gaming Favorite Sonic the Hedgehog Games

So, lately I have been feeling a bit nostalgic for the "blue blur." It's been awhile since I played a Sonic game...okay maybe not that long ago as I did play Sonic Mania back in 2017. Prior to that I had not played a new Sonic game since Sonic Adventure 2 on the Dreamcast. I know the series has definitely had it's ups and downs(probably more downs), but in your opinion, what are some of your favorite Sonic games out there?

My favorite game and inspiration is Sonic 3 & Knuckles. There has been a lot of news regarding Michael Jackson's involvement in Sonic 3, and there was a Sonic 3 prototype release a few months ago that was interesting.

I am also very inspired by the art of the Gameboy Advance game "Sonic Advance 2", but many people think it is just a hod right to win game, or too many bottomless pits (and I agree with that).

All classic Sonic games for the Sega Genesis are very high quality platform games, good music, and adding Sonic CD to that mix, it is the games I recommend. This was the days before countless characters were added.

@joanro If you are interested in how thew original Sonic games worked, rather than just playing them, you must try out the debug mode codes  for the classic games. Begin with the first game, and play through it with debug, clicking out enemies and platforms and other stuff, see how they work, then move on to the next. The programmer, Yuji Naka, left the debug mode codes in the final games, instead of removing them like most other games do. It is inspiration to see how a game works. I saw it as a kid, and I am a game programmer today because of it!

Sonic Mania for 2D and Sonic Generations for 3D. Some of my other favourites are Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic Colours and Sonic Advance 3.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

The Mega Drive games are my favorites, partially for nostalgic reasons. Sonic 2 is the one that had the biggest impact on me (being one of the first games I ever played), but ignoring that, I probably enjoyed Sonic & Knuckles the most.

Out of the later games, Sonic Adventure 2: Battle is my favorite – again nostalgia plays a big role, as it was my first 3D platformer. :D

GG version of Sonic 1 are also very important to me

Very important to me too! The music composer to that game, Yuzo Koshiro, is one of the best there is! His music from the Street of Rage/Bare Knuckle games is amazing!

I absolutely love Sonic CD. I have some weird connection to that game that is kinda hard to explain. I love the time travel aspect of it and how the game shows you the consequences of just speed running thru it. Failing to destroy the robot generators in the past or gathering all the Time Stones will result in bad futures for each zone and a bad ending where Sonic's hard work was for nothing. Both the US and Japan soundtracks are awesome. My only complaint is the ridiculously easy boss battles, which is kinda a shame because Robotnik is portrayed as a legit threat to Little Planet. The special stages are cool but can be very difficult if it's your first time.

Second favorite Sonic game is Sonic 2.  Great final boss (both Robotnik and mechanized Sonic) and great soundtrack. I also love the mystery behind this game as there were supposed to be additional levels but were later scrapped. Hidden Palace Zone comes to mind. You can have all sorts of fun with a Game Genie in Sonic 2.

I also enjoy Sonic 1 and Sonic 3 & Knuckles. With the exception of Sonic 1 and CD, I'm generally terrible at the special stages. :P

Well I grew up with the more modern Sonic games and I became pretty attached to them, though I will respect the older Sonic games as being fun as well. :adorkable:

Probably my favorite one would be Sonic Colors with Sonic Lost World (Okay look, I just really like how colorful it is) coming in second. Some other fun ones would be Sonic Mania, Sonic 3, and Sonic Team Racing.
