Opinions on swearing

Why is it acceptable in society to say poop, but you can't say shit? They both mean the same thing, so why is one more acceptable than the other? Or sometimes how people use the word shit in place of stuff. Example, "I have got to try this shit." I feel that unless you are swear at somebody (Ex: Fuck you, you son of a bitch, shithead, etc.) it really isn't that big of a deal. Also, the word shit is just a slang word for poop, so why is it so bad? Let me know how you guys feel about curse words.

Swearing for me sometimes makes it easier to talk to someone, so I am a frequent swearer. They just roll off the tongue easier. In The King's Speech film, the King will swear sometimes to help him practice speaking better. I have the same problem as well, swearing just eases the stress I guess.

I hate saying this but after seeing the Tourettes Guy, my swearing patterns have been slightly influenced by his cursing. Gotta love him.

They're bad because people place them on a pedestal and react to them. If everyone stopped having a reaction to swear words and were apathetic, they wouldn't be taboo anymore. But alas I don't see this changing any time soon in our lifetimes so just gotta have common courtesy and respect others' ears regardless if we agree with it or not.

I do not swear at all. The only time I do is when I'm angry and it's in Russian. If I speak in English, I never curse. If I talk in Russian, one or two might maybe slip out but that's only when I'm in a heated argument.

As I have not been in America that long I don't know about the customs of swearing.

For the most part I don't worry about if I'm swearing, but if I'm around adults or children I don't swear. When I'm with my friends I just don't see the point of censoring yourself, unless of course you're using curse words to bring other people down. That is what I find bad about swearing.

I don't think they're all that bad, it's just that they were words randomly selected to be taboo. Hell, the word "bitch" means "female dog". Some of mah teachers curse, and some have let me off the hook for doing so. Like last year, I said "or whatever the hell it's called" during a project and mah teacher was like "Woah, Kevin, language :o". This year, mah gym teacher says "damn" a LOT and will usually say "pick your ass up" or something like that :P. Mah religion teacher also said "fuck" in class just to see our reactions and show us that it's stupid that people take certain words so seriously (Now a word like "faggot", I can understand)

You say you swear like a sailor, eh? Well, that would make a lot of sense considering your name is the Titanic Brony. Puns are punny.

I'm okay with it if you arn't abusing it, but when you reach a point where every other word out of your mouth is an f-bomb, you need tone it back and learn that more than one swear word exists, get a little creative.

I only swear to be goofy, or if I'm quoting someone/something.

Sometimes, if I get made, I might slip out a "damnit..." underneath my breath, but for the most part, I just don't need to swear. I avoid swearing because of common courtesy. Also, whenever I am around those that I respect highly, though, mainly, I mean adults, I simply don't swear because I respect the person too much. It's kind of a formality vs. informality thing for me in this aspect.

I don't mind it unless it's in front of young'uns. I feel a little restraint should be used around young folks. I am not above swearing in front of women though, unless I feel they are the type that might not like it, but most women I know swear more than I do.

I know this sounds bad but I started swearing when I was in third grade and in front of my Mother. She's cool with it, unless I start randomly cursing people out in public, she'll curse too sometimes. It's how I get along with my Mother and Brother, who also curses.

But I'm the best curser in the family, hands down, and nothing to be proud of.

One word I consider a taboo is the N word, I can say 'F*** God****, etc. but I cannot say that racial slur. I was not raised that way, I just can't say it, not at all!

Though like I said, I'l say F**** and God*** and Damn crap and hell sometimes, though rarely I'll say the F word or God****

I also mind my cursing around younger people as well, like my cousin for example. I had to catch myself cursing and replace it with something. Instead of 'screw those bastards' was what I was about to say, I said 'those darn jerks!'

I use any words that can make for an apt description of my thoughts. If I feel strongly about something, then take a guess as to what the wording would be :3.

Swearing doesn't bother me, but if someone uses a lot of swearing to make a point, I get pretty annoyed. Although depending on the circumstances, I'll either get annoyed or amused. (like one time when I trolled a gold seller on one mmo and he cursed at me in chinese, that was a pretty lulzy moment)

I actually never swear. Not even when I'm alone. Partially due to beliefs, partially due to being courteous and polite, and partially because I find that replacing or censoring swear words adds a LOT more comedy and emphasis to what you're saying than actually swearing.

I see nothing wrong with saying "shit" when the situation calls for it. When something goes wrong ("Oh shit"), when something refuses to work ("WORK, you stupid POS!!"), or just situations where it feels like you gotta say it.

Fuck, on the other hand, I kinda have a problem with. Rape's nothing to take lightly. While most people don't associate it with rape anymore, it's still not a pleasant word by any means. I still occasionally say it though.

As for damn and hell, well, I don't see those as "swearing" to begin with.

Well I swear a lot....

First day of school

*going the wrong way*

Friend: Isn't you class this way?

Me: Fuuuuck! >:L

*Teacher glares at me darkly*

I don't know why they're that bad, I mean, I don't like seeing 8 year olds swearing, and I wouldn't swear in front of my parents xD

My parents are very against it, some of my friends swear, some don't but are neutral, and some are also highly against it. I've had so much practice switching back and forth I automatically do it now, depending on who I'm around.

I've never understood why some words are frowned upon but others aren't. They are all just words. Meaningless words. Like why is saying the word fuck so harmful. Was it how the word came to be? It's just another word.

I personally have the mouth of a sailor... I think I drop the f bomb too many times a day...

Excessive swearing and constant F-bombs i find juvenile. When i think someone constantly swearring i think of some 15y.o online trying to show how awesome he is at "insert online game here".=

By doing so you're just showing you lack vocabulary, and an obvious substitute for lack of je ne sais quoi?

Oh god, The Kings Speech, we watched that in my social studies class last year lol. When we got to the swearing part, everyone just lost it.

On Topic:It depends on who I'm with. With my buddies, I'll swear, but not usually around people I don't know

I swear, but at least not as much as NightmareRH... For someone who dosen't have tourettes, he sure does swear a lot.

Swearing is unclassy and informal, also considered rude, so I usually don't, unless if I'm mad or in pain (like someone stepped on my foot and I'm bleeding).

I grew up in a very religious family and went to a very strict, religious, and sheltered private grade school. When I got to high school it was a huge culture shock and took me a while to adjust to swearing. By now I have completely disregarded any and all reactions to them. To me now theres just some sort of humor or sarcasm or something that goes along with whatever swear I use. People know I'm not serious when I swear.

Example of my speech:

Friend: Hey lets go grab some food

Me: HEY SHUT THE FUCK UP YOU WHORE

Friend: Alright so in 5 minutes?

Me: Sounds good.
