Grimdark MLP Fanfics and Creepypasta

Cupcakes, in all honesty, I didn't find that bad. A bit messed up, but I've read so many short gory stories that I'm just used to that kind of stuff. Easily, the most scarring fanfic is Applejack's Applesauce.

Sweet Apple Massacre makes Cupcakes look like Care Bears. I couldn't stomach it while I took Cupcakes without much issues. I think Final Dreams of a Filly is pretty emotionaly scarring. SPOILER- basically, in it Scootaloo dies because while she slept a window openned up abd let freezing air into her room which killed her overnight. IIRC She had a choice of either the whole thing having just been a neardeath experience and living again, or going on to the afterlife and be ignorant of her death, but that leaves her actually dead... She essentially trapped herself in a Lotus Eater Machine (that's tv tropes language) which is more depressing than it seems. It's been a while since I read that one though so I may have forgotten a few details.

I've encountered plenty of disturbing fics from various other fandoms in the past. So there hasn't been anything I've seen created by the Herd that has given me mental scars. Although I never read Sweet Apple Massacre, and quite frankly I don't intend on doing so from what I've been told about it.

I refuse to read any of those horror fanfics. I don't wanna get scarred like you guys did... This show is so innocent and nice, I don't like that theres a bunch of horror stories and shit like that out there. But I guess it's just like Rule 34...

The one that messed with me the most is The Scootaloo Diaries. Not because it's crazy creepy or anything but it totally messed up my views on Cheerilee and when I had to write Cheerilee into one of my fics it was hard to make her act normal. Altogether a good story though.

Cupcakes wasn't that bad. I mean, it's pretty disgusting, but people overreact to it.

 

I can't say any fic really mentally "scarred" me. I've read about two grimdarks and I thought one of them (Rainbow Factory) was pretty good, actually. But I forget about it in the next five minutes.

 

There is one fic that I think about all the time when looking at the word "fanfic", and it's a sadfic titled Yours Truly. Couldn't say that it scarred me mentally, but it really was quite sad. Also quite underrated....

I can't read a grimdark FF without nightmares, and I can't read a sad FF without tears. Its just a part of me now.

Eugh, well, there was this one called "The Experiments of Twilight Sparkle" that was horrid and just well enough written to make me feel all appaled and scared.

 

But if you want to talk fanfics that left an actual mental impression on me? Fallout: Equestria and FOE: Project Horizons. I found both of those to describe a world I never wanted to see happen to our ponies--Project Horizons, amongst other things, goes into detail about how Pinkie was assassinated just before a nuke went off and she WELCOMED the bullet because she would have burned to death otherwise.

 

So, seeing things like the map, and other new canon that make those stories impossible makes me very, very happy. I generally tend to like the crushing of fanon in general, but rendering FOE outright impossible via canon is especially gratifying.

Well I'm pretty general as I don't read a lot of scarring fictions but here are my few stereotypical fictions that made me queasy...

For me, text doesn't move me in a gruesome way, sure, it may inspire or enlighten, but it has yet to disgust me, infact I scoff at their pathetic attempts to write something that would give me the shivers, yet all I find is run-of-the-mill borderline rip-offs of horror movies just only described in words not video, which isn't alright because horror movies themselves aren't mean't to be on an intellectual level, more like, "Look at the blood omg so edgy omg." Which is the same mindset as the fanfic writers, and that is why no fanfic has yet to scare me.

I recommend Cheerilee's Garden (As I've seen on this post a few times) and The Cutie Mark Killers. They're both so dark and gorey and I think you'll like them. They're definately my favourites.

Only grimdark fics I've ever read completely are Rainbow Factory and its sequel, Pegasus Device. I found Rainbow Factory to be overrated and unsatisfying, but Pegasus Device was one of the best fanfics I've read, even if I dislike grimdark things in general.

Oh my,I just read Cheerliee's Garden and man that was intense. A lot like a ponified Saw but also with enough intelligence and plot to keep it intelligent at the same time. Dark, dark stuff.

Scarlet Harvest continues it and goes even deeper and likely even better. Just works on so many levels.
