What are your rules on travel?

Leave any unnecessary cash cards/credit cards behind and only bring important stuff

Fill the car up the day before

Try to avoid toll roads to save money

Avoid speedtraps at all costs

Always try to look for direct flights

Never settle for an exit row on a plane

Remember to take a stretch break on long roadtrips

Takes breaks, if a trip require multiple days, take a night at a rest stop

Never take a chance if you're worried about gas. Never wait until it's nearing E. Even if you have a quarter tank, fill it up.

Prepare prepare prepare. Make sure you have money for food, gas and rest stops. Too many times I see people taking long trips only to need money for gas far away from home

Take what you need. Save room for something that might be important somewhere down the line.

Always be stressed. Yes, I hate traveling because of it. Stress combined with always looking over shoulder that I didn't forget anything, like every 10 seconds.

Jeric’s rules for fun based travel not involving work, visiting family, or cruising.

1) Plan ahead

2) Ignore all plans and be spontaneous

3) Only pull out the camera AFTER taking in the experience. Also when you want to catch friend being silly.

4) Try local cuisine

5) Try local non-touristy shopping

6) Air BnB over Hotels

Semi-serious… if flying keep an extra form of identification and credit/debit at your place of lodging, just in case you lose your wallet or it is lifted. Invest in a chain if you use a wallet

  1. Plan ahead, research the airlines and hotels and destinations and their reviews. They matter alot.
  2. Budget extra time and money for things, especially since the travel industry is still recovering from the pandemic and everything is chaotic.
  3. Bring what you are supposed to based on your destination and avoid bringing anything more.
  4. Do the touristy stuff in an area, but also find out what's recommended by locals.

Plan ahead and make reservations. While at the destination, play hard and don’t slow down until you’re ready to collapse from exhaustion. Keep as many details as possible out of the hands of others because they’ll always screw something up. Pack light, but bring lots of hand sanitizer and travel-sized Lysol.

Nopony mentioned about planning ahead? :jazz-hooves-please:

My rules:

- Always have several teabags. In some countries it's hard to find tea, sometimes it's just expensive especially in fancy places, but sometimes you just want to throw a tea party at night because of jet lag. Boiling water is accessible and free almost always.

- Always have a pin to change a sim card for local and spare feature phone for your home sim card to keep access to verification codes of your bank.

- Bring your medications with you. Nobody knows weak points of your body better than you. And if you suddenly get sick there may not be medications you got used to and medical help can be inaccessible or expensive (almost like tea). Painkillers and antibiotics are in the top of my list as well as theraflu bags.

- Study weather and climate of place where you go. Your clothes and shoes should handle min and max temperature you may face as well as humidity. Happened I got caught by winter and -30°C wearing only hoody, that wasn't a pleasure. Or staying in a place with week-long rain without a raincoat or umbrella and waterproof boots isn't the nicest thing.

Stay safe and enjoy your journeys. Sincerely, your adventure pony, Crypty. ^•^

If I’m going on wheels, I’d drive reasonable hours, not 10 or 12 . Also I’d eat in local restaurants, not chains I can eat anywhere else >_> (unless they have local exclusives :jazz-hooves-please:)

Have a way out  .

Dont feel rushed, meaning you didn’t set aside enough time.

Don’t spread yourself out too thin as far as planning goes (I.e., avoid 1 day trips where much more time should be devoted. Did you really get to know that place?).
