The guildgates are only there until I get another Sulfur Falls and Steam Vents (Which should be friday).

As for the event itself, it was ok. I came 2nd overall (4 rounds, 3 wins, 1 loss). The first game was a complete massacre. The guy was playing an Azorious themed deck which was mana flooded both times. It was simply a case of killing what few creatures he did play and attack with delvers and drake tokens. The second game was against a white/red human deck, which was a close one. The first game was only won because of a timely Bonfire (It killed all his creatures and then he didn't play anything bigger than a 1/1 token for the rest of the game). The second game against that deck was a bit more in my favour early on. It went: Turn 1 delver, turn 2 Goblin Electromancer, turn 3 Talrands Invocation. Basically after this point he didn't draw enough removal to deal with the drakes and they killed him.

The third round was against a Jund aggro deck (Not fun to play against). Both games were close, but it was Mizzium Mortars that were the key to winning. The last round was against Red/Black Zombies which destroyed me. Oh well, at least I wasn't smashed throughout the event.

BR zombies were initialy designed to destroy delver xD. Did you ever have to deal with a thragtusk? Also congrats on coming second.

There was a few in the Jund deck. But in the games against me only one was cast and it showed up a bit too late. It was already over by that time.

Okay so i am trying to build a new deck (to which the type will remain unnamed). I made a list of all the cards that I need and counted the number and it was 105. Which is okay because I usually use a bigger sized deck. I was really proud of it, and I put a lot of time into finding what cards would be really good in the deck. Then I researched the priced of each card and there were a couple that were extremely expensive but most of them were decently priced. Then I added up the total price of all the cards. $372.87. I don't know if anypony out there has ever made a more expensive deck but this is my most expensive. It is definitely going to take me awhile to get all the cards to construct it. But i am curious if there is anypony out there that has ever built a more expensive deck than the one i am building?

Have you ever heard of the vintage format? Try pricing some of those cards, some of the cards alone cost p to $1000. My friend made a standard legal deckw hich we calculated the cost was about $500, and it was 60 cards. ATM the deck i use for the 60 card highlander format is about $750. So don't feel bad about spending under $400 on a deck. especially if it's 45 cards more than a regualr deck.

A Legacy landbase can cost like $400 on it's own, depending on how many colors you're running.

Anyway, first Ravnica Draft tonight. Can't wait :D

The draft was M13, RTR, RTR for some stupid reason.

Anyway, I somehow got 3 Mogg Flunkies from the M13 packs, and got some pretty good Rakdos stuff from the RTR, so I went RBu (splashing blue for Mercurial Chemister and Teleportal).

Match one I crushed my opponent for 2-0. Second match, lost game 1 due to mana flooding. Game 2, I started out really fast and took him down to 4 before he managed to kill my dudes. Then I proceeded to draw things that I couldn't cast with the 3 lands I drew that entire game, so I lost 0-2.

Same thing happened in Match 3; lost first game pretty badly, and then lost game 2 by a hair.

Anyway, I got a consolation pack, and since it was basically free (because I paid for the draft with store credit), I decided to pack war with a friend. I lost, and my rare was a Hallowed Fountain.

Just generally a bad night, magic-wise :(. Only good thing was that I got some stuff I need for my Standard deck.

MTG in Steam is nice, but i don´t like the fact that i have to buy new decks within DLCs . If i have to pay that price i want to have not only cards from one edition, i want the cards from the old editions too. I played MTG on several tournaments. I wasn´t the winner of the tournament but it was funny while it lasted. I love to play a deck detroyer deck. Not exactly a millstone / mill deck but it was fun.

Eh, DotP is okay, but I'd never buy it if I can't make my own decks. I'd check out MTGO if I were you. It's basically just the actual card game, except on the computer. Buy, sell, trade, build decks, play in constructed and limited tournaments, and it has the majority of printed cards (though not all). IIRC, they get new sets a bit early as well.

Also, it has Mormir Basic :)

EDIT: made the poll better. 1st question is retaining all the answers from the old one, for some reason, though, so it is inaccurate :/

Have any pony heard of the game you can play with 3-4 players where you have a big zombie deck with lots of zombie tokens and a few zombie creatures and spells. And you play 3 against one (the players against the self playing zombie deck) and the zombie deck plays the top cards of it's deck one at a time playing the tokens for free but when it reaches a creature or spell it stops and all the zombies attack each turn if able.(they dont have haste unless it says so.) Because Im trying to make a zombie deck to play that. It will be with real decks. About 100 cards in the zombie deck.

Yes, the horde varient, i made a deck of it myself, the rules are cool, but the balancing of the game is a bit hard, to get full value i recomend using really casual decks and not attacking the horde, it's alot more fun that way. Also, game works great when played at night.

How do you bild the deck? I want one but I don't know how to make one. Can you post a link to a card list or just post a list? I have played the game once but I want to do it again.

I've barely played Horde, but it's great when you have themed decks for it. A Sniper has kill spells to take down big, threatening dudes, a medic to help people survive with damage prevention and life gain (we play with a rule that "you gain life" can be applied to any of your teammates), a fighter with plenty of dudes to fight off the horde and attack them when possible, and a support with stuff like pump to help the fighter, low level field wipe (pyroclasm, earthquake, stuff that can hit normal zombies but won't kill big dudes), and other stuff.

The player decks need to be relatively weak.

For the zombie deck, zombie lords, grave titan, the bigger pox effects (pox, death cloud where X=3-5 or something), zombie apocalypse, stuff like that. If it's still not hard enough, consider adding "minor spells", which don't stop the horde when flipped. You simply put them down, resolve them, then continue until you hit a major spell. For minor spells, edict effects, small amounts of life loss, smallpox, symmetrical discard and sac effects, things like that.

I know you generally stay away from targeted effects for the horde deck, but IMO some things that target a player still work if you choose a player at random. Things that target creatures get too annoying to do randomly, so those are still out.

I've heard of an Eldrazi spawn horde deck that would auto cast Eldrazi once a certain number of spawn were available to sacrifice. Deck was of spawn tokens, colored Eldrazi and other stuff, with a separate deck of the big, scary colorless Eldrazi. Flip tokens till you hit a spell, then flip the top card of the colorless deck. If there are enough spawn to cast it, do so. If Spawnsire is out, first check to see if he can use his {20} ability. If that ability resolves, the horde gets one each of the colorless non-legendary Eldrazi (cuz if he grabbed legends as well, that'd just be crazy :P).

If legendary Eldrazi hit graveyard, colorless and colored Eldrazi shuffle back into their respective decks, and obviously, spawn don't.

Never played this one, but it sounds nuts :)

you need about 55 zombie tokens, 5 giant zombie tokens, and then 40 other cards, everything i used was a zombie creature, it was great, grave titan is nice and scary, zombie apoclypse is hella scary especialy if you decide they come into play untapped. undead warcheif, cemetary reaper, just a few good ones here and there.

-snip-

Hardest one i've played is the Dragon horde, 5/5 flying dragons are scary in numbers. No idea how spike intends to become one of them xD

Dragons sounds horrible D:

Even worse than the time we used small dudes with abilities instead of tokens. Nothing like an enemy who gets like 5 2/2's with something like first strike, flying, shadow, etc every turn. Then a Signal Pest and a Hero of Bladehold get flipped in one turn and they're all 4/2's D:

Do you play where the horde has haste and vigilance?

We only play with haste, we've just decided it's not as fun to attack the horde, thus rendering vigilance uselss. Just a personal preference though, because otherwise things like serra angel or avenger can really just win by themselves.

But then... Sunburst Angel :P

But yeah, going pure defense is nice, though I kinda like it when you can go offensive if you want, but the horde is strong that it's a real gamble.

Oh jeez guys, I just threw down $60 for my Exalted deck. If I want any money for Equesria LA this needs to stop >__< I picked up another Sublime Archangel, I picked up three Isolated Chapels, I got two Rouge's Passages, and a Cathedral of War. This deck is so close to being completed. I just need two more Sublimes, one more Chapel, and three more Cathedral of Wars.

On a side note how does everyone find Exalted as a mechanic?

Exalted is great, but it doesn't have a lot of design room that wasn't already covered in Alara, so M13's Exalted was a bit bland. Except for Archangel, of course :)

I just happen to have 2 archangels that I could let go for $17 a piece, and/or some cards I want for standard.

Exalted is one of the first mechanics i tried to base a deck pruely around. It's a fine mechanic, it was much better in Alara because the creatures seemed to help each other in more ways then just +1/+1, however, exalted isn't really my playstyle anymore xD

Game Day, anybody?

Whenever there's a free tournament somewhere, I go through my cards and make a totally janky deck out of random stuff I have. I try to spend less than $10 cash or $15-$20 in trade max to make it vaguely playable. I also try to make sure it isn't too similar to any decks I've fone this with previously. If the event is free, I don't really care about winning or losing as long as it's fun.

In this case, I didn't really care about the top 8 promo either, so I went full Johnny and ran a 5-color defender deck I threw together (and traded for relevant stuff) in about 2 hours.

Lands: 22

2 Transguild Promenade

2 Golgari gate

2 Izzet gate

3 Azorius gate

3 Selesnya gate

3 Island

4 Forest

2 Mountain

1 Swamp

Defenders: 26

4 Axebane Guardian

3 Gatecreeper Vine

4 Lobber Crew

3 Haunted Guardian

3 Fog Bank

2 Ludevic's Test Subject

2 Guardians of Akrasa

3 Hover Barrier

2 Ogre Jailbreaker

Wincons: 5

2 Sands of Delirium

3 Devil's Play

Other:

2 Rootborn Defense

4 Unsummon

I know it's not the best it could be (and there is a pretty low limit on how good it can be anyway), but I like all how it all sort of fits together. Between Axebane and Gatecreeper, I've never had mana problems, with all the aggro in standard right now, matching someone's curve with walls is pretty effective at stalling for awhile. Axebane nets assloads of mana, making Sands a 4-5 turn kill, or powering up a Devil's Play to kill them off after Lobber pings, or to remove problem creatures. All that mana is also great for flipping a Test Subject quickly for a tertiary wincon.

Rootborn Defense is nice for surviving mass attacks from creature bigger than mine, or when removal get's aimed at an Axebane or Test Subject, and I run Unsummon over other removal for similar reasons, bouncing my own stuff if I need to.

Of course, I get shit all over by any deck with heavy removal, but hey, like I said, I wasn't trying to win. I have 3 promo Dryad Militants, so I'm happy with this.

Anyway, took it to 2 events, one with 3 rounds (went 1-2, would've been 2-1 and in top 8 if not for the luckiest damn Bonfire topdeck I've seen in awhile) and one with 4 rounds (2-2, but the second win was because my opponent dropped). Better than I thought, maybe because nobody was expecting to have to deal with defenders.dec :P

Still do!

Which reminds me! I need to work on some of my decks!

I usually go with Green solo or green with something else and if I just want to win I use my Sliver Deck. biggrin.png

I love my sliver deck. It has sliver queen, hart sliver, heartstone, and gemhide sliver to make a  infinite sliver combo! than magma slivers to pump them all up.

But then... Sunburst Angel tongue.png

But yeah, going pure defense is nice, though I kinda like it when you can go offensive if you want, but the horde is strong that it's a real gamble.

How do you decide which zombie blocks. Do all the zombies just attack at once. If they do that sometimes it is bad for the zombies because if you have big blockers than the zombies die every time they attack you. Also whats the point of having a big card with lots of power. The horde has no life total what happens if your attack goes through.

We'd either say the zombies don't block, or they block as many things as they can with one zombie each, starting with the creature that would deal the most damage (as of the declare blockers step) and going down from there. But usually, they just don't block.

When damage does get through, you mill cards off the hoard deck, usually 1 card per 2 damage (since the zombie tokens have 2 toughness), rounded down.

So what decks have everypony been playing lately? I myself have been using a chromatic lantern control deck (5 colours). I snagged the last few cards to finish it today (2 extra shocklands and a 4th lantern).

I just need a few more Ash Zealots and Mizzium Mortars to finish up my RDW deck. Luckily, most of the stuff in it is either common/uncommon, or I already have. Once I get home, I'll have access to all my cards so I can actually finish and use it :)
