Sonic Rainboom = Flanderized!Rarity.

Rainbow Falls = Flanderized!Rarity, Annoying!Bulk, OOC!Spitfire, Hypocrite!Twilight, and AesopAmnesiac!Dash.

Well, ladies and gentlecolts...

I just came back from a funeral procession for my friend... Held on the beach, so I am sun-burned to no end.

"Time is just an illusionary factoid that all natural things are bound to. It has the power to crumble even the mightiest of mountains into little more than dust, yet if it is an illusion, why is this so? Because people waste a lot of time, only wishing they had more. Little do people realize an inescapable fact: Time governs those who wish they had more of it. By wishing you could use it better, you govern time, and you can get all the time you'll ever need." — Starfall, Quillwaver

Sonic Rainboom = Flanderized!Rarity.

Actually, claiming it was "Flanderization" is VASTLY understating it.

It's very easy to grow attached to these characters - whether you're a 17 year old boy from Texas who claims one of them as his waifu, or just a regular little girl - when you play up their FLAWS (not even the humorous parts, like what happened with Flanders) enough to make a once lovable and kind-hearted character who was always overcoming the odds as well as her own personal flaws into an unlikable and antagonistic role, there's something wrong. This isn't Trixie or Diamond Tiara - this is Rarity, and there's a huge difference between her and those two characters, but you wouldn't be able to tell as much from this episode.

That's really just screwing the audience over tas well as a character - people claim to like that episode, but we all know it's for the shallow fact we got to see Dashie do a stupid Sonic Rainboom and look like a badass, which left the fandom drooling. That episode not only screwed us by doing that to Rarity, but screwed Rarity herself over.

And DON'T tell me it was development - when you have a character's flaws put up on a giant billboard and said character is made out to be a total bitch JUST to make another character look "awesome," then there's a serious problem with the writing of an episode. They took an otherwise lovable and attachable character and took one or two of her flaws and blew them out-of-proportion just to make one other character look good, and THAT is unforgivable on their part.

You just don't do that to characters, man...sure, Rainbow Falls did that, but it was no where NEAR what Sonic Rainboom did to Rarity...they used her flaws as a tool to make another character look good, and offer little to no redemption for Lady Rarity in the end, effectively making her look bad and tossing her aside for that rainbow maned pegasus' 15 minutes in the limelight...unforgivable, man -_-

You know what's kind of upsetting about Sonic Rainboom, most Rainbow Dash fanboys STILL haven't forgiven Rarity for her actions in Sonic Rainboom.

I mean she made dresses for all of the Mane 6 (WITHOUT being asked for), gave up a contest that meant a lot to her just so she could let her friends see the play, jumped in mud just to appeal to Sweetie Belle, and did all those other things Ghostie said she did a few pages back,

I mean, what the hell? What else does Rarity have to do? Come out of your TV screen and become your personal servant before you forgive her? Seriously mangs..

People here are way overstating Rarity's flanderization in Sonic Rainboom

Rarity wasn't being antagonistic or mean, she just let the attention get to her head and didn't really think things through. Which is very much in character- she always has had the tendency to get wrapped up in her own emotions. And she was very contrite afterwards and grateful to Rainbow Dash. Plus Rarity was the one who first picked up on Dash's nerves and insisted that twilight find a way to allow them to get to Cloudsdale so they could cheer her on. That she lost sight of that is not a black mark on the character. She wasn't made out to be a bitch, or mean, she just lost her head a bit.

Her behavior before nor afterwards are what I had I problem with, and yes, she volunteered herself for that spell - I brought that up on my list.

Also, you're understating her behavior in that episode -

Give my post a readthrough.

The problem was not only her behavior, but the way they used it and offered little redemption past some dialogue in a balloon. They used her and blew her flaws out of proportion in order to further another character and offer little closure to her own character, and THAT'S the reason I find this episode to be inexcusable, not just because of her behavior. The writers royally screwed up the way they handled her in this episode, enough to make her look like a bitch to the majority - keep in mind, not everyone thinks alike, and people gripe about her plenty in this episode - and as much as she means to me, I have every damn right to be upset about the way they did her in that episode.

I did give your post a read through, and still think it's all being blown out of proportion. Regardless of whether or not it was done to serve another character, if was still in character for Rarity- no malice on her part, she never intentionally tried to show up Dash, and it is fitting with her tendency to let things get to her head. And as she was not the focus of the episode she didn't need any more resolution than her apology at the end.

As far as the haters go, well, it's the old internet meme, haters gonna hate. That they just react to some surface impression on the character, well that's on them. Plenty of haters don't like her because of her behavior in Sweet and Elite. But I'm not going to let their reaction change my opinion of that episode, and I won't let it affect my opinion of her here.

I just don't think she's as bitchy as you're making her out to be in this episode.

Flaws make an interesting character, beyond a shadow of a doubt. That's one of my favorite things about Rarity.

Of course, there's having flaws and utilizing them in order to develop an interesting character, and there's using flaws for plot convience. MLP:FiM is pretty good about doing the former, but the role they had Rarity play in this episode was frankly something I cannot stomach watching - they not only made her look bad with the way they handled it going to her head, but they offered little closure to it - which was INFURIATING as well as bringing me to my next point.

And as she was not the focus of the episode she didn't need any more resolution than her apology at the end.

Even still, that doesn't mean she deserves no retribution for it. Again, the problem I find in this is the way they used her, which, was as a springboard for Dash. If they truly had a better intention for her character, it wouldn't be a small apology at the end of the episode, and, it was nothing more than an "I'm sorry, Rainbow Dash" - which, pardon my language, was bullshit.

The fact that they can create a character that's so intriguing and offer such little closure to her after just using her as a springboard for Dash's sake is disgusting to me.

I just don't think she's as bitchy as you're making her out to be in this episode.

Agreed. She wasn't too bitchy in this episode - the way she was handled was quite frankly the disgusting part, enough to make my blood boil a bit.

As I stated earlier, you shouldn't create a character with an engaging personality that people can get so easily attached to and then just use their negatives for plot convenience as they did here. That's the problem I have with this episode, and the reason I find it so unforgivably bad - that's MY best pony. That's a pony I'M attached to, that I care about, and, hell, that helps me cope with the cold, harsh truth that is reality, in a way - and they just used her flaws to make Rainbow Dash look good with her Sonic Rainboom in the end.

And the damn Icarus reference - that's just painful to me. That hurts me.

They let Rarity's flaws get the better of her in a way that embarrassed her in front of a whole crowd of people and made her look bad in front of people like Celestia and what not, all just so Dashie could overcome HER OWN fears and save her in the end...yeahh, no - I can't accept that. That's wrong to Rarity's character. They used her in a negative light for Dash, not for Rarity, and that's disgusting.

Hello, everyone. How's the Rarity today?

I saw her nearby waving out of her boutique.

Why of course, I mean, I never really "hated" Rarity or anything, and the only reason I used to hate on her so much is because of the best fliers thing, but meh, I put that aside, though Dashie is my favorite, I LOVE all the mane 6 right now, Especially after season 4!

Hello! :D I haven't seen you around as much.

I've been working a lot now that I have a job. Plus, my laptop fried and the desktop is in the basement, and I don't like spending too much time on it. It's not as comfy as using the laptop in the kitchen or in my room.

I am the OFFICIAL TROLL OF THE CLUB! Cuz she is my least favorite of the Mane Six

Implying that anyone cares.

So rarifans would you consider any of the following episodes to be Rarity Duets: Secret of My Excess, Filli Vanilli, Sweetie belle Toils, and Inspiration Manifestation.

I say they all are (sans possibly FV) as they all revolve around Rarity's relationship with the other character (either as the drive of the episode or the moral) and she is largely in focus.

All of them but Filli Vanilli should count towards her episode total - Filli Vanilli was a Fluttershy episode with Rarity playing a big role. The rest co-starred Rarity alongside one of her friends :D

It was obviously more about Fluttershy's development as a character than Rarity in any way, shape, or form :D

While the same can be said for the others, those episodes wouldn't function without Rarity in the role she played - that's not the case for FV. You could plug in Pinkie Pie or Applejack and it would've worked just the same, albeit with a different pony in the place of Rarity - I loved Rarity in that episode, but it could've functioned with a different pony in the same role.

The others couldn't, of course - Rarity, albeit unintentionally and despite having her sister's best interests at heart - brought on the conflict for FWtSBT. In Secret of My Excess, she brought Spike back down to regularity - Spike didn't care for the others the same way he cared for her, so it wouldn't have worked. Keep in mind she also had an earlier part in that episode as well. Of course, IM was obviously focused on her as she was the subject of the curse and had a LARGE amount of focus on her, even if it was more of a Spike-development episode :D
