Mission Impossible: Ghost Protocol (2011) My favorite of the Mission Impossible movies. This thing really delivers. Director Brad Bird was the best thing to happen to this series and they should get him to do more instead of constantly indulging Christopher McQuarrie, who has about as much talent as the dirt under my toenails. Being friends with Tom Cruise shouldn’t be the requisite qualification to taking over the series, and it should be allowed to return to better times. The action, story and performances in Ghost Protocol were excellent every step of the way. Great movie. 8.5/10

Wild Robot (2024) This thing really started off good, with lots of sharp, edgy humor that delivered. I thought something special was happening, but then the rest of the movie happened and flattened all my lofty hopes. Yup, all the originality and freshness went right down the toilet, only to be replaced by, you guessed it, generic self-pity scenes and lengthy tacked-on speeches about love and tenderness, complete with in-your-face explanations for all the dummies in the back row who can’t watch a movie without having the plot spelled out for them in short, understandable words of two syllables or less. The characters were all so funny and original at first, which made it all the more disappointing to see them go the generic route by the end. 5/10

Alien: Romulus (2024) Better than the last bunch of bombs Ridley Scott farted out for this franchise, but far from greatness. Granted, there were flickers of originality here and there, and I actually liked most of the characters, but in its efforts to revisit the glory days of the Alien series, it ended up being little more than a pale hybrid of the first two classics, Alien and Aliens. There were many opportunities to take this movie in fresh new directions but the writers weren’t equal to the task, opting instead for reproducing all those cool scenes we’ve already seen before, rearranged for today’s audiences. There hasn’t been a truly great Alien movie since 1986 and sadly that remains true with this latest installment. But if you leave your expectations at the door, it’s diverting enough. 7/10

Hope you'll stomach the remaining 3 movies here @Dreambiscuit, even the finale.  If we don't wait multiple years for it.

I feel shocked to the core by the review @Dreambiscuit.  With 2 huge ratings on Rotten Tomatoes, this movie did loads of things for me.  The full understanding on my part that you didn't like it.  I wonder how you'll feel about the upcoming Dog Man (2025) movie.  What are your thoughts on the Sonic the Hedgehog movie trilogy and the online Knuckles series?

I didn’t mind the 5th Mission Impossible, but after that they do take a dramatic turn for the worse. The last one, with the exception of the stunt work, was completely expendable.

I’m truly glad you liked Wild Robot. There is, despite my overall review, lots to like. I just thought it should have maintained the direction it started with.

Dog Man looks like it has potential, so I’ll be happy to take a look at it when it comes out. As for Sonic, I’m not a huge fan. I do Like Jim Carrey in it and he brought out some of his old classic style which always makes me laugh. But the rest of the characters, and especially the story, fell short of the possibilities. I haven’t seen the Knuckles series so I’ll add it to my short list. I don’t mean to insult anything you like, but such is the nature of opinions; we may not always match but it’s fun to talk about different points of view.

Watched the Crisis On Infinite Earths trilogy yesterday.  Fun, but yeah comic is the best and partially cause Crisis was never meant to be a simple crossover for mindless entertainment.

Like with Barry Allen being succeeding by Wally West being intended as permanent, the story had a point in celebrating DC history and moving the multiverse turned universe in a new direction.

The Arrowverse version is at least second to the comic as it was built up and had a story point such as bringing Black Lighting, Superman and Supergirl into the same Earth as the other heroes, plus even stories using the new history.

Mr. Destiny (1990) This is a very nice sleeper that passed under the radar, but remains a very solid fun movie. It makes you think of the ‘what ifs’ and how a single event can sometimes change the direction of everything else, for better or worse. Entertaining and fun, without overdoing anything. 7.5/10

Return of the Jedi (1983) My favorite movie of all time so, yeah, good flick. 100/10

M3GAN Uncut edition (2023) Better than the theatrical version, this version has a little more edge to it. Mostly just a few more F–words and a little more gore, but it seems to work for it. 7.5/10

The Burbs (1989) I was never a huge fan of this movie, but I guess that was back in the day when movies weren’t so universally awful. This time I liked it and despite the need for just a few small tweaks, this is a keeper. 6.5/10

Paper Moon (1973) One of the best movies of the ‘70s, about a con man and his equally cutthroat apprentice, a 9 year old girl, who travel the Midwest during the Depression. 10/10

Zombieland (2009) A staple of my Halloween week viewing and a classic of its kind. This movie takes the tired genre of zombie flicks and gives it a humorous twist. Smart and savvy fun. 8.5/10

I've always liked The 'Burbs, not for deep analysis just a fun movie you can turn your brain off and just go with it. :D

Return Of The Jedi - 'nuff said! B)
