Pegasisters seems to be the sorta defacto term for female members of the fandom. I've seen some say they dislike the term and just go with brony regardless of gender, but I think pegasister has a nice ring to it in its own way.

Don't know them, but they sound like cool strong female figures! Just like (Most) Girls! Except my ex.

I have many brony friends who are women and been to conventions and there are women there and of course there are many online and on this website. I mean there are also many active women in the fanbase who do art, voice acting, fanfic writers, etc.

It seems like you may be new to the website so maybe you're also new to the show/fandom so haven't seen much of what's on youtube or etc. but yes many female/women fans of the show.

So yea.

Pegasister was a word invented as some point, idk if it was women who wanted a term for women or if it was was men trying to be clever and make a name for them, most women I know go by brony and only ever heard a few say pegasister but have called themselves bronies many times before. I say brony is def. the better overall term. The community word, no need for pegasister imo. But peeps can go by what they want.

Well, the main target audience for MLP had always been young girls. So it would be natural to see older female fans of the show. Let's say that this little girl loves MLP (Generation 3, 2002), the years go by, now it's 2010, and generation 4 just premired. The little girl is now a teen, and has renewed her love for MLP with this show.

It's common for female fans to dislike the term "pegasister," so many refer to themselves as bronies. I'm fine with girls calling themselves bronies. After all, "pegasister" is such a lame term.

Don't quote me on this, but I think the "Brony Census," as of around 2015, found about a quarter of older fans are women or teenage girls. That percentage was said to have risen quite a bit from earlier years.

Amusingly, almost everyone I've seen in public with an mlp shirt has been a little girl (and one 30+ yr old woman with a 1st gen. shirt). The most amusing was probably the teenage girl who looked as though she was wearing a Pinkie Pie scalp on her head  I have seen a small number of male bronies in public, for the record.

I'm under the impression, from what I've noticed, that a higher percentage of the artists and fanfic writers are women than the brony population. In general, not just with mlp, most fanfic writers are women (and possibly most artists too?)

Don;t have much knowledge on that to say anything conclusively.

Back in the day, we were called pegasisters but I don't think the name ever stick. There are a lot of them, specially in the forums (although most fans are still male).

Lol a female fan? So they do exist!

There are a few here yes.

But let's say MLP is a show for little girls to begin with. Of course there will be a fanbase of girls liking MLP as well.

On the other hand, we have a huge group of older males liking MLP as well, and they managed to get really famous back in the day by calling themselves "Brony" or "Bronies" (plural).

According to the Brony Documentary from 2013, the girl fanbase didn't like how Bronies got all the spotlight, so they dropped in and called themselves Pegasisters. The Documentary was such a success that most of the fans didn't see themselves as exclusive as before, and the Bronies kinda faded away after that. Give or take Twilight *spoiler* situation, and a Hasbro C&D against one of the biggest fan-creations at the time called Fighting Is Magic.

Yes, and it was so grrrr. *trying to keep my composure*

John de Lancie directed it, and promised not to focus on the special case Brones, but I disagreed when I watched it. The most unique cases of Brones you have ever seen are featured.

I've never called myself a pegasister though, and haven't used brony to describe myself in years. I just call myself a fan that likes the show a lot and the fanworks~

I haven't even called myself a Brony. I think i am more of a Closet Brony or just regular MLP fan.

If you know the history of Bronies, you know that the term was made up on 4chan. Just knowing that alone, makes me wanna walk away :awwthanks:

@Peterthenonbrony Another female fan here, my dude. We’re actually very common.

Brony is able to be used as a gender neutral term, but I prefer pegasister. B)

Just sticking in another hoof on the distaff side. There are actually quite a few female members here; you’d be surprised.

Agreed. Pegasister is a great title! I love it! I never go by Brony unless somepony calls me that by accident.

I think it has too much pegasus in it, instead of pony. I feel brony is good to represent anyone, even female (you can be a bro, like you can be called Mr or Sir.... eh.... I don't actually know what the rules are). Sadly I cannot come up with anything better, so pegasister it is
