gaming LSD: Dream Emulator Discussion Thread

LSD (It stands for Linked Sapien Dream) : Dream Emulator is an obscure and rather creepy game that was released in Japan a while back. Since while the game is kind of obscure but it's popular for it's disturbing imagery, I thought we should have a thread to talk about it.

Mostly, I opened this thread so that we could collectively gather things we know about it, as well as make speculations about the game.

I haven't gathered too much info besides what everyone knows about it, but I don't know much in the way of specifics. I know that Japan's rating authorities rated it a D (The equivalent of M in ERSB) so it's rated 17 and over. It's almost impossible to come across copies of it since it's so obscure and was only released in Japan.

So let's discuss it.

Never heard of it, honestly. :P Sounds pretty interesting. Maybe we will have a game that's actually scary, instead of a sandbox where you walk around in a forest?  :o

Is there going to be a North American release?

No, the game was released way back for PS1. The game is scary, not because of shock horror but because of it's weird nature. It's based on the dream journal of it's creator, and as you progress, the game gets crazier and crazier. It starts out relatively normal but eventually things happen like the walls having eyes the follow you.

If you want to see some of it, here's someone playing it, I've played it but I haven't took the time to record it.

Lots of people do videos of it, the game is generally scary on a physcological level. The game is so trippy and unusual that it's a common joke to say it's based on the drug LSD. Most people who play it do it on an emulator since it's extremely rare to find a physical copy of it.

This game's great. I played it a few years back and the overall atmosphere was just incredible. I didn't think it was scary at all, but man oh man was it trippy.

Just editing my signature to say that my behavior on here was cringe. I don't regret the friends i made but man i was cringe here

My friend had this on his PSP (don't ask how), and I played it for about an hour a couple of years ago. And it is strangely addicting, even though you only walk around.

It also gave me really weird dreams.

I remember the first time I played the game: I was in this massive area. The sky was black, the floor was checkerboard pink and purple. Nothing else in sight. So I just started walking, and eventually I came to a HUGE square hole in the ground. I stared down into the hole, contemplating jumping in, when something arose from its depths.

A massive cooked turkey, with its legs swinging madly back and forth. And it just kept rising and rising, up into the black sky...then another one appeared from the hole. And another. And another.

I've never laughed so hard in my life.

What's with your sudden interest in creepy games?

Anyway, I've never heard of this game, although it does sound pretty interesting. Do you know where I could get a ROM or whatever of the game so I could possibly play it for myself?

Alledged it's been released on the Playstation Network, but whether or not it's available outside Japan is a whole other story. Someone should definitely make a modern succesor to this for XBLA, PSN, or Steam.

Oh, this is that creepy game with the guy that stalks you everywhere. I saw a bit of the gameplay, looks trippy (obviously) at first, then morphs into some surreal horror type thing. I'm not into horror, I'm a huge Scootlaoo.

Somehow I have a feeling that a modern version would lack the creepiness associated the original game. The fact the game is old and full of polygons actually contributes to the creepiness in my opinion.

This game I'm too scared to even touch

I have a fear of anything that's unrepeatitive

Things that are unpredictable and things

That I don't have knowledge on

Unpredictable:

You don't know where you're gonna go

and what will happen during the game

Unrepetitive:

The game itself changes things in each area

So that's another big no for me

Have no knowledge:

And that creepy Greyman....oh goodness

He freaks me out with the fact of how he just follows you around

He doesn't say anything, he doesn't even try to kill you or do anything like that

Maybe I might try it out sometime

But if I do then I'll probably be

Scared for quite a long time

really want to play this now. I guess the problem is that it doesnt exist in the U.S. and there is no way to get it. It looks fun to play when your bored or on something. The reaction videos are hilarious.

I find it really creepy. With The Grey Man and Violence Avenue and the really unusual theories behind the development of the game.. It's just sounded like a really odd experience. I would try it, but I'm not in the mood to have nightmares this week.

Why not emulators? I could link you a ROM to use, but I'm not sure if I would be allowed to on here.

So I recently redownloaded this and played it again. I'm finding it somewhat boring, yet I find it strangely addicting for some reason. The game switches up the graphics on everything all the time, so you pretty much never go to the same place. It's not overly scary, but the game's random and strange nature is pretty creepy. It got the Japanese equivalent of the ESRB's M rating. I can see why,  but it's not overly violent. I'd tell you the cases that do involve some violence, but I'd much rather have you go play the game yourself. ;)

If you need a good emulator, ePSXe is very good for the task. I would recommend MotioninJoy for linking a PS3 controller to your computer.

JoyTokey is the best joy pad software, it supports EVERY type of gamepad. It's pretty good, in my opinion. Plus it's simple and also free.
