What noise keep you awake?

I actually prefer to have noise when I'm falling asleep! I usually put a movie on a timer so that when the movie is over, the television shuts off. By then I'm usually already asleep so I don't have to deal with the night time frightening me :P Because I'm a coward.

I simply can't sleep without some kind of noise myself. Usually I'll set the timer on my TV and let it play as I fall asleep.

I actually have more trouble sleeping in complete silence. Because then my mind starts wandering, and that's never good..

Also once I'm out I am out. There have been many a time where my friends have tried to wake me up to no avail. :P

I can sleep through almost anything. Except crying babies/children. Worst sound ever. My reaction is not so much "aww, the poor dear" as it is "shut that thing up". This effect is magnified exponentially in the following environments:

- in a movie theater...seriously, what asshole brings a 2 year old to Prometheus?

- a restaurant...possible solutions: hire a sitter / stuff food in its noise hole / get the food to-go

- on a 10 hour flight across the ocean...I truly hate flying commercial

Once I'm a sleep noises dont really wake me up, but getting to sleep is another thing.

Anything unfamiliar will keep me up. I keep a playlist of music from ponytown on when I sleep. Since I've heard it so long, my mind can focus on it as a familiar thing without being distracted by it.

But when it's particularly hot, I sometimes put my window AC unit on High Fan mode. The thing about this is that the 120hz hum specifically resonates loudly right where my head usually lies due to room acoustics, so I never have it on high when sleeping.

Besides those simple, controllable things

Spoiler

the noise of my thoughts / ptsd emotions are what keep me up the most, and while I wish I could say it was positive, many times it hasnt been, and it can make the going-to-sleep process torturous if I'm not already dead tired. Thankful I now have anxiety medicine for that which makes me eepy so I dont have to think those thonks. So it's getting better :3

Silence is what  keeps me awake. I can’t sleep in total silence; it’s deafening and it drives me crazy. I always sleep with a loud fan next to my bed and the white noise carries me off to dream land. But if there’s a power outage or someone turns off my fan it jolts me awake. If anyone has noises that keep them awake I strongly recommend getting a very loud fan or a white noise machine to drown out annoying noises and replace them with a steady, relaxing hum.
