"Even Flow" (This single version featured in the music video in particular) has been my absolute favourite song for years now. The groove that drummer Dave Abbruzzese and rhythm guitarist Stone Gossard provide is just unmatched, not to mention the oh-so-beautiful licks and solos by the lead guitarist, Mike McCready.

This is THE song that instantly makes me want to pick up my guitar and start writing new songs myself.
It's incredibly inspirational.

You sick, sick freak. Making me choose between the THOUSANDS of amazing rock tunes. This is going to be one of the hardest discussions I will ever have to make in my life...

I'm gonna have to go with an oldie here. (GODDAMMITGODDAMMITGODDAMMIT, THIS IS SO HARD~!!!!) I've gotta give The Beatles some credit. They are one of the greatest rock groups of all time, hands down. No arguments. Even if you don't like 'em, ya' gotta give 'em props.

I hate you, OP. I hate you so much... (pssst~, not really :) )

awwwe you're definitely right about that one. I will acknowledge that my favorite rock song of all time is sweet child of mine but it's not on my "current" song concept
CURRENTLY! I've been in love with THE DECADENT DANCERS!!! The full version especially. That Piano Solo at the beginning is so yes!

Ah, hell... You know what? Disregard my previous response. Upon further consideration, "Let It Be" is the superior song here. I mean, listen to Lennon's voice in it. He gets into it. Plus, that message, man... Dear [insert deity(ies)]! This song is fantastic!

Jumping aboard the Beatles train:

I came in here to post "Help" and found it was already linked. Great to see there are lots of Beatles fans here! My other favorite Beatles songs are "I Want To Hold Your Hand" and "Hey Jude".

Oh my Celestia, we could be, like, musical twins! I mean, I love most Beatles songs, (I have to admit that I don't care for some...) but those three are my personal favorites as well! Brohoof for mutual musical preferences! :)

Well I'm not too big of a fan of rock, I'm more of an metal and alternative kinda guy but ehh sure whatever I'll post a song. Most hard rock stuff is kinda bland in my opinion.

I simply had to do this. I know, it's cliche, every store that sells guitars even has this thing here:

But it simply is my favorite Rock Song and my favorite band. Point. I like songs that have more than just a few lines and a bit of variety in their music. And this is simply the best rock ballad ever. Just my opinion.

WAY TOO MANY BEATLES TUNES HERE! ima gonna have to bring out THE PROG ROCK!!! ima gonna go with a classic, it is definitely one of the most classifiable as a classic rock tune of the prog era anyway, i mean, this is the definitive flute playing rock out there, all the new folk rock bands (EG, lumineers or whatever they are called) got nothing on jethro tull!

Only one?! This is a cruel thread!
Well I guess the most logical thing to do would be to choose my favourite song by my favourite band.

Can't go wrong with a bit of The Who

Man, this is probably one of the hardest questions I've ever been asked.  It took me a long time to make a decision, but I finally went with One Way Street by Aerosmith, my favorite band of all time.

This thread is killing meh!!! D:

I actually have a repertory of thousands of rock songs in my head, since I listen to rock all day long...

Hmm... well... I guess this one for the awesome guitar solo:

Prog rock... it's not actually "rock", but since it comes close and have it in its name, it's rock.

How strange, I thought I had already made a post in this thread. Ah well, this means I can share it again! My favourite rock song, by a mile, is Come Alive by Foo Fighters. It's flat-out sensational.

Listening to it should be enough, but if you want my detailed thoughts on why I love it so much:

Come Alive has everything. Beautiful lyrics, beautiful instrumentation, beautiful progression and beautiful vocals. It's so good that I literally can't get over it. It begins with the acoustic melody, a change from what Foo Fighters normally do and a change that was quite frequent in this album, and flows through a couple of verses with gradually mounting strumming, before launching into drums and rocking out. Those different stages and their ties give the song a storytelling vibe, one which I adore.

The theme of the song is how one's world can be reawakened upon becoming a father. I love that. Dave Grohl's favourite simple pleasure in life, according to an AMA that he did, is being a father, and because he's my favourite musician, this song being composed around his favourite thing in the world holds just as much proportional value to myself.

Tonality wise, the way they tied the chorus and lyrics into the switch in key (going from B minor in the verse to B major in the chorus) greatly gratifies the meaning of the lyrics. In fact, I'm going to go into the lyrics into a bit more detail, as they especially stand out for me. This is the first verse:

Seems like only yesterday

Life belonged to runaways

Nothing here to see, no looking back

Every sound monotone

Every colour monochrome

Life began to fade into the black

Such a simple animal

Sterilised with alcohol

I can hardly feel me any more

Desperate, meaningless

All filled up with emptiness

Felt like everything was said and done

I lay there in the dark, and I closed my eyes

You saved me the day you came alive

While the entire song has incredible lyrics, this section is especially exceptional. Describing the bleakness of that stasis where you think hope is lost and there's nothing to live for. The reversal of motives is brilliant; "All filled up with emptiness" a way to describe how life will suppress you if you find no purpose in it; "Every sound monotone, every colour monochrome" even the smallest details in life become the same old, something we understand from "Seems like only yesterday".

It's also genius in the fact that every third line is a resultant scenario - the other two lines are the current state of affairs leading up to that third line. "Seems like only yesterday, life belonged to runaways" and as a result of that "Nothing here to see, no looking back". That happens another three times in that first verse, and the intricacy of the writing is otherworldly.

It's each component of that first verse, tying in with the acoustic guitar playing B minor in the background, setting the stance for the POV of the song, continuing into B minor as the last two lines are sang - and then suddenly switching into B major as the final line is read - turning the tide of depression and creating a sense of hope. That's what I meant by the key gratifying the lyrics.

After the second verse is allowed time to breathe, the drums launch in at 1:52 for the second chorus. I freaking love this part of the song. It's the "shit's about to go down moment", and when drums show great personality in their beat, it makes a song tons better. Whenever I'm listening to this song, I drop everything and play the air drums at that precise moment. Then the song rocks out! Completing the progression and kicking in with real rock 'n roll.

And to top it all off, Dave Grohl's at the mic. He's an incredible singer. He simultaneously has a kickass rock voice and an agile emotion voice. It's like they packed everything I love in the world and chucked it into a song.

Probably Center Fold. Great song from a great band. My dad showed it to me and I fell in love with it. He was real big on rock, but now he just likes country
