"my name is Magnus, the champion of many cities across the empire, and soon to be champion of this one, then all will know my name" he said, he almost fell but caught himself "i think i will rest before i do anythings, ive already had a long day" he started flying twords the temple

Scroll looked on from afar, his curiosity peaking. They seemed to be looking for someone or something. This put him on guard. By the looks of it, it was something quite dire. He prepared for the worst, and approached a crowd of guards. 

 

"Excuse me, but what is all of this commotion about?" Scroll asked.

The smell of death and distruction unnerved Glory, she did the only thing that she could think of to do; consult the goddess. At the alter, Glory laid out another offering and closed her eyes.

 

"Oh great goddess Vesta," she murmured. "Send me word of what is happening, and assure me that the temple is safe."

 

A vision came to Glory of a scarred griffon rampaging about the palace, slaying guards, cutting them down like ninepins. She gasped, but was reassured by a following vision of the temple being clothed in protection. Glory stepped away from the alter and concentrated. She knew what she had to do now; the goddess would give her the extra power needed to protect the temple from interference. Her horn glowed with its magic aura as Glory performed a spell of protection which would disallow anypony with evil intent from entering her temple.

 

Once this was done, she went to check on the refugees. She was worried when she saw that one was missing, the dark grey unicorn mare. Glory sensed that the unicorn had gone to offer protection against the evil griffon, and that she was safe, and the worry lifted somewhat. She said to the others, "Do not be alarmed. There is trouble and great evil outside of these walls, but inside of them you are safe. The goddess will protect everypony inside the temple as long as they remain inside."

(Since Gladius isn't currently with any of the other guards, I'm going to assume you're not addressing him.)

 

One of the guards turned around.

 

"There's been a disaster at the palace; over a dozen guards dead, and the captain of the guard severely injured. Lieutenant Gladius is the only one who could tell you much more than that; he was there himself."

"Could you point me to this Gladius? I'd like to speak with him personally, if he knows what's going on." 

 

"Finally, some action!" Scroll thought. Scroll had been bored with his studies for quite some time now, and this could be just what he needed. Dangerous, sure. But also quite exciting.

Diamond made her way onto the castle grounds and grimaced at the sight.

She stepped passed the bodies of dead guards...including the guard who had been escorting her before Gladius.

Her lip quivered and she ran into the palace, not wanting to be around the dead any longer. She ran into her study and slammed the door.

She walked over to her desk put her head in her hooves and began to cry, thinking about the soldiers and their families.

Magnus landed (almost crashed) in front of the temple, he walked up the stairs and entered, he picked up the gear he left on the floor and looked for a place to lay down and rest for a bit, he found a room out side and away from the main room, he laid down his shield and took his helmet off, he rested his head on his shield and rested his eyes

Gladius, hearing his name, flew over to approach the newcomer.

 

"I'm Gladius, are you looking for me? Because as I've been telling other ponies, the city is very dangerous right now, and I'm in a rather difficult position trying to keep things under control. Anyway, what do you need?"

"The specifics of what exactly is going on here. If the city really is dangerous, I want to know from what. This guard said you know more about it. I can wait until you have time to explain it to me though, you look quite overrun at the moment." Scroll said, looking over the situation further.

Gladius sighed.

 

"Well, there was an attack on the palace; as far as we know, it was only one griffon who was involved, and yet he somehow was able to kill dozens of guards and severely injure the captain. And these were elite guards, too, the emperor's finest. The killer is still at large, and is considered extremely dangerous. If you see a large griffon whose face is covered in scars, inform the guard immediately and hurry to a safe place."

Fire Slayer pulled himself out of the study to have another walk. He walked outside to see a group of dead guards. So he went down the other set of stairs parralel. Along his walk he began to daydream untill he bumped into a mare. He was about to apologise when he felt like taking a different approach.

"Hello Ma'dam. Are you enjoying rome?" He said with his typical emotionless tone.

Vinyl raised an eyebrow at the unfamiliar stallion. "I am. Do I, or should I, know you? Or do you just go about Rome talking to every mare you bump into?" In the back of her mind, she had a feeling that she should know who the stallion was, but she thought if he was important enough, she would've known

Magnus woke up from his nap, he took his armor off except his cape, he walked to the main room and notice the blood stains he left earlier, using his cape, he wiped the blood off the floor as best he could and decided to walk around the temple, trying to relax

"Yes, you should know who I am. My name is Fire slayer, and I am the emporer of Rome. Does that clarify things for you or perhaps you need convincing..."

"Yes, you should know who I am. My name is Fire slayer, and I am the emporer of Rome. Does that clarify things for you or perhaps you need convincing..."

Vinyl's eyes widened as she realised who she was talking to. "Oh gods, I'm so sorry, emperor. I didn't know. You see, I just arrived here from my small village in the east. The soldiers marched through and said we were Roman citizens. I saw it as a great opportunity to visit the capital, so here I am."

Vinyl's eyes widened as she realised who she was talking to. "Oh gods, I'm so sorry, emperor. I didn't know. You see, I just arrived here from my small village in the east. The soldiers marched through and said we were Roman citizens. I saw it as a great opportunity to visit the capital, so here I am."

Fire Slayer began to take mental notes. "No no. At least you're not tripping over yourself in my presence. That became boring after a day... But enough about me. How has Rome been treating you? Have you seen the Gladitorial arena as of yet? And why are you hiding a daggar behind that robe?"

Icicle headed back to the palace, Hoping he would see something that would help lead to the griffon who killed all the ponies, at the palace, Icicle saw the Emperor and another pony who he had not met, looking around all he saw were dead ponies, The first thing Icicle decided to do was at least organize the dead so they were not just lying around. Icicle, as much as he did not like the idea, started pulling the dead ponies into a row so they would be easier to look at, and not have have to walk around everywhere, Finally when he finished he took a good look at all the guards, deep scratches everywhere, blood, Icicle was having trouble finding anything that would lead to the griffon.

Minath didn't feel like walking amoung the regular ponies anymore, so she disobeyed the 'no flying within city limits' rule and flew to the top of the colosseum, sitting on the pillars. She stared down to the empty arena and sighed. She rested her head on her hooves and thought about the various gods her people worshipped.

Diamond started writing a few letters to a few other senators who weren't in Rome. After that she stood up and made her way out of her office, still feeling very upset.

She walked out of the castle, doing her best not to look at the bodies of the guards, then she made her way towards her home to prepare for dinner.

Icicle saw somepony walk out of the castle, he was still looking for clues and thought that maybe she would be able to help, Icicle ran over and said, "Um, Hello there! My name is Icicle, i am looking for clues that will help find the griffon, do you think i could ask you a few questions?" Icicle was hoping that somepony could help him.

Gladius saw Diamond walking along and remembered that it was his duty to protect her. He quickly trotted over to her side after having been away from her for much longer than he had intended.

 

"I'm sorry I had to leave your side for so long ma'am. I got caught up in other guard business and before I knew it you were gone. But I'll be able to stay with you and keep you safe from now on."

Diamond stopped and looked at the pony who had just walked up to her. "Yes you may but I am afraid I don't know anything about what happened." She said, looking over at Gladius. "And its no problem Gladius dear. I had to take care of a few things at the palace anyway." She said, looking back at Icicle.

Icicle heard Gladius speak to this pony and realized that she must have been important, "Well before i start asking you questions, could i have your name and occupation?" Icicle didn't like how he made the sentence more official then it should have been, but then again words were just words.

Gladius turned to Icicle.

 

"What exactly do you think you're doing? This is state business, and by moving the bodies, you've interfered with the investigation. I have half a mind to arrest you for tampering with a crime scene. Furthermore, you have no right to question the honored senator in this manner in regards to the events here, as you have no right to involve yourself in this investigation at all. But you're new to the city, and I've given you enough of a hard time already, so this time I'm going to let you off with a warning. Just keep your nose out of this, or if you really feel the need to involve yourself, join the guard so that you can do it legally."

Icicle turned to Gladius, "I have not tampered with anything, i have no hoof prints i am partially made of water, and by the way i don't really see anypony looking at the crime scene at the moment, besides we know who did it, it's not that we don't know, all we have to do is find something telling us where the griffin might be!" Icicle said calmly, he was very sure that Gladius would explode on him in the next instant but Icicle did not move from his spot into a more defensive postion.

Diamond felt rather surprised that the pony didn't know who she was and was about to speak but stopped as Gladius addressed the pony. When Gladius finished speaking Diamond didn't say anything...because he did have a point, this pony didn't really have anything to do with the crime.
