How to make it 'big' or be 'famous' in the pony fandom?

Here's a few good tips on how to become well-known in any community.

First, don't try so hard to become famous. You can't rush these things. It takes time and patience, and a consistent delivering of high-quality works that are made not for the sake of fame, but because you enjoy making them. Passion should always be your driving force, and never should you be fueled solely by a desire for fame. If you make good things people enjoy, you are certain to be successful.

Next, advertise your works, but advertise it carefully. Drawing attention to something by spamming everywhere about it is the mark of an amateur. Post about your new works on your Tumblr, your Steam, Blogs, or any other areas where you can put it where it is not only appropriate, but welcomed. Try to use your connections, telling people you know online and in real life about it, so that you can spread the word by word of mouth. Impressed fans WILL pass along something good enough.

Third, get into a regular rhythm of updating, not drawing out projects too long or making them too short. Too long rarely fares well, and too short makes a work seem amateur. Mind your release dates, spreading them out (Try to get in the rhythm of weekly/monthly uploads for smaller projects, and post updates on the progress of larger projects) so that the site they are on will consistently rank you higher and higher in the search engine for a long time. This is especially key on DeviantArt.

As for MLP webcomics, a quick search turns up Friendship is Tragic, Friendship is Dragons, Rainbow Dash Academy, and "A Comic Loosely Based On My Little Pony" (I do not recommend this one, as it is NSFW).

hmmm no, I think the fandom has plenty of artists, too much good artworks, shitons of music, great animations, games, whaterver you call, you have it, the lack is in the forums, remember that this forums is not the fandom, it's just part of it, but I don't understand what kind of poll you want to make.

Well, I'm not sure how to put it better, but a poll that asked people if they would want a separate section on Octavia's hall dedicated exclusively to tutorials and such things for any kind of art, like TheBigAnimation wants. And then ask the moderators if they can afford making such a thing without it being WAY complicated. And if not, then maybe gather some people so they make a site or at least a tumblr to help out people. I know this sounds much more complicated, but I don't know how to put it best.

Also, exactly what this man/woman says. Listen to every word written there, as much as Crona's. Those are good advices for you, TheBigAnimation.

I am male. It says so right in my profile. I have more solid proof, but that would require either mutilation or an incredibly NSFW pic.

Right right I understand what you all mean. Now the hard part is just rounding up some friends and gathering a group like that. I would LOVE to kinda establish my own little group of bronies somehow. I just don't know where to start. 8(

lol no! I understood everything :)

but making a new forum with such specifications, in what would be different to Creative Resources? This forum is the same thing IMO but people just don't care much about contents on that forum.

but I think is a good idea, I think the forum should have a youtube account and a tumblr (maybe)

I'm all for making a YouTube account for the forums, that way if we were to post some sort of tutorial section we can upload the tutorials to that account, I don't know what we would do with a tumblr though, but I am for a YouTube channel. Plus we can post things that were made by people on the forums like animations or something IDK. There's a forum called "Keroro World" and even though it's pretty much... not very active right now... they had a YouTube channel where they posted Keroro Gunsou episodes, English subtitled, though they took them down because Funimation entertainment started dubbing Keroro.

To be honest, I forgot the profile could show the gender if the member so wished to  . But eh, first mistake I always do, is that almost always I say something as "he" or man, instead of something neutral ^_^ . And you need not to worry, I believe your words. No need for pain, trauma, banishment from the site or such things.

Well, first, try to see what people is an artist on whatever kind, and see if they are interested in your idea, to help with it, and to help others, and promote it. Then, see if someone knows how to handle such a type of site. And then, make sure, you have as much variety as you can get (lest you get a request for help on a type of art nobody knows how to answer to  ). After that, it's time and patience :)

I get it, and you're right. But at least, create either a Youtube account, or something similar, link it to the forum, and people can post either their own, or even others tutorials (like for example, I think Tsitra360 has one? ). Something like that would be nice :) .

This thread appears to be related to the My Little Pony franchise and/or the Bronydom in general. Thus, it has been sentenced to Sugarcube Corner.

This is an automatically generated message, by the way.

I've wanted that SO MUCH!

I've been desperate to get noticed in the brony community when I first got on this site. I've been testing my skills in multiple places; like drawing, songwriting, singing, writing, ect.

I was the first to learn WoodenToaster's "Nightmare Night" on piano, and that got me a bit of noticeably. -_-

The secret to really becoming popular is expressing yourself, and then if everypony likes that expression you bring out, you make it big! :)

Aaah I see I'm glad I'm not alone ^^; I also made a group on DA today here: http://brony-roundup.deviantart.com/

So if you have a DevaintART don't be afraid to join! I know it looks like it needs work but with more members it'll get better 8'D

I'm kind of famous on my YouTube, I have about 2000 subscribers and about 4.3 million views. I got my video featured on EQD once even :D

Basically what I did was submit my videos as responses to videos they are related to that have tons of views :)

I don't really know how else to get famous (if that could even be considered that famous), seeing it as I'm not good at a lot of things, eheheheh

There really isn't any secret to it, just find something you like to do that others can enjoy and do as often as you can. Post your stuff on as many sites as possible but don't spam and use all the feedback you get to improve. Also, hope that something you make goes viral in the community.

I would just do something that I love, and that I know I'm good at, that way I know I'm giving it my 110%. But we all want to be famous, not just in the brony community.

You add "Doctor" to the front of your name and try to be the first respondent to a new topic with a pretty good opinionated post.

Oh, for the fandom. Well, all roads lead to Equestria Daily. If you are great at art, make a bunch then submit it for a Drawfriend (if they still have those). If you're good at writing, do a good job and submit your fanfic, etc and so forth.

EQD isn't the end-all-be-all, but it's the main channel. For art, post it to DeviantART and submit it to as many MLP groups you can find.

You can't "make it big" writing fanfic. I've been published on EqD 6 times, about as much as anybody.  I have 570 followers and 56,000 views on fim-fiction.  The most-watched writer is Pen Stroke, with 3000 followers and 125,000 views.  Nobody knows me if I go to a convention.

Compare that to music or animation, where getting 100,000 views on a single animation would make you moderately popular.

Animation is a lot more work. It's best done as a team effort.

Music or voice acting is probably the best way to get famous--you CAN do it all yourself, though it's more fun to work with others.

But if you haven't already got one of those skills, you're behind the curve.  I can't think of anybody who'se "gotten big" at something they hadn't already done for many years before joining the fandom.

In animation, comedy will make you famous.

In fan-fic, clop will get you a lot of followers quickly but will never take you to the top.  Romance will get you a lot of followers quickly and /might/ take you to the top, e.g., SleeplessBrony.  In the good old days of 2011, you could "break in" with a major long work.  Now, you need to do comedy shorts to get a little attention.  It's sort of too late to be "big" in fan-fiction--there's too much competition.  No stories are going to become as famous as Fallout:Equestria, Past Sins, or My Little Dashie anymore, for the same reasons no writer will ever become as famous as Shakespeare.  (He's not the best.  He just got there first.)

There's really no reason to try to be "famous" in the community as to do so you really need to focus more on doing something WELL and in comparison to the REST of the community. To do that you need to focus on your craft whether that be music, writing, or art, or whatever you can do well. To be famous shouldn't be the goal as likely someone has already beaten you to the punch and done it first which sadly is important in determining that as for many people that ship has sailed. There's only so many popular people this community will allow after all. Also it's more important to enjoy what you are doing more than anything. If anything try to be unique. Sometimes with musicians it's better to have a specific style that people know you do so that there's a name recognition with that style (Silva Hound for house, Mic the Microphone for rap, Archie for progressive house) and to be really good at it. I'm hoping being a jack of all trades and prolific will be enough to win people over as variety is what i enjoy making.

Take a look at the list of the top brony musicians.

There are only 4 bonafied "stars" (alicorns) with 50,000+ subs. I'm sure they get mobbed at broyncon (except Glaze who actually shies away from being recognized unlike his protoge Tomb who has flourished with getting his face out there (remember Tombface?).

There's only about 50 other unicorns with 5,000+ subscribers that are also "famous". And nearly 100 pegasi who have 1,000-5,000 subs. And below that are hundreds if not easily a thousand plus musicians who have gotten nowehere near those level of recognition. Keep in mind i know some of the people who have gotten in those 1,000-3,000 ranges and seen them state that they don't feel recognized or popular which is saddening as it seems that even when they HAVE accomplished success they won't personally feel like its there. So it may always FEEL like an uphill battle because it always will be as there's always people way above you and way below you. Most important thing is to be happy with what you have in this community and to not constantly be wanting more. Otherwise there's a good chance you'll always be a little miserable.

But there's nothing wrong for wanting to be recognized by the community for what you do OR to build a fanbase or subscribers or followers so you don't have to rely on the fickle standard of EQD just to get a current creation noticed by the community at large. wink.png
