So I was watching the Royal Wedding DVD and then I thought of something when Celestia asked Apple Jack to cater the party. Why did she ask Apple Jack to do it and not Pinkie Pie and the Cake family do it?

This made me wonder if the two families share the business or are they competing with each other.

Now I know well that Apple Jack and her family have helped out at many different events. Like in the first episode, the Apple family helped out at the Summer Sun Celebration and Apple Jack was allowed a booth Grand Galloping Gala. But Apple Jack only knows how to make apple themed food and not much else. And yes ponies don't eat much and a lot of times we see them eating apples, but would only just apples food be good for a wedding.

The Cake family also gets a lot of different jobs to and they may have also helped out at the Summer Sun Celebration. When Celestia came to town they had the party at the Sugarcube Corner. To what it looked like they can make other things besides sweets. That would be much better for a party. I well admit that I would have like to see them just so, Pound and Pumpkin would be in the episode. Not to mention it would be another thing they could have used to show that Cadences was evil in some way.

So are the rivals or something else?

That would make for an EPIC episode.. Cakes and apple flying through the air,People getting bucked left and right Pinkie cannons going off in pony's faces.

But to answer your question Celestia is still mad at Pinkie for eating her Cupcake.. She's just hatin'

I say that the Cakes and the Apples are not involved in the slightliest, on each episodes when their professions are in involved, I don't see any relation the one with the other.

If one episode features the Cakes work, the Apples won't show and viceversa, and in the wedding episode, Princess Celestia obviously picked each of the mane6 for their special talent.

More than a baker, we all know that Pinkie Pie as the party crack, so it's obvious that she would be picked to do the entertainment in the wedding, and what else Applejack would be picked? to do a rodeo? a marathon? nah! that's not wedding appropiate.

A very interesting idea, and surely it'd make an interesting episode idea. The apples have the advantage of having both vegetables and fruits for all of the town and region, but can also make sweets from those crops. All the cakes do is sweets, specifically, but, have a bigger variety of flavors since they make their sweets from all sorts of things, not just apples. The only way they'd be directly competing is at a sweet's contest, where I imagine the cakes have an advantage, seeing as they have more flavor variety. Hmmm...

I just think it's friendly competition between two families, nothing more, nothing less. (However that would make for an epic episode.)

I agree, if they were enemies then Applejack and Pinkie Pie would not be friends so the The Cake and Apple may be business partners.

I doubt that they're enemies, Celestia asked the Mane 6 to do individual jobs and I guess the only place she could use Apple Jack was in the kitchen making cakes and sweets. Besides if they were enemies, I don't think AJ would of helped carry the cake to the train on the episode "MMMystery of the Friendship Express".

Very true and maybe I should have used a different word besides enemies. Also In the episode "MMMystery" AJ was the first one to try and take a bit. So it could be something that she has not yet resized.

No, because the Cake family is usually busy with business and Celestia obviously thought it would be a better idea to invite Applejack as she didn't have much to do anyways, also considering Twilight and the rest had to come along, she'd thought it only be fair if she gave AJ a job as well.

I'd say that the cake family would have been super busy. But yeah...who would want all apple themed food at their wedding???

Maybe if they'd given the Cakes more notice they would have had a menu to appeal to a number of different pallets instead of just those with a taste for apple. :P

Sweet Apple Acres appears to be one of the largest, if not the only, foray of agricultural industry into Ponyville.

Sugarcube Corner is a local bakery, and not the only restaurant in town, as seen in other episodes such as S1E3 The Ticket Master.

The former is a farm and therefore its mainstay is produce. The family has a talent and history of being good cooks and bakers.

The latter is a store which makes and sells food goods, which is the primary employ of its tenants. Beyond this, little is known about the Cakes.

It's not enough to actually drive a logical argument that they're opponents, but I think you may have given me an idea to steal for another story.

True, if they were going to go with average, everyday, good tasting baked food stuff....logically they would have just been able to find somewhere in Canterlot instead of getting the catering done elsewhere.

Actually, judging from the reaction of the hoity toity canterlot ponies in the galloping gala to "carnival fare" -- I could see Princess Celestia going for an all apple-food wedding just to let out some of the starched suits they have in Canterlot above and beyond wanting to give AJ a role.

Ok, who many want applecake for their wedding?

.... Not very many, it seems.

Not very many Humans, that is!

Remember, we're talking some kind of equines, here ... :)

Also, since Twilight were supposed to be there, it may be probable that Celestia wanted the whole Mane 6 to be there, just as an "extra security".

And, what is the best way to be certain that All of them comes?

Make them responsible for a part of the wedding preperations!

And face it, AJ is better at making cakes than at fixing entertainment.

Hey pinkiefan, where did Apple Bloom get that kickass suit of armor? Since they're horses and they need shoes, I imagine there's a blacksmith somewhere in Ponyville.
