Luna is best pony, maybe not best princess that goes to Celestia, but still best pony. Luna after all is a bit like the Alice Cooper of MLP, ponies want her to come, basically put on a show, and scare them. But she is still kindhearted and mentors others, just like Alice. And let's not forget Luna has one of the best bit of dialogue in the series:

Luna was so perfect this episode. I loved how she expressed her similarities with Sweetie Belle.

 

It seems that they make this a regular thing, having Luna come into the CMC's dreams and giving them advice. The next one should be with Applebloom if they decide to do all of them.

So I was looking at this image(Which is gorgeous by the way), and I randomly thought of a song that I honestly think fits Luna and her situation almost perfectly. The song "I See The Light", from Tangled.

 

 

The "outside looking in" part is obviously her on the moon. Then goes onto her "seeing the light", which is Luna realizing her mistakes. And so on and so forth.

 

I would say this would also fit something along the lines of Luna and her lover/soul mate/etc.

 

It just makes me love Luna even more.

I would really like to see an episode that goes into detail the relationship that Luna and Celestia had before, I mean can you imagine some of the things that they could do? I mean it could put some amazing depth into the show, also I mean its Luna and she is amazing

It is not very often a thread like this pops up, the question is a fair one but I have always thought there was more going on than the show has revealed about Luna becoming Nightmare Moon. Sure I have some bias in her favor but I have tried as best as I can to set that aside.
