Ever had power outages lately?

From where I live, I've had way too frequent power outages because either because of the persistent thunderstorms or they seem to purposely shut off the electricity for seemingly no apparent reason, which pisses me off a lot. Has this ever happened to you people when a power outages happen unexpectedly?

Few times, but always just for few minutes, and once for half a day. Nothing you can't survive with a good book though :3.

Do you have any idea what Pakistan is like? Any idea?

Let's see, 18-15 hours of scheduled power outages everyday, the frequent un-scheduled power outages that happen for about an hour at a time not to mention the fact that the government just keeps on making short-term solutions such as cheap rental power-plants that can barely produce 150 MW and only reduce the power outages by a little bit.

Hah! You people wouldn't last a minute here without melting!

When I used to live in the Midwest I had power outages all the freaking time! There were lots of thunder storms but the power even went out when it was nice and sunny. Everything was built like crap and nothing worked. Now that i live in a big city I never even think about power outages anymore, they just don't happen.

Power flickers and outages have become more frequent since Hurricane Katrina. An overly aggressive isolated thunderstorm can easily knock the power out for a few minutes. I have battery backup units on my living room tv, game pc, and other stuff.

As of late, we've not had any significant ones. Just short ones due to thunderstorms back in June.

I've never experienced any long lasting power outages, maybe 20 to 30 minutes at most. I'm nervous about the idea of one happening in winter though. I might be able to put on a warm coat, but the pipes freezing would be a serious problem.

Yeah, you don't wanna experience a power outage in winter. I've been there back in 2006. Week after Thanksgiving, we had a massive ice storm and lost power for the better part of 2 days.

We have power outages pretty frequently where I live, in upstate NY. NYSEG had to send out a letter informing us that they'd be cutting down some trees because a strong breeze would take out the power for hours at a time. 8')

It's rare to get a power outrages where I live. But when I do get it, its always at the wrong time like; cooking, during a shower, or watching my favorite tv show.

And worse,..while working on a paper and I didn't get to save it.

Not too often luckily. Even if we do get a power outage, it's usually only for a few minutes.

At first I rejected the zero, but that was because I simply didn't understand it. Now I do.

A couple of weeks ago, actually!  I don't really know what went on but the power was randomly cut in the afternoon and lasted until the next day, early in the morning.  The lights in the hallway were flickering a lot, it was pretty trippy walking through them and I scared a few people opening doors.  I was also doing my laundry around the time the power was cut...  I had to re-do my laundry the next day. :okiedokieloki:

In my neighborhood, I barely or never get power outages. But the last time I had one was about 7-8 years ago when it was stormy outside and it was also during a football game that my step dad was watching on TV. But what's funny is that the only devices that survived the power outage was my printer and the living room TV my step dad was watching.

We had a power outage back in October from about 6PM until 11:50PM one night, due to a windstorm giving off 70mph+ wind gusts. Most of town was without power, but by the time we went to drive out to get dinner, power was partially back in town. Had a hard time sleeping that night because the cat slept on my bed, due to it being in the high 30's and the cat not being able to take cold very well due to old age.

Duke Energy is a fun company to deal with when it comes to issues like this.

I think we used to have plenty, but things get better nowadays.

While yours did better, mine did not. Had a couple power outages this month, and it's because the electrical company clearly doesn't care for their residents due to their repeated incompetence and indifference. I'm starting to wish I moved to Finland and have a better life over there, even if I can't take my family with me.

Sure I'd go for America, but they're completely oblivious to their territory's current situation.
