What would happen if Diamond Tiara's family lost their wealth?

I did a similar topic on this matter before but it was sent away from 'Show Discussion' where I wanted to discuss it. Basically, this idea could do well for a future CMC episode and a good way to use Diamond Tiara again. In a familiar scenario Rich family goes bankrupt and all the wealth, status and fake friends (ie Silver Spoon) that has inflated Diamond Tiara's ego is stripped from her. She even loses her precious tiara. And of course, she's as miserable.

The CMC, I imagine, would at first feel a sense of justified schadenfreude, a view that would most likely be shared with a large number of fans, considering this is Diamond Tiara we are talking about. She has been nothing short of horrible to them, so in their view, her situation could not have happened to a filly more deserving. But of course, since the CMC are good kids, they will eventually take pity on her and try to cheer her up and teach her the life of an average pony is great, and maybe even try and teach her friendship.

There are several ways this could end;

  • Diamond Tiara could actually learn friendship, becoming a permanently changed filly and truly becomes friends with the CMC, ending it on a high note.
  • In a convenient twist, the Rich family somehow become rich again and her precious tiara is returned to her, and she instantly dismisses everything she's learned and the CMC and turns back into a spoiled brat.
  • Her family regain their wealth and status, but she does NOT dismiss everything she's learned and is still a changed filly for the better.
On a side note, we could also get the chance to meet DT's mother, assuming she is still around, though we have no solid reason to assume she isn't.

This is my take on what would happen if Diamond Tiara lost her money. Is this how you imagine it or do you have a different take?

This would make a pretty good episode involving Diamond Tiara. She lose's her money and becomes miserable. 2 of the CMC would be happy about this, but one would try and make her feel better. Most likely Apple Bloom would be the one. AP would offer for her to try one of their adventures and in the end they would have a good time. At the end the family would get their money back and they would be friends.

Well i think realistically the family would fall apart, but since it is a "kid's" cartoon, they would probably live middle class... and diamond tiara specifically, wouldn't be so snooty towards the cutie mark crusaders. and they would have to... actually work. :o

I bet if Diamond Tiara's family lost their vast wealth, then she (along with most of her relatives) would be forced to sell crack on the streets of ponyville in order to make ends meet. This would, at first, change her character for the better - seeing as she has learnt the humility that comes with being impoverished although soon she would become an addict and eventually OD and die. :(

But, since it's a kids' show then she would probably just become a better pony and not receive her lost wealth...

Well she'll lose all her found fame and glory, and the CMC's being as "nice" as they are will become friends with her... (I know kinda sappy, but you know I can't stand to see anypony upset.)

She could always wake up somewhere on the edge of equestria like los pegasus and have to do actual work to earn enough bits to get back to ponyville.

Well i think thats a great idea first off! Now there should be that time where the CMC have a nice long bragging rights. Then Apple Bloom and Beauty Belle go home an tell their sisters what happened. Rarity celebrates with Belle and Applejack tells Apple Bloom its not good to make fun of people even if you hate them. Soon Applejack and Apple Bloom try to find a way where the Rich Family isnt suffering as bad as it should of been

Don't forget that at the end of the episode she'd have to write to Celestia explaining how being rich doesn't make you happy and have good friendships. :P

A very good concept for an episode, which I could see taking place very easily. The lesson could be about how to act in humbling experiences and to find that material possessions does not equal true happiness, as surely the loss of wealth would also strip Diamond Tiara of pride. She would have to learn to be humble and be thankful for what you have. You can have everything you own lost in one swift moment, and yet you can still be happy and thankful because your friends and family are still there to find joy in.

It would be a very touching CMC episode, and the lesson is, both for this generation and the next, very relevant due to the state of the world and economy right now. (And then for a nice twist, at the end of the episode, when Tiara finally finds happiness, her father finds another source of weath and they become rich again, yet she ceases to bully the CMC from then on.)

I agree, it is a very relevant lesson. Though I personally do wonder how many kids would take away the lesson with them and to heart.

Diamond Tiara writing to Princess Celestia? Now that I'd like to see. An addition to that, I suppose, is appreciating your friends and family when you don't have material possessions to comfort you.

I dont agree with the end.I think when Diamond Tiara's Family have their money back Diamond Tiara would be as usual.I've seen a few episodes of the same topic(on other shows)and i think it will end the same like all others.

True, a lot of shows go in that direction. As soon as the mean charter get's their money back they go back to the way they were and everything goes back to the way it was. But MLP does things differently and I think they would not do things that way. Still the classic way may be the way they go.

If Diamond Tiara were to lose her wealth, I'm sure it would cause her popularity in school to drop immediately. Maybe Silverspoon might help her out, but in the end, they'll just be miserable. I kinda want to see more background on her, as all we know is that she's wealthy, and her father is Filthyrich.

Also, anyone else think Diamond Tiara fits more well as a unicorn and not an Earth pony? Just a thought.

I always thought that as well, but that might just be stereotyping on my part.

Personally, I think that they could have an episode about it and use it as an homage to The Little Princess, perhaps? That would be both entertaining and provide the kids with cultural background.

Actually I have the funny feeling that if Diamond Tiara lost her wealth that Silverspoon would be the first pony to disown her as a "friend."

Although I do see that realistically happening, seeing SS being the first to clap in respect for Granny Smith in Family Appreciation Day does hint at her not all that shallow deep down, so she could POSSIBLY stay with DT.

That would be a very sweet thing to happen. The entire episode would be Diamond Tiara thinking that no one would want to be her friend after she loses her wealth, and then it turns out that Silver Spoon liked her all the same because they both were lonely little girls who needed a companion.

Good idea for an episode! I'd think an ending to an episode like that would be a mix of outcome 2 and 3 on the OP's list. Tiara's family gets wealthy again. She kinda turns back into a snob, but doesn't forget the true happiness the CMC have her. So perhaps she is nicer from now on but it doesn't lock the writers out from making DT a mini-villian in the future.

I think that's a great idea! I could actually see this becoming an episode that both bronies and the younger audience could enjoy. It would further character development (what the older fanbase likes), it could showcase semi-real life situations and teach a message (what Hasbro and parents like), and it would have the younger ponies in it (what the younger fanbase likes).

Wow! That would actually make a great episode in one of the seasons, the lesson probably would be " Appreciate what you've got and don't take things for granted" or "Learn from those who've you've hurt". I really don't know XD but yeah great idea!
