Nohbdy 4,108 November 22, 2012 Share November 22, 2012 With Thanksgiving coming around in the US, I feel it would be appropriate to have a thread for giving our thanks. You don't have to celebrate Thanksgiving to post, of course! I'll start. My parents are the first that come to mind. They brought me into this world and worked hard to raise me into who I am today. I've known people who grew up with one or no parents. Some of them are happy, but more of them crash and burn. I've frequently worked with the disadvantaged when I volunteer, and one thing that strikes me is the relationship--or lack thereof--between the children and the parents. It's sad, but it really drives home how fortunate I am to have loving parents. When I was younger, I didn't know how hard it was to raise kids, and I am infinitely grateful that they continued to love and support me despite the inconvenience. It makes me feel guilty for even sometimes being rebellious or defiant, because I know that they just want what's best for me. So, thank you Mom, and thank you, Dad. I'm alive. That's enough to be thankful for right there. And, of course, no thank you post on this site is complete without mentioning My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic. I don't have a touching story about how MLP saved me from killing myself or anything, but MLP--and the wonderful fandom that comes with it--reintroduced me to my childhood. Something about the show managed to break my hard exterior and warm my icy heart. Thanks! I'd give more, but I don't want to bore you with TL;DR stuff. So, what are you thankful for? And don't forget to tell those you give thanks to!
XrosOver 613 November 22, 2012 Share November 22, 2012 I am thankful for my birth. Without my birth, I wouldn't have a birthday. Without a birthday I wouldn't have gotten an Xbox. Without an Xbox I wouldn't have met a friend. Without a friend, I wouldn't be a brony or love ponies. In the end, I am thankful for being born. 4 The mind of the host will desperately try to create memories where none exist. Simple right?
Betez 1,735 November 22, 2012 Share November 22, 2012 I'm thankful for Earth. Without it, we'd all be dead. Or we'd probably be very different. And ponies might not even exist. Anyway, I'm thankful for the world, 4 My OC Stay pony my friends"And ALWAYS remember...to never forget." - Someone who I'm sure has said this before I did
Pulcinella 1,016 November 22, 2012 Share November 22, 2012 (edited) I'm just thankful for my family. I'm glad most of them are bronies, and share my love for ponies, instead of teasing me. I'm also very thankful for my wonderful life, my favorite shows and video games, and the country I live in and know, America. And, of course, who CAN'T be thankful for pets? I love all 5 of my cats, my very talkative parrot, as annoying as he can be sometimes, and my excessively boring turtle. Even though my parents are divorced, my stepdad yells at me a lot, and my school life is basically a living hell, you can tell that I have a life worth living; I have never been depressed, had thoughts on suicide, or even really been all that much stressed out. Dimitri Hammer 3,645 November 22, 2012 Share November 22, 2012 I'm not dead...that's a plus in my book.... I'm thankful for technically everything I have in my life right now. Everything's looking good for me at the present time so life's pretty awesome right now. Silverhoof 2,845 November 22, 2012 Share November 22, 2012 What am I thankful for? Love. without love, life is not worth living. Love of family, friends, my girl. My job in this bad economy. Good food. My little nieces and nephews...we have a Thanksgiving tradition of watching an MST3K monster movie. Spoiling those kids is great fun! Envy 6,529 November 22, 2012 Share November 22, 2012 For being alive. Looks like I've made it another year. For everything my family has provided me with. They aren't perfect, but I would be crazy to not be thankful. For my dogs. I've oftentimes said that if I had a wish, I would most certainly make it to where my life for the last seven years was just a nightmare that would never be reflected in reality. However, if that meant my dogs would never come into my life in that reality I don't know if I could make that wish... And that's saying a lot. A lot more than it seems. For my first semester in university this last semester, and the opportunity to play in an orchestra of that level. That was a huge dream of mine several years back; I can't believe it became a reality (in all of the ways that it really matters). Last year (in a Thanksgiving topic I made) I mentioned my grandparents buying my bassoon for me, which I am still very thankful for. However, my grandma this last year bought me a tenor saxophone, as well, so I'm very thankful for that. While this instrument was a necessity for my success at school (long story, well, not really, but irrelevant story. lol), I still don't know why they've been this willing to spoil me... I'm still thankful for the attention I get from my good friends. However, that just isn't very much at this point... This last year has noticeably been quite lonely after winter ended. But it's pretty much my fault in some cases. 1 Everything needs more woodwind!
Nixter 180 November 22, 2012 Share November 22, 2012 Everything, really, even if my life can be very shitty and hard, it makes me tougher than before, which is cool n' whatnot, I like the good things in life, too, which helps make the bad parts not too shitty to warrant, say, suicide, good thing for balance, eh? I'm thankful for my friends I guess, it's fun to point their mistakes and stuff, which is cool, too. Uh my mum, she raised me how I see to be just perfect, I was given freedom and wisdom so that I may make my own choices and not get in trouble in it, which is really, really good as I could feel not restricted and have to burst all my energy, nope, just good behavior without getting rowdy, which is sick. Thankful for these forums, it lets me give my opinions to people who have the brainpower to process it, and maybe even appreciate it! Yeah, I could be more thankful but I'm thanked-out due to my weird Canadian Voodoo Thanksgiving beforehand you U.S. people freight so much about. Don't Punch! Stab. Jon the VGNerd 896 November 22, 2012 Share November 22, 2012 I'm thankful for... having to endure the unforgiving college work, in which college, overall, never gave me a single break in any way, especially with even more college work today I was given in order to do ALL the assignments, allowing me little time to catch a breather. So yeah, thanks college. Forgive me if I said it, guys. I think my normal Thanksgiving like last year is gonna be different tomorrow.
Otter 1,942 November 22, 2012 Share November 22, 2012 I'm thankful for PC's. Without PC, I couldn't despise Mac. I'm thankful for soda. Without soda, I couldn't have a huge pyramid of soda cans. I'm thankful for the internet. Without the internet, my life would be nothing. I'm thankful for The Living Tombstone. Without him, I would never have become a Brony. I'm only half thankful for my parents. I won't deny that they're good parents, but my mom's a mongoloid (almost) and my dad is unfathomably annoying. how even is otter and how can it be if
~Asuka <3~ 867 November 22, 2012 Share November 22, 2012 I'm thankful for a loving, supporting family (at least most of the time, and when ponies aren't involved). It's really great knowing that you have at least a few people behind you. I'm also thankful for my cat. She's always there, like always. It's a great feeling when you wake up and she's touching your face with her paw. It's as adorable as Rainbow Dash as a filly. 2 #1 Asuka fanboy. Signature created by Thunder Bolt. Creamy Arty 6,252 November 22, 2012 Share November 22, 2012 (edited) Done. To reiterate/state more clearly, I'm thankful for all of you. We have our ups and downs like any community, like any family, but when all is said and done I still think this is the best place and group of people I've ever run across. That goes for Bronydom at large too. Thanks for the smiles and for inspiring me with hitherto unknown confidence. As for my personal life, my parents have always been there to provide for me in my time of need. They also have trusted my judgement (for the most part) and been reasonable people. When telling them about my being a brony because I needed them to fill in for me for a couple days on a house-sitting job in order for me to make it to Bronycon, they were cool with it. They thought everything I told them about the show and fans was great and didn't mind filling in for me. I've never had to do without any necessity and they've been compassionate in times of trouble. There are moments when we disagree, to put it mildly, and there are things we still don't see eye-to-eye on after 24 years, but they've been great to me and I wouldn't trade them for anything. All my love, Mom and Dad... My friend Big Jeff whom I've known for 11 years now. Our first meeting was in 2001, when we were in 9th grade. Both of us were in similar states of distress for reasons similar and dissimilar. At first we were as distant from each other as we were the rest of our peers, but before long we found in each other an ally neither had ever known. We've been through it all together, good times and bad, at school and in each other's homes; during times of unemployment and prosperity. He's always been there for me and I've done my best to be there for him. I was born an only child but I imagine having him for my friend isn't much different from having a brother. There's nothing we can't talk about, nothing we can't share. I owe him my life several times over. No amount of words can express how much I love this guy. My friend David. We went to school together, with him two years behind me. I knew him and his family very well but it's only been in the past year that we've started getting close. I don't recall exactly how it came to be. All I remember is telling him about a book, he borrowed it and loved it, and now we hang out on occasion. He and I both have unusual and eclectic interests, though not many of them in common. I guess our bond is one of mutual weirdness and both of us wanting to be good, decent guys, especially in light of his other friends who like to remind him that he's a faggot for enjoying Taylor Swift's music. He's even a fan of the Twilight Saga. Like most guys, I don't like it, but I go to the movies with him because he enjoys it. Sharing my friends' enjoyment is more satisfying to me than finding some of my own. Every pet I've ever had. James(rabbit), Ginger(dog), Paddy(dog), Misty(dog), and Bing(dog). Kinder and more loyal than most humans, and certainly more cuddly. Bing is the only one still around. Losing each of them was as hard as losing any human in the family. And as Ephesians 5:20 puts it: giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. TailsIsNotAlone 3,697 November 22, 2012 Share November 22, 2012 (edited) I am thankful for... My mom for raising me as a decent person and finally loosening up. My dad for trying to stick around and raise me right, but also setting some cautionary examples for me. My grandparents for helping me out so much since I moved here. The weather; it's the warmest Thanksgiving Day I've ever been out in. Not having to work on Black Friday. Being able to make ends meet living on my own. My dog Clover for being the closest thing to a pony I have in the world: cute and cuddly and nice as can be. And of course, My Little Pony, the awesome forums and all of you for being so nice to me since I came here. Think of me, and don't eat any fox this year. Hoof pump!
