The Everfree Forest is one of my favorite areas of the show. It's just so cool, mysterious, and dangerous. But I realized, we haven't seen much of it since Season 1.

...Hold on, let me go review the S2 episodes on the wiki.

...Yeah, there was only ONE episode The Everfree Forest appeared in. The Cutie Pox. And it only appeared briefly while Apple Bloom was in Zecora's hut. Everfree might have appeared a few more times, but it was barely as prominent as it was in Season 1.

Do you think they'll be bringing it back more on the coming seasons? Do you think we'll ever know why it's there? Do you think you know why it's there?

And why does it look so small on that map of Equestria poster? I always imagined the Everfree to be bigger than that. But then again, the poster says it isn't to scale, so many it is bigger.

I did like the Everfree, but I think season 2 was fine without it... I do however want to see more of it in the coming season. The reason it looks so small on the map is because it's not to scale (as you've said" It's actually split into 3 different sections, and each section is about the length of Ponyville to Canterlot minus the elevation.

Well I also agree. I thought the Everfree forest was much bigger than that, but I don't think they had the space to put such a big forest on the map. Though, it is like.. Almost three times bigger than Ponyville itsrelf if you take a look on the map and compares.

And we know how big Ponyville is, right?

Now think three times as big as that.

It isn't that small anymore, is it? (Though, yes. I expected it to be like.. much bigger)

I would love to see some more of the Everfree forest. But since it's so close to Ponyville I'm pretty sure we will get atleast one episode with it in season 3. And if not, maybe next season? Because let's be honest, everypony already knows there will most likely be a season 4 because well..

The Everfree Forest really is pretty interesting with all the creatures it could hide. I was just really surprised when there were creatures like Manticores and Hydras.

Plus those ruins at the old bridge there.

Huh, didn't realize that the Everfree really didn't feature in Season 2 that much until you mentioned it; but, I guess that just goes to show how amazing Season 2 was that it was so complete and well done that it didn't need to feature a locale as interesting as the Everfree Forest. Guess we'll just have to wait and see what happens in Season 3 to see if it features any more this season.

Shouldn't this be in the ever free forest section? I kid. :P

Anyway,

I would love to see more everfree forest. There was always something interesting when they went there. Maybe season 3 will give it more spotlight. :/

I really enjoy that setting as well. Everything there seems to captivate my attention. Plus, the adventures there seem to be more, well, intriguing than the normal kind.

Despite the fact that it gave me a fear of heavily wooded areas (FML i live next to one)

Its still one of my favourite locations in the show.

One thing that especially intrigues me is the "ancient castle of the royal pony sisters"

I cant help but wonder what the story is behind it..........

It would be cool if they brought back the Everfree Forest for season 3. I would like to see more of the animals that live there and it would be cool to see old ones come back to. Maybe even find out why it acts so weird. Also they could go back to that castle that is there. Maybe find out more about Celestia and Luna.

Yeah, the ruins are cool.

The forest also featured rather prominently in Family Appreciation Day. In any case, I liked that Season 2 did more to mix up the setting. Sure, the forest could be explored more, but so can any location in the world there.

Oh yeah, how did I forget that episode?! Ah, that episode was awesome! I eve put Timberwolves (one of my favorite Everfree creatures) in the tags and forgot to list that episode... I'm so crazy.

Yes, I know Everfree isn't the only place, and Season 2 did well without it. But it's still a really awesome location.

Yup. Season 2 was pretty good. :)

Hah, is that a section? It probably isn't exactly FiM related though, just named that because... well... the names have gotta be FiM related. :)

It's a dark and spooky forest with creatures in it, with ponies.

Me too. I have this headcanon that, the capital of Equestria used to be inside the Everfree, but something happened that corrupted the old kingdom, so the civilians and royal sisters fled to their new haven, Canterlot.

I've got a very similar head canon :3 It can be found inside my massive Head Canon of Equestria's history.

I don't doubt it'll be shown some more. Kinda hard to ignore a forest full of deadly creatures that neighbors Ponyville, the hub of the show's episode plots for the most part. I'd like to find out some history about it, and encounter more species of critters in there past what we've already seen.

Whenever I think of Everfree Forest, I keep on thinking of this nostalgic forest:

I would love to see more of it, because it's clearly the show's anti-thesis. Dangerous beasts and a stale environment to boot next to Ponyville, a loving and carefree place. Yeah, I want more of that explored, please. Why is that the only place where love and tolerance apparently isn't spread? :P

Perhaps Princess Luna corrupted the kingdom when she turned into Nightmare Moon, and then, when she was banished to the moon, the citizens of the kingdom had to flee from the old kingdom because Nightmare Moon had created a dark and unnatural forest...

One thing that especially intrigues me is the "ancient castle of the royal pony sisters"

I'm curious about that too. Especially why it is "ancient" (that is, how long time ago they lived there, and why don't they live there now), and why it's a "ruin" (who ruined it and why). Was there some war? Or cataclysm?

The name "Everfree Forest" may suggest that there was some kind of battle, and this place has been defending very well for most of it. The only place where a pony can stay free.

Well, unless it's just a reference to the wildness of the forest, which stayed free from any manipulations with weather and wild life :-P

But there are those ruins which... well, ruin the theory, because it was a castle of Luna and Celestia back then in ancient times. In what age were Celestia and Luna when living there? Were they just children and lived there with their royal parents? What caused them to drop that castle? Was there any battle? Maybe there went something more dangerous, like some magical catastrophe, which caused them to leave it? That could explain why the forest around it is considered "spooky". There might have been some powerful spell or a curse cast upon the whole place back then.

But the most intriguing part is why the Elements of Harmony were there. Why the royal sisters have left them there instead of taking them with themselves to the new location? Maybe they had to run/evacuate from there in a hurry and didn't have time to take them? But then, why didn't they returned for them in some other time, where the situation settled down?

I think Nightmare Moon was the catastrophe. I always got the impression that's where they lived before, and Celestia left sometime after banishing her, likely due to depression. I've also wondered about the Elements and how they're used... apparently Celestia could use them by herself at that time, but maybe the sadness of losing her sister de-harmonized her emotions to the point that she couldn't use them anymore, and that's why she left them there? Since they're shown as crystals in the intro sequence, and necklaces/crown for the mane 6, maybe Celestia using them alone is what turned them to stone... a reflection of her heart, after what she had to do.

Celestia is always one of my favorite characters to over-analyze :P

I also wonder exactly how much time passed "1000 years ago". A apparently Celestia and Luna imprisoned Discord, took over ruling the country, built that castle, beat up Sombra at some point (may have even been before Discord?), and then Luna went bad. So how long did they actually live in the castle? And was there a whole city around it like Canterlot? It would be so cool if they made a spinoff series, or at least a couple movies, about Celestia and Luna's past :)

As for the Everfree itself... my guess is that it just grew on its own after the area was abandoned. It's possible it would have some magical corruption type origin, but a lot of the spooky stuff about it is just that it's like a normal real world forest, so I tend to think of it as a natural thing.
