Shadow," straight away, then shortened it to Shadow Flash.

 

Problem was, one of my friends was already going to take that name (Not sure if he has yet or not.) Being the "nice," guy I am I decided on what I have now.
