Looks like a lot of mindless action and a clichéd plot. Not my cup of tea.
It's probably gonna be just another Transformers.
I've never been a fan of any Kaiju or Sentai series, so I probably wouldn't understand this film, anyway.

So I saw Pacific Rim yesterday in 3D, and I just wanted to come in here to say this one thing:

This movie. Was. FUCKING. SICK!!!!!

I don't know about you guys, but I go to the movies to be entertained. And holy shit, was I entertained! Who doesn't love giant robots duking it out against giant monsters?

And it's not just giant robots kicking the shit out of giant aliens - the aliens actually fight back and kick our asses too, and there's more to them than meets the eye (trying to keep it as spoiler-light as possible here).

Even in the interlude between the giant robit fights, there's action and stuff in the in-between too. As I've said elsewhere, this movie was Avatar (not the last airbender, that movie was horrid) epic, sans the stupid romance crap. There was a teensy-weensy bit in Pacific Rim, but the director realized that action and romance sort of don't mix and stuck with the big guns (literally). I never felt like there wasn't much going on. Maybe I don't have a good sense of what makes a fuckin' awesome movie, but this was a fuckin' awesome movie.

My mom and I went into the theater not knowing anything about the movie other than "giant robits vs. giant monsters." We didn't know a damn thing about kaijus or whatever else is common to this genre. We saw the trailers, thought it looked cool, and went in based off recommendations from my friends, which consisted of "IT WAS FUCKING RAD, DUDE!"

Also, if it's not too much more expensive in your area, see it in 3D. Go big or go home. Not much gaming for 3D shots, either, so if you can't afford 3D, it's not too much of a problem.

Metacritic also gave this movie a 65/100. That's actually pretty great, considering Man of Steel got a 55, and Star Trek: Into Darkness got a 72. World War Z got a 63.

If you were waiting on a movie to see this summer, and/or like really awesome special effects, and/or like giant robit fights, THIS is the movie to see.

Saw this Movie, 4 hours ago....

Epic. As. Hell!

Jaegers, just awesome. Did anyone else think the Russians one looked like the big daddy from Bioshock 2?

The monsters, freaking spectacular, very Godzilla reminiscent whilst still being able to look original and creepy

The actors, all top notch, Idris Elba and Burn Gorman were my standout performances

The themes of teaming up as a species, despite creeds and nationalities was great (British+American, America+Japanese, British+Australian, etc) it showed how we really need to pull together as a species (love and tolerance guys x3)

Btw, I'm sure I saw a Doctor Who subtext, Alot of the scientists were wearing variations combinations of the 11th doctors outfit (BowTies, blue shirts, braces/suspenders, tweed jackets, etc) Gueirllmo Del Toro a secret Whovian? Lol

It was brilliant, just loved it!

P.S. Ellen McClain as the Jaeger AIs, what's not to love about that? (Literal quote from the film; "Would you like to try the test again?" XD)

P.S.S. as there was a Unicorn inspired armour in Halo 4, do you think their should be a Pony/Unicorn inspired Jaeger? I think that would be AWESOME!!!!!!!! XD haha

I went into this movie expecting a typical summer action flick. What I got instead was a jaw dropping megazord vs terrasque slug fest mixed in with actual plot and character development. I especially enjoyed all the subtle video game and anime references they tossed us. There may have been a dragon. And a giant crab.

Oh, and they broke physics and used a cargo ship as a sword. And it was awesome.

I saw it yesterday in 3D and I loved it! I thought the Jaegers were so cool my favorite was probably the Russian one. I liked the characters as well.

If you love action films then I recommend you go see it you won't be disappointed!

There are some minor spoilers in my post. Don't read if you want to go in with a super fresh experience.

Saw this movie last night. Definitely worth checking out, even if you're not into sci-fi. When I saw the trailer a while back, I wasn't too impressed. It looked like a cliche action movie, but it turned out to be very enjoyable and memorable. You could definitely notice some influence from other sci-fi titles in the movie, but it still ended up maintaining its originality pretty well.

I really liked the cast. I'm a pretty big fan of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, so seeing Charlie Day in it was AWESOME. His role was somewhat serious, but he still had that signature Charlie Kelly flair in the movie :P His character added a lot of much-needed humor to the movie as a break from all of the action sequences. I also think Idris Elba is an awesome actor, and he definitely did a great job portraying his character in the movie. I didn't really know much about the other actors, but they all did a pretty solid job. The voice actor for Portal's GLaDOS was also in it, which was pretty cool.

The movie itself was really good. The effects were amazing (kind of wish I saw it in IMAX 3D), and the story was also really interesting. One thing I really liked was how humanity had a very hard time against the enemy. In most movies it seems that the good guys always win by a landslide, but in this one you'll notice that the humans take a huge beating in the movie. It was also unpredictable at times, which was pretty enjoyable.

Pacific Rim is entertaining from start to finish, and gives you exactly what you came in for: an action-packed sci-fi thriller that has giant robots fighting gargantuan creatures. It may sound like all of the entertainment comes from the action, but the story is actually quite good as well. Make sure to go see it if you can!

I like the concept but I don't think Pacific Rim will be that great of a movie. I wasn't planning on seeing it until I watched a video uploaded by Youtubes The Switcher (Two best friends play) about how it important to support original movies and that by supporting it you're kind of investing in Mecha movie for the future. Which hopefully will be a bit better.

Now, let me start by saying I've never been a fan of the mecha or kaiju stuff. I mean, I loved Transformers and Godzilla was cool, but I wasn't super interested in either genre. However, me and some buds of mine saw Pacific Rim in 3D a few nights ago, and, for a person who knew lots of the shoutouts and references were whizzing right over my head to cater to the fans of the mecha and kaiju stuff, I still really liked the movie! The action was good, the premise, while totally ludicrous, was enjoyable, and it didn't get bogged down in misplaced romance. For what it was, an explosive action movie, it was great, and a tad smarter than the average action flick. It had a bit more substance, and I highly recommend everyone see it!

I'll be honest, I haven't seen Pacific Rim. I can't bring myself to watch it. I usually like Guillermo Del Toro's films but it looks like he finally got hold of a large budget and went completely apeshit, making a mainstream sci-fi movie complete with a Michael Bay level of explosions.

Coolest. Movie. EVER. I can't even DESCRIBE how I felt after Monday night when I went to see it. Agreeing with above posts, PLEASE, we need a true live action Gundam movie now. Oh. Right. This topic is about Pacific Rim. My bad.

I just...wow. Giant robots and alien creatures coming out of a rift on the seafloor? Fillies and gentlecolts, I can't describe this movie any other way besides this. After all the mecha anime I've watched, all I can describe it as is a darker, grittier Shinkon Gattai Godannar with no fanservice and Evangelion neural tech. Guillermo Del Toro played this off in the best way possible, and I'm DEFINITELY grabbing the Blu-Ray.

I saw the movie on Saturday. All I can say is that if you like giant robots, it's definitely worth checking out. I'd go as far as to say that it should be a requirement

It was good. Still a movie made just to entertain, but if all entertainment movies were like this I would be less skeptical about blockbusters and on average more entertained...also I would go to the cinema more often. It is of course a movie that must be seen in a cinema, because it's very visual: but it's visual in del Toro's way, which means aesthetically astonishing. The Mako's flashback scene is maybe the most beautiful scene I have seen recently in movies.

If I had seen Pacific Rim when I was I child it would have probably become my favourite movie.

I was just disappointed by the "dinosaurs" thing. That was just stupid.

I watched Pacific Rim the other day. My god. Probably one of the best movies I've seen this year. I would dare say that this is better than Elysium. So, who else here has seen it, and who else thought it was epic? Here's one last question: what was your favorite Kaiju?

I enjoyed the idea immensely. The movement of the Kaiju and Jaegers looked quite realistic, not moving too fast, like in Michael Bay's Transformers movies. You actually got a sense that they were real, and not just CGI. The only gripe I have with it is that the

Russian couple and Chinese triplets got absolutely no character development, so not only was it entirely predictable that they would die, but it also meant that you didn't really feel much for them when it happened. If they had developed those characters, it would have been much more emotional to see them get killed.

[/sPoILER]

Favorite Kaiju:

The category 5 one at the end, for certain. It took an arrow in the knee a nuclear explosion to the face and came out fighting. Hard core.

I did a review on it when it came out!

Yeah it is awesome! It has a lot more substance to it then some of the other films like it, and I actually like and care about the characters a but more.

I agree with people, it almost felt realistic, I can imagine having massive robots defending the earth in the future!

Btw the producer is now making a Godzilla remake, which it's anywhere near as good as this I will be awesome!

Lol. I forgot to mention my favorite Kaiju. It would have to be either Otachi (the flying one), Leatherback (CHECK IT'S PULSE!), or the category 5 one at the end (I forget it's designation/name).

I pretty much agree with Honest Trailers's appraisal of it: It's either the dumbest "awesome movie" ever made, or the most awesome "dumb movie" ever made. Either way, I certainly don't watch it for the story, but rather to feed the 9-year-old in me who wants to see giant robots beat the shit out of giant monsters.

I enjoyed it, but it's not something I was that big of a fan of it. What I really hated was they spent all this time setting up the Russians and Chinese mechs to just have them each killed off in about five minutes. What a jip. I wanted to see the Russian one clobber a Kaiju into the ground with it's ultra super killalot fist.
