I do not really know...so i didn't vote...i hope that is okay

Put one under agnostic or Equestrianism then. Of course if you don't believe in voting then I guess you can't do much with the poll

It feels a bit strange, my whole family are Christians and sometimes they have said some god stuff and they wanted me to do some church thingy we could sign up at from school.. I dont really understand these religion stuff :L Seems a bit stupid to me :/ I think my dad feels weird about me being an atheist...

Not being sure doesn't necessarily make someone agnostic. For example, you could be unsure whether Islam or Judaism is correct, but that doesn't make you agnostic.

I cannot stand most christians, there's been too many throughout history who use their beliefs as a scapegoat for their actions.

While this may be true for certain Christians who make it in the history books and the news, I don't believe that the majority take their sinfulness to this extreme.

Yes, there have been many Christians who have done terrible things.

But there is also a history of Christians who have done wonderful things. Research some Catholic saints, some Orthodox saints, and some famous historical Protestants.

There are Christians who haven't done anything remarkably good or bad, at least nothing that made them famous.

Your friends who are Christian - they are the norm. They're regular people who believe in being kind and doing good for others. They are the majority, not the kooks who give the religion a bad name.

You probably just have a general dislike toward hypocritical actions. Jesus continually called the Pharisees hypocrites, so really, the people who use their religion as a scapegoat to do whatever they want entirely misses the point of being a Christian. Christianity isn't about self-glorification; it's about glorifying God.

I voted on this thread a long time ago. I'm a Catholic. Perhaps I will post my story later.

Don't think of it as stupid if you don't even understand it.

I'm a Salvation Army Soldier.

The Salvation Army is a Wesleyan church that was started in East London as a result of one Willian Booth witnessing the extreme poverty there in 1865.

You can probably connect the dots and fiigure out why we Salvos do so much charity work.

Now reading over the last two pages and nticing a bit of discussion about "GOD HATES FAGS" and zealotry and etc, I'd just like to insert my opinion here:

According to Proverbs 6:16-19, there are seven things that God hates:

Haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that shed inncoent blood, a heart that devises wicked schemes, feet that rush off to do evil, a false witness that pours out lies and a man who stirs up dissension among brothers.

Nowhere in there do I see anything close to what some wierd, misguided churches preach. If you ask me, if you can't produce a Bible verse IN CONTEXT that backs up what you say the Word of God is, then (putting it bluntly) you're blaspheming. No ifs, buts or anything else about it, that is the defenition of blasphemy.

Now keep in mind that one of the doctrines of the Salvation Army is:

- We believe that the Scriptures of the Old and New Testaments were given by inspiration of God, and that they only constitute the Divine rule of Christian faith and practice.

What this basically means is that the Bible always has the final say. Unfortunately Humans have a tendency to screw up and you will always find people who (deliberately or unknowingly) misinterpret things.

LRP, my friend, you may not know of the religion explained above. I thought you'd like to know.

Thanks. Haven't heard of that denomination before.

Interesting. Though definitely something I don't and wont adhere to :P

I still haven't found a clear moniker for my beliefs...

I used to be a biblical-literalist and a young earth creationist, but that was a long time ago, now I think the closest title for me is Theistic Rationalism; Conyers Middleton is the philosopher I can best relate with.

It would take a book to describe my exact opinions, but let's say I'm about as far from traditional Christian as one can be without crossing into deism.

I'm of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, also known commonly as LDS or Mormon. Raised in the church, and although activity has varied somewhat in the past, I'm proud to be one.

I'm probably not going to write an essay about why I believe what I believe, just that so far it is one of the most logical of all the religions I've seen. And I can gladly answer most questions about it if you want.

  • Haughty eyes, Check
  • Lying tongue, Check
  • Hands that shed innocent blood, Check
  • A heart that devises wicked schemes, Muhahahah Check
  • Feet that rush off to do evil, Check
  • A false witness that pours out lies, Check
  • A man who stirs up dissension among brothers., Double check
Well, that and denouncing the holy spirit..... It's going to be hot down there for me :-) Edited by Gozutennou

I'm an atheist, ex-mormon. From my experience, nothing made sense, too many contradictions and intolerances. I didn't want to deal with it, so I denied religion altogether.

Except Martin Luther believed in infant baptism, too. Lutherans practice infant baptism today. Also, Luther wanted to reform the Catholic Church, not start a new denomination.

"Your beliefs make less sense than mine" is judging. Perhaps it's not judging my person, but it is judging the belief system.

My reasons for being Catholic will be posted here eventually... I'm just procrastinating. :V
