Why I think the brony fandom will never die out

Guess who's back? Back again? Dylan's back. Tell a friend. (Yes I know I haven't posted in while, I'll get back to it soon).

Anyway, this is why I think the brony fandom will never die out.

First of all, let's focus on Spongebob. That show has been going on for years, and do you know why? It's because of the large fan base it has gathered, and it motivates the production team to continue dishing out new episodes for the fans.

That's the first part.

Now let's look at bands like Nirvana and Metallica. Those are considered to be the greatest bands of all time. They're not together anymore, yet they still have a massive following, and continue to sell records and gain new fans.

Now let's focus back onto MLP.

Let's face it, one day, My Little Pony is going to stop airing, but I still think that it has some life left in it. I'd say 10 Seasons, maybe more, but I'm probably just as wrong as the next person. However, that's not the point.

The reason I think the fandom will never die out is because if you look at how large the following the show has received, as well as the amount of new fans that watch the show for the first time every day, you can almost tell it's going to go down the same road that Metallica and Nirvana did.

Even on the sad day that Hasbro announces a new generation of My Little Pony toys, and the show made along side it is probably absolute garbage, we have come so far in the last few years, that people will remember us, and in the future, you will find people who hear about this magical show, and decide to watch it for themselves, and you will still see people joining the fandom everyday, because we have become much bigger than most other fandoms, that we won't be remembered as some short lasting dead fandom. We will continue to grow, even when the show dies, there will still be people watching it, old or new members, and because our community is so strong, this will likely continue for years to come.

Like I said before, the production team will likely continue to crank out episodes until it becomes dull, but people will still watch those episodes, just like Spongebob at the moment, like I said earlier.

That is why the fandom will not die out, and we will likely continue to be there, even if all mainstream attention is focused on some other bizarre fandom or following, we will continue to occupy an ever growing space on the internet, and people will still find it and have access to it for a long time.

Well done bronies, on everything you have done. You are what keeps this fandom going. Season 3 is almost here, and believe me, it shall be fantastic.

Stay brony my friends.

Just wish I could watch the shows as they air. But don't get the Hub and also would get strange looks from my brother who doesn't know I'm a brony. And ya, with as many fans as there are now, there are a lot of stories, pictures, comics, music out there that it will always come into view by someone, perhaps bringing them into the fold. Who knows how many seasons there will be but it will be some time before Gen 4 is far into the background and will be a slow slow death (but never a true death).

I look forward to the day when I'm still here on the Forums, possibly 10 years later, sharing all of my life experiences with people who like My Little Pony

Studio B has some very talented actors, artists, writers, and showrunners - that said, I'm sure they'll keep coming up with a lot more ideas for episodes and have fun doing so. Needless to say, in MLP's sophomore year, it already set numerous records and kept on attracting all these people who could relax and enjoy a light-hearted cartoon (with a not-so-obvious fanbase in terms of identifying who's in it), or getting together and making new friends. The ride isn't over yet.

I don't think I get MLP where I live, but am still able to watch the episodes on launch day, as they're usually on YouTube within a couple of hours.

I completely agree with what you said about the show dying. It will continue to air, but not forever.

I agree, I think a better comparison would be to the trekkies. The shows long gone, but they are still going strong. Just like the brony fandom, I highly doubt this one will be gone in a snap of the fingers. I honestly think the show had such an impact on people that it will be a LONG time before it begins dying down. I know I'll definitely never leave this place.

I've thought about this, and all I can say is that I agree.

Subcultures don't die easily. Obviously ths show struck people in a way different than a "cult" series.

People eat, sleep and breathe pony. Heck once Gen 5 rolls around Hasbro would be moronic to devolve the franchise back to gen 3 levels once they have so many bronies eating out of their hands. There's a reason there's still Gen 1 Transformers comics. People are attatched to those characters.. And kids who grew up with that cartoon were never as involved and passionate as us. We're gonna see stuff for us for a long time.

Indeed good points. We may even have comic continuations as well. My only fears are:

1- some soccer mom freaks the fuck out about finding out that grown men love MLP, immediately assumes we're all pedophiles and that Hasbro is supporting pedophilia, and effectively does something crazy like endless antibrony campaigns that destroy Hasbro's reputation that will end the show and make our public image very well known to the public and under a foul light. (I know it's a ridiculous thought, but those soccer mom bitches truly can have power in numbers, remember Derpy? These bitches once they latch on to something to complain about because it's somehow "a danger to the children/offensive" spread like cancer, have the effect of cancer and usually kill whatever they latch on to. They are the, no, ONE OF the true cancers of society)

2- the show ends and then a few years along the line society gets into our heads making us believe we were stupid for liking it, effectively making MlP become like Disco did after it died where people think "hey remember when we liked MLP? I can't believe we were that stupid man"

These are Ridiculous fears, but still...

The fandom will die out. Everything dies out sometime. Spongebob or not. In 20 years I bet Spongebob is dead already.

" -__- 50 years yeah " Well I think it will take a long time before this fandom dies, but it will unfortunately do so sometime.

I would say the brony fandom will die in about..

..20966 minutes because of sudden heart attack. season_3_u_noob.jpg

Cause: Too much excitement.

seriously though, I'm pretty sure the fandom will last for a long time

well, it will lose alot of fans but the hardcore bronies will stay

Uh, pretty sure Metallica is still together brah. ;)

Anyway, yeah, I agree the fandom will always have people in it, I mean look at Star Trek, hasn't been on for years and yet there are still trekkies, we'll last a while for sure I'm sure. :)

This fandom has been compared to the Star Trek fan base quite often, but I feel it is more like the Firefly fan base. The number of seasons doesn't matter, the following will continue to grow and get stronger every year because of how committed, enthusiastic, and close knit it has become.

Star Trek (or even Star Wars since they are similar in this way) doesn't really have the ability to pull people in who were never interested in it in the first place. You watch those shows because you already enjoy the genre they fit into. Firefly has the ability to pull new people in because the writing and feel of the show is genius. FiM has those same addictive characteristics. If you end up catching even 10 minutes of Firefly or FiM, chances are you just became hooked. I know I never expected to find myself this deeply involved in something that deals with MLP.

Also, I can tell you some pretty obscure 90s cartoons still have strong fandoms if you seek them out.

Technically the MLP fandom(yes, even guys) existed long before us bronies, be just made it more acceptable and caused a fandom boom.

Nothing lasts forever guys, even if the fandom dies out long after we die, it will still die eventually. To be honest in my opinion sooner then later. The collectors that have been here since G1 will probably stay, but the brainwashed mainstream group so called "bronys" will probably die out soon. I give them 5 years.

For 1, this practicaly happened to the d&d fandom up to the point that the first result you get when you search 'is it okay?' is a rant against it and it seems that it's fans are still dying. But unlike them, we are practicaly web-based and if need be can google bomb the results so that pro-brony articals can come first...

I Agree with you on this, I mean it's hard to ignore the immense amount of fans this show has accumulated, the fact that there is so much passion for this simple yet amazing show, shows me that we will be here for a long time to come, even when the show is done, it will live on with the colossal amount of creative fan art, fan fiction, and music.

Ahhh...this. So much this. All of what you said. There could not be more truth than what you said. Which is why I don't worry about the fandom dying. And EVEN if it did, I'm enjoying the fandom WAY too much to let something like that worry. But the facts of this happening are probably too low right now. And that, is just great. :)

I just checked and it seems to be nothing but extremist religious people worried that it promotes satanism or some shit like that... we've suffered our share of that garbage at least twice now and it didn't put a dent in our fandom. :D

I say MLP will never die because of FiM....

I give FiM 9 seasons till they stop.. Maybe more maybe less... Idk

Then they will move onto a new series... Like what they do this Pokemon... Likely not but you never know...

Eather thoes or FiM dose something to anger the fans... What are the chances of that?

Eather way... It still makes me sad thinking about the ending

I don't like to think about it but we will probably die with the show if we don't we will never be really a large community when the show stops but let's not think about the future, let's think about the moment.

Powerful words from a fellow brony. I too hope that this does not die out. Mlp is a great show, but because of its past reputation, people don't see that. I'll be here to the bitter end.

Love and tolerance,

David Wang.

Just as long as they don't create a 'final ending' episode. Which I don't think will ever happen.

Or even if they do, it'll be a very long time until that happens.

We aren't going down any time soon. I mean look at us. This show started airing in 2010 and we already have hundreds of thousands of bronies across globe. What with the momentum we're moving at as a fandom and community, nothing could stop us. In two short years we have done so much. Come on everypony lets face it. We basically own the internet. Our community is moving to quickly and powerfully to be stopped by anything.
