Sometimes, there's a part of me that regrets not buying G1 ponies as a kid.

Although I saw and loved one G1 episode as a kid, and although I love all generations now, I joined this fandom due to when I saw FIM.  I was kind of kept away from MLP as a kid, but looking back on it, it's something I would have loved back then.

I have been looking at My Little Wiki at the older toys, and while I was never that interested in toys, even for FIM (mostly because I'm past playing with toys, and have no time to do so), seeing the quality of the G1 toys, I am actually sorry I wasn't a fan of MLP earlier, as they really look like the kind of toys I would have loved to collect.  For a start, they actually look like the ponies from the show (most of the FIM toys don't look right in my eyes), and they come with a little story that can be used to help fuel your imagination, for some reason, I just find that cool, and it makes me feel young again to know that.  G1 had so many toys, and they all just looked like they had the most potential to me, and I would have loved to have grown up with them.  G2 toys look okay, but G1 had more to them, and while I love G3 on TV the toys had less effort to them, and the "story" was just a quick description of the pony.  To make matters worst, by G3.5 it was just the Core 7 being re-released with very minor updates.  For a company that is frequently accused by its haters of "only caring about selling toys" Hasbro made some very bad choices when it sold toys in the end...

Sorry about my fake nostalgia there...

What do you get if you take the adventurous element, and good vs. evil storylines of Generation 1, reintroduce some abandoned storylines, that only happened with the toys, add the lessons of life elements from My Little Pony Tales, and the adorableness, and fantasy element from Generation 3, use the type of personalities of ponies used in all generations, and put them together using a true fan's perspective?

I like the G2 ponies , something about their longer thinner legs makes them look pretty and their jewel eyes. I had only one G2 from when I was younger because I could buy more of other brand (realistic) horse toys/models.

Looking at collector guides there are a lot of cool colored G3s.

I also now want all gen plushie ponies ....

I feel you! I'm the exact same way. I've actually started collecting G1s, because the toys have so much more variety, quality, and personality. And they more closely resemble real ponies, which is always nice :P

Being born in '89 I kinda got the short end of the stick.

I adored reruns of both of the MLP cartoons as a kid (the original and Tales) and even had a couple of pony toys. I wanted more pony toys so badly, but they where impossible to find by that point.

I missed the height of the MLP craze in the 80's and I didn't realize there was an attempt to reboot it in the late 90's until more recent. I wanted to get some of the G3 ponies when they where in stores as they looked so much like the ones from the cartoons I loved as a kid, but I ended up spending what little money I had on things I liked even more. G3.5? I hated the designs of those things ever since I laid eyes on them. Blech.

As of now I've been finding myself collecting the G4 toys. Not just because I love G4, but out of lost nostalgia. Finally, after all these years I finally have my hands on the pony toys I wanted so badly as a child.

I plan to start collecting some of the other Gens once I have more money to burn...

So yes, I know that feeling as well.
