Should all of the mane six have romantic interests in the show?

Why not Applejack?She may be a bit of tomboy albeit as much of one as Rainbow Dash but even tomboy can still fall in love so it is not entirely impossible. Besides if one or more of them did have a romatic interest it might spice things up a little if it is one you wouldn't really suspect as much of being interested in that which in my opinion would most likely be Rainbow Dash. To basically restate what I said earlier I wouldn't mind if romance was introduced so long as it grows naturally and is not just arbitrarily shoe horned in to where it seems like they fawning over stallions 24/7 like a lot of the girls in those teen drama shows.

Not all of them, I think the only ones that should are Pinkie, Fluttershy and Rarity. I've had this reoccuring idea of Fluttershy and co. going through old year books and she brings up her coltfriend from High School.

I could definitely see Rarity with a coltfriend. He would probably be some stuck-up snob, though. As for the rest of the mane 6, I could see any of them besides Pinkie with a coltfriend, but to be honest I'd rather not.

Isn't it bad enough that we're going to have Twilight fall in love with a humanized Shining Armor (which I believe is the equivalent of incest, BTW, because he's her brother and everything?) in Equestria Girls?

 

If there was anything I learned, it's that first impressions matter... unless the actual product reveals itself as crap compared to said first impressions.  Equestria Girls made it look like Twilight will give up what made her what she is back in Equestria, and turn herself into some teenage guy's sex slave.  Why?  Because Hasbro's execs stripped the writers of their creative freedom with the show, just to crap out more toys.

 

Here's hoping that there isn't as much of an emphasis on boy-loving, and more on Twilight just earning her friends' human-counterparts' friendship, just to earn the crown from that prom-queen contest before Sunset Shimmer does so herself.  The boy is just feature creep.

Also How do you know She will"Give up Herself for him". Yeah Giving up your time for your friends is a Great Moral but giving some of your time for a Guy is sexist?

I think they should have an episode about it, but I don't think it should be an ongoing thing, I don't know how they'd pull this off though it's rather difficult to say. Maybe do something similar to the powerpuff girls you remember the episode where they met the rowdy rough boys? Yeah maybe something like that may be cool, maybe have male-villian versions of the mane six or something like that.

Lol, that would be really awesome, an episode where they all turned into colts because Twilight is trying out her "alicorn magic" and she messes up. I also agree on the "one time" thing. Like, I wouldn't mind if one of the Mane 6 had some kind of infatuation with some colt for like, one episode. But I don't really want any official relationships in the show, unless of course, they're characters we don't see often such as Shining Armour and Princess Cadence. Having the Mane 6 be in relationships may just cause the show to lag a bit in terms of friendship and seeing that's the main point of the show... unless they want to make an episode about one of them being crushing so hard on somepony they forget about their friends, and that pony has to learn about priorities... idk o__o Sounds like a good but at the same time, extremely bad idea. I don't think all of the characters should have romantic interests, I mean this is a show titled "Friendship is Magic" not "Romance is Magic".

 

I think their should be an episode where a new pony comes to town and Twilight or Fluttershy develops a crush but then he turns out to be a jerk or he moves away. But they shouldn't keep him permanent.

 

Or maybe Applejack develops a crush on some stallion, and the episode follows the typical 'tomboy goes to trendy girlie girl friend' (Rarity) for advice on how to catch the stallions attention' outline.

Maybe rarity, she was the one that showed the most interest in romance out of the main 6. However I doubt the writers would do this, they know fans will judge it harshly especially if they ship the character with someone else(look how people reacted to side characters getting canonical ships, imagine what will happen if a major one got into a relationship), they will explore the romance side with secondary characters probably(like big mac and maud).

Spike is not a love interest for Rarity. Rarity is a love interest for Spike, an unrequited one.

Rarity is the only one who has shown explicit interest in romance, both times having bad experiences but I don't think they would touch the subject again.

I cannot begin to imagine how much hate fans of the show in the shipping community would have if this was done on the show. On the one hand you’ll have people complaining about non-cannon shippings being non-canon, fake, and gay while for non-cannon shippers it would piss them off to no end against Hasbro. Soo yeah, Hasbro unintentionally dodged a bullet on that one by not putting any romance plot-points or lack there of in terms of substance. They want to keep their franchise safe.

 

I wish they would though as it would be endless popcorn fun material for me to watch as MLP shippers are at war against each other.

Jim Miller was right in saying that canon ships would please a small part of the base and piss off the rest of them. There are already so many plot threads still hanging that it's probably best that they hold off on introducing any new ones into the mix since we now know this is the last season. I could only see them doing it as sort of an epilogue in the finale.

 

And ugh... Absolutely not @ ZephyrDash. He's like the complete opposite of who an appropriate coltfriend would be, especially for her. It also would send a horrible message in the post metoo era.

The vast majority of shows and movies try to shoe horn in a romantic subplot. MLP is one of the few that don't.
