What do you think will happen now that Derpy has had her name said as Derpy and she has talked, what will happen. Will Derpy talk more? Will Derpy become even more valuable to the show? Will the people who write the show include Derpy more? Will little girls know what DERP means? What is going to happen next?!?

If she were to just go back to being the Easter Egg that'd be great! If they went as far to include her speaking in every other episode then the new episode would lose it's magic and that moment would be less special to the fans!

We like the show because they make it, not because the bronies make it.

If I had to guess, I'd say she may have a few more lines in the future, but probably won't be speaking with any regularity.

Nah, I don't think it will. But I do hope Derpy has some more appearances and talks more. Now I wouldn't want her talking in every episode, but like occasionally would be fine. I do want more "problems" caused by her though.

I don't think a lot of girls get what "derp" means. Hell I didn't until I watched the show! As for changing things, I think this was just a VERY generous nod to our fandom and they wont alter the formula too much by including her character more. If it aint' broke, don't fix it, right?

I hope there arn't too many butthurt bronies about this. You can't please everypony, and I wouldn't be too worried about children finding out what "derp" means. It doesn't even have a bad connotation, especially compared to what they hear in school.

I bet they'll throw her in now and then just to get a reaction from the fans but I think they'll keep her as a backgroundpony more than anything. I honestly wouldn't mind seeing/hearing some more from Derpy, so long as they don't make it a big deal and shove it in your face every episode...that might get old fast.

Hard to say. I think that, at least in terms of fan participation and influence, Derpy's recognition as an actual character, with name and all, does mean something. It's not typical at all to see a show recognize a fan name for a background character and promote her into an actual character, let alone for it to be a show like MLP FIM!

 

The influence we as a community--all pony fans I mean--have on the show is evident. I believe, however, we shouldn't expect too much. While we might see Lyra and Bon-Bon show up together in the background more often, we're not likely to see them have any real lines or be named on screen, nor can we expect Derpy to turn into a major character. As others have suggested, I think she'll end up being like Mayor Mare, mostly showing up in token amounts.

 

Still, if she proves anything, it's that we can change the way this show works. It's a power we must weild with care.

Amen, let's just hope that everypony realises this and that the creators take the passion of the fandom with a pinch of salt and just keep doing what they have been doing..... which is making an incredible show that anypony can enjoy.

I loved seeing Derpy get a bit of a feature! She acted pretty much how I always imagined. She didn't come off as mentally challanged to me. She's just very eager to help, but quite accident prone. This is actually to be expected from someone with her ocular condition. I have a problem with depth perception and some accompanying double vision, (My eyes appear perfectly normal though!) and it actually caused me to fall down a full flight of stairs once. Spent all day at the ER after that! Last weekend I tripped over a section of curbing that was higher then standard in my town, and I fell and ripped my leggings and got a bloody knee. I can't begin to tell you how many times I've gone to pick something up, and actually missed the item by inches! Having vision problems does not equal mentally challanged! .

 

In all honesty, I hadn't even heard of Derp or Derpy until I started watching ponies. I gather it's an insult, but I never saw it used anywhere.

 

I just paused to google derp. No wonder I never heard of it. I never saw "Baseketball" or watched "Southpark".

 

I just realized I'm identifying with a cartoon character and sticking up for her...

It seems as though this episode marks the point in which production at DHX took a major notice in the community. Since episodes are in production and storyboarded wayyyy in advance, this may have been the first chance they got to plan out a whole derp scene before animation and finalization. Honestly it'd be cool to see more of derp without having her whole characterization overdone. I have a feeling future episodes will have more shoutouts to the fanbase in general, since this is the first major scene due to fan influence in the episodes production timeline.
