Do You Like a Pony for a Reason No One Else Seems To?

'Ello!

I do apologize if this exists, search did not find anything.

So, I find I like a few ponies for reasons no one else seems to. For example, my favorite pony.

For those of you who didn't know, I'm somewhat obsessed with Trixie. However, there is only one reason I like her. And no one else has brought this up, so, this, of which is on my profile as well.

While most people seem to like Trixie for her design, I like her because she is one of the two characters of anything ever I actually feel compassion towards. Now, why on Earth would I feel bad for Trixie? Well, first look at what a cutie mark is. Hopefully the season finale explains this a bit better, but it is basically your destiny, your destiny is basically what you have to accomplish in your life. Personally, I find that quite scary. As your cutie mark is something you don't know until a certain point, but you are technically born with, unless you are the element of magic of course, and keep your cutie mark your entire life.

So, in Trixie's case, you have a unicorn who is destined to do show magic, non-powerful flashy magic. So when the mane 6 were basically idiots and tried to upstage her while she was preforming, her correct response was exactly what she told them to do. Get the buck of my stage, I'm trying to make a living here. Of course, Snips and Snails were idiots and blah blah blah, in result, everyone hates Trixie. Now what is she supposed to do? She can't do what her cutie mark implies because everyone hates her. So she can't make a good living. Can she get a job? Not easily, because her cutie mark does not imply she can do that well. Try again from scratch? She enslaved a whole town so good luck with that.

In short, nothing. So that makes me sad. Which makes Trixie, best pony, in my opinion of course. :P

So thoughts? Generally these sort of things get me to like a pony more. Please note, these things should be canon, not fanon. I don't really like fanon too much. :P

And discussion, go!

Hmm. In the past few months, I've discovered myself to be a closeted Rarity fan. While some people dislike her because of her drama or "bitchyness". I strangely seem to like it. She's someone that I would tease because of things like that. The camping episode with Scootaloo is an example, I would tease every single aspect of all the camping gear she brought, compared to what I would bring (not much).

It's hard to put into words, but I like Rarity's rather feisty attitude for some reason.

That's a pretty good point.. I liked Trixie mainly because of her wholesome character. Fluttershy is one of course, I simply love how adorable & soft her eyes are as well as the color. I think the combo of pink & yellow isn't used often which is really nice. When I mean yellow. I don't mean this kind that rapes your eyes. but rather gentle and soothing. I also like a characteristic that she doesn't fly often, being a Pegasus. As for a fact no one bothers to mention? Her passion for animals, I love animals of all kinds even some most girls would find disgusting. Like rats & pythons and such, she always sticks to her feelings as an individual. Also her voice is just the sweetest thing. xP

Yay~ <3

Yeah, Rarity.

Rarity is one of those ponies people like because she's a drama queen and she's cute (at least, most Rarity fans I've met think that.) I love Rarity because she's, to me, insecure underneath. She exudes self-confidence and is beautiful, but when she's told that she isn't perfect in some way she proceeds to have her version of a mental breakdown. I can relate to her the most since I struggle with appearance and body image (I had a eating disorder for the longest time.)

Well, while my favourite pony from the Mane 6 is Fluttershy, my TRUE favourite of all the ponies is...

Applebloom!

Why?

She is exactly like me. In school, no-one really likes her except her one friend she has, no one listens to her when she has something good to say, and she's denied all right to go out on any adventures by her elders. She's a strong, young, misunderstood pony, and she doesn't have too many friends, and I can relate exactly the same way with her. Some of these things come naturally due to her age, but she is excluded from a lot of things, and those two uptight ponies who make fun of her consistently really pissed me off as much as they pissed off Applebloom. She wants to go out and have fun, but everyone denies her that right and she eventually just gives up on it and stays home instead. But sometimes, that changes and she goes out on some adventures :P

Really, Applebloom is one underestimated pony, and I can't see why more people like her. I mean, come on, she's a great character, but no-one goddamn listens to her. And it's exactly the same case for me, always has been, and most likely always will. Surprisingly, in the same way she hasn't found her true talent yet, neither have I. She IS good at renovating, and I'm particularly good at art and mathematics, but I haven't found anything which I know I want to do, and it really sucks, because EVERYONE ELSE HAS.

She's so much like me, and that is why she is truly my favourite pony.

I like Celestia because she is often forced to make decisions that no one else is willing to. I am just like that, so i suppose that's one reason I like her so much.

I like Celestia because of this, and the fact she seems like she wants to have fun, though can't because of her position. The only problem with that is that it's been done to death. While it makes me like her more then the other princesses (Why does everyone like Luna so much anyways?) I can think of a few other characters like her, maybe not by name. :P

Luna appeared in, give or take, one episode. So it beats me why everyone likes her, it makes no sense, she has absolutely zero character development, not to say I don't like her, I do, but she is kinda overrated.

I like Rarity for a multitude of reasons and a lot of those reasons are pointed out and common like her beauty, attention to detail, contrast in character ect ect.

But I think a rare reason why I like her is how she deals with Spike. Sure she kind leads him on a little bit and doesn't exactly deny him, but she truly values him more than most of her friends. While she occasionally throws around the Spikey-Wikey here or there, she treats him the least like an annoying little brother like AJ and Twilight tend to do. I guess I respond to this because I was the little brother and the youngest cousin on my dad's side growing up so I was instantly identified as an annoyance to my siblings. There were a few time though, where my one cousin would actually listen to me and treat my opinions like a person she was level with. I really respected that and I see that kind of kindness in Rarity.

I can't for certain say that no one else has this reason for liking her but my favorite is Pinkie Pie.

Other than the fact that she really does act like me (less extreme of course I can't make my eye bulge etc), I like her for the personality or rather the implied personality.

What I mean by that is that Pinkie has demonstrated a dark side a few times, usually through depression. I'm not saying I  like the Pinkamenia persona but it shows a level of depth that you don't often see. It also follows that old saying about comedians always having a darker more serious side.

There is also the question of her intelligence, its obvious she's not stupid, but she seems to have knowledge that others don't, like the parasprites that not even Celestia, a being thats lived over 1000 years, has heard of.

She's a mystery to me, much more so than the other characters.

After that I'd say my next favorite is Spike, I know... not a pony.

The reasoning for that is quite simple, he has a honour code. I too have one, admittedly its not written on a card but I still have one. Also I always think of him as a well meaning underdog.

My love for Rarity needs no explanation, but plenty of people seem to like her anyway.

I guess a pony I kind of like that not many others do is Diamond Tiara. I find her to be 'adorably bitchy,' excuse my french. She's like your typical bossy bully character, but in cute pony filly form, and after Ponyville Confidential(most certainly her shining episode), I think she has a strange sort of charm that I like for some reason. :)

I like Rarity because she is smart, clever, funny, and caring. Most people seem to focus on her stuck up attitude she portrays most of the time, but A Dog and Pony Show sealed my fondness for her. I just love how she outwits those Diamond Dogs.

AJ, I really like how down to earth, honest, hard worker, and mature she is. All of that seems to be the reason most people write her off and say she isn't interesting and is a "background pony". I've said it before and I'll say it again, IMO human AJ would equal best girlfriend ever. Don't take that any kind of weird ways... I'm not attracted to the cartoon ponies or sitting back doing, well *ahem* won't go there.

Well I'm glad that I'm not the only person around here who thinks that

Well other than Trixie

A different character

That I like for reasons

That no one else understands

Is Scootaloo

She is my favorite pony

Because I find her to be the cutest of them all

Her voice sounds so good with her personality

And I love it how she always looks up to RD

It's such an adorable trait when someone looks up

At someone else like that

Another thing that makes me like her so much

Is that she's simplistic but done in a nice way

She doesn't really have an evolving and compelling backstory to her

Which I find helps me think of the character even more

Especially when it's from a kid's cartoon

She's one of the most simplistic characters

Done in the best possible format

I just wish she wasn't really under rated

That's actually the reason I don't like Scoots. :P She has enough screen time to be developed, yet isn't. It seems some 1 episode or 2 episode ponies have more development then her.

It does seem quite ridiculous

But when you think of it

That's a hard thing to pull off

With a character for so long

They even had a whole episode

About her and she still hasn't

Gone through any major developments

I think the most unusual reason I like Pinkie Pie is that she is a well-written character. They all are, but Pinkie stands out to me because, while she lives to make other ponies happy / enjoy their company as much as possible, she's extremely fragile. If she is denied the only thing that makes her happy (the company of others), she cracks. Real people are like that. Not everyone is perfectly emotionally stable, and whether you or I like that quality about her or not, that's an element of a well-thought-out character. IE, good writing. Which is my most favorite thing on this earth.

Not only is her mental health quirk good writing, but she's goofy without being horrendously stupid. She has her... uh, own way of doing things. Sometimes, her actions don't make sense. But, as someone else pointed out earlier in the thread, she isn't an idiot. That is pretty uncommon in cartoons. Characters like Ed from Ed, Edd, and Eddy; Spongebob from, um, Spongebob; Buster from Arthur... they're goofy, fun-loving characters who do "random" things for humor value. They're also all fairly empty-headed. Pinkie Pie is not, which, in my opinion, makes her a better-written character than most comedic relief characters. 'Dat writing. B)

I love Rainbow Dash because

She is such an arrogant braggart who acts like an insensitive jerk. I love characters who are insecure, characters who try to create a ridiculous image that they could never maintain, characters who can pinpoint a million different traits about themselves and none of them truly matter... And Rainbow Dash is definitely one of those types. Perhaps it is a reflection upon my own fears that I find characters worried about their image to be so sympathetic and fascinating. The reason why I was such a fan of The Mysterious Mare Do Well was the very critical and actually rather dark look at Rainbow Dash's insecurity and need for validation.

Rainbow Dash also comes across as insensitive, but Hurricane Fluttershy and Sleepless In Ponyville show that she is actually a very kind hearted pegasus. Is this another case where I find this to be an interesting trait because I can relate it to myself? Certainly I have difficulty expressing serious emotions outwardly. I like that Rainbow Dash often isn't mean because she is mean, but because she has no idea how she is making the other person feel.

I love Applejack because (among other, less well thought out reasons)

Applejack has plenty of personal issues and conflicts, and all of them are very sympathetic and form a character that feels like a real person. Applejack has impossible expectations for herself (just like Twilight, but nopony ever mentions that Twilight and Applejack share this trait when trying to describe Applejack's "short list" of issues!) and an almost comedic belief that everyone will hate her if she disappoints in even the slightest. Twilight is mostly afraid of Princess Celestia. Applejack thinks all eyes are on her. That's already material for a fascinating character. But then you add in that Applejack's parents are 99.9999999999999% confirmed to be dead, and the amount of "this makes so much sense" goes over the roof. In fact, it made so much sense that I actually subscribed to the notion before Apple Family Reunion was ever announced. Applejack has this ludicrous amount of responsibility that she places upon herself because she never really got a chance to be a filly. All of my wubs go to Applejack here.  :(

Uh.. I don't really know. I like Fluttershy, but I'm sure alot of people like her for reasons similar to mine, I like her for my ablity to relate to her, and I guess I could say she is the first pony I ever saw a clip of from the show.

Actually I got a good one.

My 2nd favorite pony is Twilight, but for a somewhat different relatable way that isn't really as present in her as alot of her is.

I like her because of many reasons, but one is because I can kinda relate to her when she is all new to the friendship thing and is somewhat of a loner for a while, and even when she starts trying to make friends shes kinda awkward about it sometimes.

I can kinda relate to her because I use to be homeschooled up until I was starting 8th grade year, then I started public school and I was just kinda hanging around as a loner, I was also not really well aware of many of the basic things that everyone in public school knows and does, so I was a bit awkward about some things I guess. I guess I'm still not really that much of a friendship expert or anything, but I've got better about it.

Everytime I watch the 1st episode she reminds me of my first day of public school, and myself.

Alright I think that nobody is going to have the EXACT same reason for liking twilight as me, of course she isn't my favorite pony, but I like everypony so I hope that counts :).(She is my 2nd favorite anyways :D )

Not sure why everpony is spoilering their responses, so I am just not going to do that.

I love Rainbow Dash because she embodies the ideology of the athlete, not just because she is an arrogant rainbow colored pony.

Constant self pressure, confidence brimming from every pore, a clear challenge to be met.

It is a trait these "Rainbow Dash fans" could never understand

One of the reasons why I love Rarity is one that I've never really heard from others. A lot of people like her because she's cute and stylish, enjoy her overdramatic antics, or what have you.

Me? I like the unique blend of aspects to her personality- she's egotistical and vain, yet *generous*. That's a combination of attributes that you *never* see, and frankly think would be impossible. But she makes it work. She wants to enjoy and take part in the best things in life, but she also share that experience with others. Take Suited for Success for instance. She not only wanted to make a gorgeous dress for herself, she wanted to make gorgeous dresses for all of her friends, so they could all go into the gala looking awesome. Even further, she went all out to make sure they were happy with their outfits, against her better judgment.

And she's not perfect about it-there are times when she does seem to put herself above others, but she struggles with it (Sweet and Elite) and rather than detracting from her element, it adds to her character. Plus her generosity balances out her egotism and vanity so that when it does seem to be all about herself, there's kind of an innocence to it. She's not doing it maliciously, she's just not really thinking it through.

You would get along very very well with the same friends that introduced me to ponies, he is a huge Zecora fan and I like her too though not as much as he does. I tried to get him on this forum but he dosen't really like the 100 character minimum rule all that much though every now and then he will lurk on here under the name Inazuma.

It didn't take long for Applejack to become my favorite pony, I noticed alot of people don't like her or like her but not as much as the other Mane 6 characters because she is perceived to be a "boring" character. Sure she is not as hyperactive as Pinkie Pie, as overly dramatic as Rarity, dosen't have the innocence of Fluttershy which many people find to be cute, the brash attitude of Rainbow Dash or the OCD like qualities of Twilight Sparkle but she is still an interesting and far too often overlooked character. I think the genius in her character is her simplicity, she is very down to earth, hard working has great values and is very charming.
