Rainbow Dash 1,472 October 29, 2013 Share October 29, 2013 Alcohol is a drug, no matter how you sugar coat it. I was an alcoholic for about half of the year. I started the day i turned 21. I always joked how i was a cowboy and that drinking away my pains was the manliest thing to do but i soon learned that was a lie. Last August I drank an obscene amount of the drug and scared myself to the point where i swore off of it. Alcohol is ok IN MODERATION, but if you do it like a college student and brag about it, something is radically wrong. In my opinion, The legal drinking age should be bumped up to 25. That is the age that your brain stops developing -i think- and the likelihood of you developing mental illness is almost nil. R.I.P. Winterbass 763 October 29, 2013 Share October 29, 2013 I love alcohol. I love the taste and the feeling after drinking some of that godly substance. I've drunk a lot of different types of alcoholic drinks. I like drinking beer casually from time to time. Don't seem to get drunk or tipsy at all, unless I drink a lot of alcohol. I'm also the fastest drinker out of everyone I know, already emptying a glass when the other's glasses are 2/3rds full. I don't get many hangovers as well, but when I get them, they're really bad. Splitting headaches and a feeling of drowsiness for almost a full day. I'd be lying if I didn't say that I also drink alcohol to get drunk. I like being drunk, but not around other people, unless they're close friends. I just like that feeling you get when you got a good amount of alcohol in your system. But I do it mostly for the taste and the activity around drinking alcohol. As it is also a very social activity. Most I've ever drunk? I honestly don't know. I did once wake up with 16 empty beer bottles (0.5 liter bottles) and 2 empty vodka bottles (1 liter bottles) around me. Pretty sure I drank it all myself, as no one remembers having a drink with me the previous day. I'm surprised I didn't drink myself in a coma, must've drunk all that stuff over a pretty long time. Weirdest thing of all, I felt perfectly fine, like I didn't drink anything at all.
Ianpiersonjdavis 512 October 29, 2013 Share October 29, 2013 It tastes nasty and I honestly don't see the appeal of waking up in the morning with a pounding migraine, so I don't drink it myself.
Antismurf9001 1,271 October 29, 2013 Share October 29, 2013 I personally don't really care for alcohol. It can be fine for other people, but it's not my thing. I've admittedly only had sips of champagne (which I thought was awful by the way) and don't plan on having anything more. There have been alcoholics in my family, and I would prefer to not join them. Treble Bolt 1,122 October 29, 2013 Share October 29, 2013 Personally, liquor and beer taste disgusting, and thus I chug it.....I'm from Wisconsin so I can't deny that I do drink it. Though mainstream American beer is darn near water so that stuff I tend to stay away from. I drink Lenie's (I actually lived in Chippewa Falls), and other more obscure beer (Moose Drool anyone?). As for hard liquor, I prefer whisky....Southern Comfort....why, because it kills my taste buds all together....In terms of liquor in mainstream society, I'm not against it. There just needs to be a balance. I am not okay with binge drinking (plus that's a horrible thing to do to your liver), or bars (why go somewhere to get drunk when you can buy beer cheaper at a store and do whatever drunk people do in the safety of your own home). I also am not okay with drinking to forget or get away; I actually have a friend who's a swill, he's a great, knowledgeable guy, but because what his ex-wife did to him, we never ever ever see him without a beer in his hand. Poor guy . It's just sad to see people like that, and no addiction (be it beer or drugs) is a good way to cope. Liquor needs a balance, don't overdo it lest if you desire to be an alchoholic. Underdoing it is fine (just don't binge),and not doing it at all is the best for you health wise. But nothing beats a wonderful evening with friends, sitting around a camp fire, shooting the bull and drinking some good beer. ASocialyAwkwardPony 299 October 29, 2013 Share October 29, 2013 Personally I don't drink most of the time for several reasons. I don't find it tasting very good, I don't want to lose control over my mind and body, if something is so boring one have to be drunk to enjoy it I rather be at home and enjoy something else, etc. so basically I only drink a small pint if Jager as basically cough sirup on rare occasions.Basically my view on it is keep it away from me and please stay away from me when drunk.
Glaci 119 October 30, 2013 Share October 30, 2013 I'd say alcohol isn't that bad as long as you don't use it the wrong way. Some people will say being tipsy is okay, you just don't want to get really drunk. But the truth is that when you get tipsy you don't really make decisions as well, and chances are you'll end up drunk, especially if you're out with friends at a club or something, that really blurs your thoughts. I would drink, sure, some of the stuff is good, but I would never get drunk. I just don't like the idea of it, it sounds miserable and not fun at all.
MeowLord Noraasha 135 November 1, 2013 Share November 1, 2013 Uhm, as said previously, everything in moderation. It's just sad that some people cannot be fun or true about their feelings until they get drunk :/ I despise hard drinks, liquors, vodkas and such, as they taste mostly awful, and I believe those are really harmful after 20-30 years of regular using, even if it's not that much in quantity. As for if I use it or not, it'll always be a mystery to you.... Nah I enjoy beer and cider cause of their taste, I drink them very rarely though UNITED WE STAND If anyone feel like talking, chatting, need an advice, have a problem or just need cheering up, I'm at your service. Unikitty 1,212 November 1, 2013 Share November 1, 2013 As a person who drinks alcoholic beverages on a constant basis(for the taste, mind you), I have nothing against it. There is nothing wrong with wanting to indulge in something that makes you feel good. However, it is important that people know just what alcohol is, and how it affects the body. It is important that people know that it is a powerful substance, and that they should ensure that they understand the risks taken when consuming it. It is no different to smoking or eating unhealthy food(fast food, high sugar content, etc). Alcohol(and inhalants) should not be something consumed whilst the body is still developing. It should not be something consumed whilst in a situation where one can be injured. Alcohol is a chemical, and as such, will result in a chemical change within the body. Permanent or temporary, it is not something to think lightly of. Some people like the taste. Some people like the effects. Some use it to help positively affect a social event. Some use it to avoid and help cope with negative events. But regardless of the reason, responsibility is something that needs to always be a prime point of thought, as well as awareness of the impact that consuming such will have - on both yourself and those around you. Alcohol is not a bad product - but it is not one to be taken lightly.
Taviscratch 453 November 1, 2013 Share November 1, 2013 Alcohol is great and there is no problem with it in itself. The problem lies with people who don't know how to drink. I'm at uni so I'm drinking quite often but its embarrassing to watch idiots not knowing what they're doing, knocking back cheap vodka shots until they pass out after half an hour and spend the rest of the night curled up in a bush. If you're responsible and are aware of your limits then there's no problem. You can get pretty damn drunk and still be responsible enough and aware enough of your surrounding that you have a bloody good night and nobody gets hurt. LittleRawr 679 November 1, 2013 Share November 1, 2013 I personally dislike the taste and smell of alcohol. I've tried wine, beer, vodka and champagne in tiny sips at New Year parties, but it always left a bad taste in my mouth. As for others drinking the stuff, I think its fine, as long and they don't drink too much. Just know the limits and it'll be fine. lomk 20,663 November 2, 2013 Share November 2, 2013 I like a drink from time to time. But really I only drink whiskey. Beer tastes like stagnant dishwater in my opinion. It's awful, and the ONLY times I can really enjoy the taste of beer is at a party (and I seldom party), on a really really hot day (but I'll probably only drink one and then top it off with a quart or two of water...cause, you know, your body needs that stuff) or with a really good steak. And even when it comes to having a drink with a steak, I prefer water. However, when it's late at night, I like a shot of whiskey. Lots of people say it's just rough, but I like that roughness. Yes it's rough. Crown Royal on the rocks...that's like drinking frozen fire if you can wrap your mind around it. You'd know what I was talking about if you've ever had Crown on the rocks. But I don't really like it cold. I like a shot of whiskey at room temperature. I feel like adding ice just waters it down and covers up the taste. And of course, you only drink coffee hot lol But then there's the warm feeling that whiskey makes. It feels like something warm is in your chest and the warmness spreads across your whole body. I also like a little Crown Royal with some 7-Up. But I only had that when we went to Tunica Resorts in Mississippi. It's about a half hour south of Memphis. I learned that alcohol makes me a little better at the blackjack tables lol Other than that, I haven't really tried many different kinds of alcohol. I do like a drink, but I do live by one policy: never get drunk. I feel like getting drunk is pointless. It's missing the best part of drinking. Drinking can be like the Bud Light commercials if you take it in stride and be responsible. If I'm at a party, I never have more than 2 beers. While everyone else is having 15, I'll stick to only two. After all I've got to be able to drive home. And I don't want a designated driver driving my car. It's a 2000 Prelude and they don't make those anymore. Nobody drives my car but me. I'm very picky about it. Anyway I'm chasing rabbits, here so I'm gonna get back on topic. Throwing a couple back with some friends is the best way to drink. That and it works for winding me down and taking the edge off things. I also know when NOT to drink. When I'm emotionally unstable, I know it. And I'll stay as far away from alcohol as I can when I'm upset. Like the last couple weeks have been rough on me. I've been stressed out like crazy with research papers and oral reports and about eight college exams in just October alone. Didn't have a drink all month. I mean, you've just got to be responsible with it. I don't know how else to put it. I like alcohol. I love it, really. And it's not bad (the Baptist church will tell you otherwise). You just have to be an adult about it lol I refuse to let go until you're impressed. I refuse to let go until I'm depressed.
Virulence 254 November 2, 2013 Share November 2, 2013 Alcohol is not my cup of tea. If someone offered me one I would refuse. (Well I'm 17 so BACK OFF) My parents drink, but they are very, I repeat very responsible. Sure they have 2 fridges full of stuff, but they don't ever drink and drive. Only at the house. Remi 1,309 November 2, 2013 Share November 2, 2013 (edited) Personally, I think alcohol can be viewed in different ways.I find it to be a wonderful get-away from most problems, as long as it's not use excessively. Just a regular 'go with a friend and drink one or two cold ones' would suffice to make a highlight and a fun part of the day, without damaging neither the liver nor brain cells to violently. Now, if used in large amounts, such as those distributed at parties, (not the formal get-togethers, but actual part-ays) are amounts which are very harmful to one's system. Also, if used excessively, such as to end up in alcoholism, that is also awful, since once you become an alcoholic, you will always be an alcoholic. So, I view alcohol to be a wonderful sign to be carefree, as long as not to end up violently intoxicated. It's all in the regulation, really.-------------------------------------------------------- ...I met my last 2 girlfriends at bars... Sabrinie 392 November 3, 2013 Share November 3, 2013 Due to family issues, I don't drink. I don't have a problem with people who choose to however, as long as they're being safe and not abusing it. I DD for a lot of my friends to make sure they stay safe, but I rarely ever participate in drinking with them. I've also never really liked how alcohol tasted, so not drinking isn't really a difficult thing for me anyway What fun is there in making sense? Guest January 26, 2015 Share January 26, 2015 People should be allowed to drink, as should people be allowed not to drink if they don't want to. Whatever rocks your boat.
Invincible 2,091 January 26, 2015 Share January 26, 2015 Alcohol should be consumed responsibly. When imbibed properly and in appropriate quantities, it's a nice touch for an event with friends or family. If not, then you might end up in places you don't want to end up in. KatonRyu 1,033 January 27, 2015 Share January 27, 2015 There are alcoholic beverages I like the taste of, but I don't drink them. I can't drink slowly, I can't drink moderately. I've only ever been lightheaded, never full-on drunk, but I hated the sensation and because I never want to feel it again I simply won't drink alcohol. At least with water I can down three glasses in a minute without any ill effects.
