Does a character from MLP:FIM remind you of another character from another show?

There were a few older threads, comparing Sonic and Rainbow Dash, that fit under the umbrella of this newer and more general one that was created by pinkiefan1287, so they have been merged together. The OP has been edited so as not to create confusion, as the older replies do naturally come before the newer ones. This thread is still for the purpose of discussing which characters from MLP remind us of characters from other shows.

King Sombra reminds me of the orcs in World of Warcraft. Both are evil, soulless, cruel and totally badass. That's why Sombra is the best villain.

Really random and obscure, but gonna' go with a Girls parallel. For those who don't know, that's a show on HBO that is pretty much the opposite of MLP in most senses (aside from the fact they are both half-hour comedies with female main characters).  Wierdly enough, though, Hannah, Marnie and Jessa (the three main heroines - if you can either call them that - lol) remind me of more grown-up, R-rated (TV-MA?) versions of the CMC.  They are twenty-somethings and kind of losers, but much like the CMC, are trying to find their special talents/identities and mostly derping it up, despite meaning well. Not only that, but the individual personalities, talents, backgrounds and random details of the three also parallel pretty well.

For instance:

Hannah = Apple Bloom: The defacto "leader" and peace-maker of the trio, the most "main character" with more screen time than the others, a drama queen, easily embarressed, worries about ridiculous things, interested in creative pursuits, sometimes impatient and expects results without putting in effort, close to her family, from a slightly more working-class background, is often embarressed by members of her family because they are less sophisticated, has a cousin who bullies her

Marnie = Sweetie Belle: Has the second most amount of screen time of the three, the girliest of the three, likes cute things, kind of a crybaby, has a talent for singing (but is embarressed about it to varying degrees), smart but sometimes misses the basic points of thing, has a weird speech habit, concerned with social status, family is more upper-class, admires her family, but isn't really that close to them, has green eyes, same Myer's Briggs personality type (ISFJ)

Jessa = Scootaloo: The "cool" member of the group (really is a loser too, but probably thinks she isn't), a daredevil and seems fearless (but isn't, of course), somewhat snarky, hates showing weakness, sometimes runs away from her problems, is often times bold and confrontational, doesn't have as much screentime (yet), but is potentially the most tragic character, family is (or, in Scootaloo's case: is potentially) either abusive or neglectful, same Myer's Briggs personality type (ENFP - although Scootaloo might be more ESFP)

ETA - So, I guess Shoshana is Babs then?

I think that if you mix Rarity, Rainbow Dash, and Pinkie Pie together, then gender swap and humanize the product of the combination, you get this little fella right here :D

But I dunno; I see a certain uniqueness in all of these characters, you know?

I can't really find too many characters like them when I sit down and try and think about it. They're all unique in their own way, lacking common tropes you'll see in other TV characters. Past that little Barney Stinson thing I thought of, I've got nothing -_-

Twilight Sparkle occasionally reminds me of Raven from Teen Titans (the older version of the series), however, I think the reason for that is entirely Tara Strong's fault. :derp::P

The cast reminds me a lot of the cast from Community.

No, seriously, they are identical. MLP is basically Community for kids.

1. Obsessive bookworm that tries too hard at everything causing herself mental breakdowns (Twilight/Annie).

2. Good-looking charmer with a serious vanity problem acting more successful than they are (Rarity/Jeff).

3. High-energy oddball that's genre savvy to the point of being omniscient (Pinkie/Abed).

4. Nurturing soft-spoken motherly figure masking rage issues and an overbearing personality (Fluttershy/Shirley).

5. Dependable hard worker who's both honest and defiant to a fault (Applejack/Britta).

6. Egotistical and fiercely loyal jock vainly trying to hide their softer side (Rainbow/Troy).

7. Deadpan snarker who really wants to be accepted despite being selfish and hard to get along with (Spike/Pierce).

8. Insane mischief maker lusting for power and chaos to ease a lonely life (Discord/Chang).

Both shows are about these characters exploring their relationships and remaining friends despite their differences and individual problems. Anything can happen on the show, many references to popular films are made, and there are little easter eggs thrown in for fans.

Woah. I really, really want an animated video of the MLP characters in the Community setting now.

Pinkie Pie is just like SpongeBob!!!

I hope you're just referring to Spongebob from Seasons 1-3 (i.e. the Golden era of Spongebob). Modern Spongebob (Season 4-present) is just way too mean spirited and lacks any common sense to even be compared to everyone's favorite party planner extraordinaire.

If we're sticking with the Spongebob motif, then I guess you could say that Twilight reminds me of Sandy Cheeks. They both love science and learning, and always seem to have a mishap occur when trying to solve their friends problems  :o

I'm not even going to try and guess how many people have already compared Sonic and Rainbow Dash. x3

I can't really say that much for the others though, seem pretty original to me. ^^

No, I'd say in this season she's been exactly like current SpongeBob in as much as she acts exactly like she used to but everyone complains about her acting different. :P (No offense, it's a general thing.)
