I agree when you say that they're not the best example to use. I did include Megadeth though if they can be classed as a true heavy metal band (if not then I really need to revise my genres). To be honest I don't really listen to Avenged Sevenfold much, I prefer to listen to Dragonforce or Megadeth and, if the mood strikes me, Parkway Drive.

Megadeth = Thrash Metal, though I think that they can be qualified as Heavy Metal as well, but mostly they're noted as a Thrash band.

Haha, yep I can agree with that statement. Never really heard of these guys before though could you send me couple of links to their songs, not live concerts if you can I prefer to listen to the studio recorded songs.

Rock has to be the "better" even though you can't really compare two different genres.

I prefer my music to to be in my opinion of music, played with instruments. Yes Electronic Music is music but when I say Electronic Music I mean stuff like Electronica or Drum and Bass.

Examples of Electronica:

Examples of Drum and Bass:

Plus all this talk on Metal (one of my favourite musical genres) Why not Electronic + Metal?

 - Self vs Self Pendulum ft. In Flames

If we talk mainly Dubstep, I'm not hugely fond of the genre. Ponystep (if you can class it as such) on the other hand. Godsend.

I have to admit, they're actually a seriously awesome band. They're pretty cheesy, but real good fun. I've been dying to see them live.

I think it's like comparing chalk and cheese, I don't see Rock and Dubstep as being similar styles of music what so ever and don't see any point in comparing them to be honest.

I'd choose Dubstep though if I had to pick one though

To me that sounds like Electronic Metal, which sounds pretty epic. Self vs Self is a Metal band and a Drum and Bass band combining together to create a song which is slightly different.

I need to increase my artists from what I've got atm. Been living in the Pony music at bit too long :s

T3R are a pretty solid Industrial Metal band, similar to Deathstars and Rammstein. Neurotech is a little differnet, sounds kinda like he blends Melodeath with various different styles of Eelctronic music. I think people have been categorising similar bands and artists as "Cyber Metal", which is a kinda offshoot from the Industrial Metal thing. huh.png

Yeah a bit too much. I generally listen to it day in, day out. I need to break the habit. Start listening to...not "real" music cause pony music is music...just...you know...music.

Well, I love post-hardcore and metalcore. Plus those genres plus, anything along the rock/metal lines are more familiar to me. But, dubstep is amazing if made right. I love fast tempo songs and/or aggressive bass drops. I don't care how filthy it sounds, if its not fast paced i wouldn't like it. It also needs a good drum beat. But for now rock>dubstep

No offence taken mate. I simply used A7X because they were one of the first bands that popped into my head. Also when I checked Wikipedia to make sure I had gotten my genres right they were listed as Heavy metal so that's what I put.

Bro do you even Mercyful Fate?

I don't like Avenged Sevenfold( I kinda hate them tbh), but from what I heard this what I know. They started off as metalcore then they became hard rockish heavy metal.

Yeah their first 2 albums were Metalcore, but then after City of Evil they became a Hard Rock/Heavy Metal band. I myself as a fan of Metalcore have to say that they aren't that bad, their Metalcore stuff wasn't good, though it wasn't terrible, and their newer material I roll my eyes at.

Rush

Rush is my favorite band of all time!

-Megadeth, Heavy metal and thrash metal band.

Avenged Sevenfold, Heavy metal band.

I love Megadeth and Avenged Sevenfold.

Well now I feel like an elitist dickhead.

That's because you kinda are.

They started off as metalcore then they became hard rockish heavy metal.

That's basically right. Their first two albums are metalcore, their third album was mainly heavy metal-influenced. Their two most recent albums are really more hard rock than anything. I wouldn't call most of their newer stuff metal to be honest.

Bullshit, their metalcore stuff is great.

I've tried listening to them before, I really don't like M Shadow's voice. I remember one song was on their first album, the other was on Nightmare.

>Says he likes metal

I do.

>Uses Dethklok as an example for death metal

Yeah so? I was listening to them at the time.

>Probably can't name any other death metal bands besides Dethklok, Cannibal Corpse or In Flames.

Children Of Bodom. Other than them no I couldn't name any others, I generally just listen to Dethklok. My dad could probably name a ton though.

GOTTT EMMMMM!!!! No, just kidding. don't take this seriously. It's really none of my business, anyway. just felt I needed to throw that in there.

M. Shadow's clean vocals are bland and pretty annoying in my opinion, their lyrics are either terribly written or are decent.

And what exactly was the point of quoting that? Were you trying to prove something? Is there something you want to tell me? Did you think I was being an elitist?

no. I was just trying to get a laugh out of someone. It's kinda pointless now that I think about it, because it doesn't matter. I'm sorry.

I find the band's sound to be bland, actually . So far the only metalcore bands that I like are Converge and Between the Buried and Me.

Man, you really are an elitist, aren't you?

I really don't get how his vocals are bland or even annoying. I can get people not liking his vocals in City of Evil and the albums afterwards, but I don't see how they are even slightly annoying in their Waking the Fallen album.

I also fail to see how the lyrics are terribly written, although I guess it depends on what songs you are talking about.

I think you'd dig Shai Hulud, they're an earlier Metalcore band with Progressive Metal influences

Yeah I get a little elitist when it comes down to Metalcore tongue.png

I said that some of their lyrics are terrible written (Gunslinger, Nightmare, Bat country and basically most of their big hit songs are terribly written as well as only a few of their older tracks), his vocals feel soulless to me, like they're nothing but some guy who sounds...the way he does. Yes, Waking The Fallen was more bearable than their others, but still definitely not good in comparison to other Metalcore vocalists that I've heard. His clean vocals are mostly my problem, not really his screaming. I'll admit that A7X's Metalcore stuff is passable though far from being great.
