Are you a fan of cult classics?

So, if you don't know what this is, don't worry, it's not that dark anti type of religion, so don't worry.

Cult classics are movies, T.V. shows, video games, and anything in general that wasn't considered good or funny, but rather boring or not entertaining. However, as time passes, if something from back then is popular as of now, then it's considered a cult classic.

And I gotta ask, are you a fan of it? And if so, what cult classics have you seen or heard of? I always tend to go for the underrated and cult classics.

To get an idea, here are two cult classics.

For movies, we got napoleon dynamite, a cult classic movie that got low box office scores at the theaters and was considered boring at the time, but as time went on, it was a big hit and a sleeper hit with it's comedy.

For Cartoons, we got invader zim. This is of course funny and weird in a good way if your into that stuff, but back then, it was forgotten and frowned upon because of it's dark humor and characters. Now, it's a big hit as well, and considered one of the funniest cartoons in my opinion.

The first time I watched Napoleon Dynamite I thought it was the stupidest thing ever. I didn't think it was funny at all. But then when I saw it again, I realized it's actually kinda funny.

I really enjoyed The Princess Bride, it had so many fantastic moments including one of the best sword duals ever recorded in cinima! It's arguably my favourite movie, fighting with spirited away for first place.

I suppose I like certain cult classics, the other ones I enjoyed (from a certain point of view) are:

- Troll 2 (That's the "They're eating her! And then theyre going to eat me! OMG!" movie. It's hilariously bad.)

- The Room

- Birdemic

- Invader Zim

- MST3K

Rocky Horror Picture show. I still know every word of dialogue and every song cold. Quadrophenia by The Who, Pink Floyd The Wall, Anything by Monty Python-I could go on but you get the point.

I'm a huge fan of The Velvet Underground and Nico. When it was first released it was considered a failure and sold poorly. Well, I think it's one of the greatest album ever made.

Does being a fan of Evil Dead, They Live!, The Thing, The Big Lebowski, Dead Alive/Brain Dead, The Living Dead Trilogy, Wet Hot American Summer, The Room, The Dark Crystal, Labyrinth, Brazil, Akira, Freaks, and This is Spinal Tap count?

It does.

Videogames like:

  • Seiken Densetsu Series

  • Radiant Silver Gun / Ikaruga
  • Princes Crown  / Odin Sphere

And tons of movies

Doctor Who! Thanks to my brother, I've been a fan since long before the show was re-booted in 2005. Tom Baker was wonderful as the Doctor. Romona was so cool, too. Both of her!

The Princess Bride: apparently a flop at the box office because they didn't know how to market it, but became a cult classic after they released it on VHS

One of my favorite films, It's just wonderful: I love the plot, the characters, the humor and it's writing: very quotable to :)

I'm a fan of Cult Classics in the sense that sometimes really great things just don't get noticed.

Sometimes though, just sometimes, some cult classics make no sense.

I listen to a lot of Cult Classic albums probably my favorite out of all the cult classics would have to be Loveless, it was the album that My Bloody Valentine did that was responsible for the creation of one of my favorite genres, shoegaze.

Loveless is amazing, like anyone who doesn't like Loveless has bad taste.

Speaking of cult classics, Doolittle is one of the greatest albums of the 80's. Of course many people will disagree me, unless they work for Pitchfork.

Of course people will argue I only think this because of Where is my Mind (admittedly a fantastic song) but I love it more than Doolittle because Bone Machine and Gigantic are my top favorite Pixies tracks. Perhaps this can be considered an unpopular opinion?

I like Surfer Rosa too but I prefer Doolittle. Probably because I've listened to Doolittle like 9999999 times in it's entirety in the past month. And because Gouge Away and Debaser my two favorite Pixies songs

Princess Bride was extremely good for one and something I plan on seeing again sometime soon. Another movie I found myself liking a lot despite not having a great opinion of it after first watching it is The Highlander. Irk if I'm interested in seeing the sequels except maybe the ones featuring Lambert.

A thread about cult classics and nobody mentioned The Toxic Avenger, or Troma in general? You should all be ashamed of yourselves. D:

But yeah, I like a lot of cult classics. Not because they're cult classics, though. Because I find them enjoyable. If I specifically liked something because it was a cult classic, that would make me some kind of hipster. Because non-cult classics are too mainstream. <_<

Anyways, for video games, do Earthbound and Ys count?

Guys, this gonna seem wierd ,but did you know that Al Pacino's Scarface is a cult classic? Yeah apparently it wasn't that big when it came out. So yes Scarface and also Evil Dead, I haven't gotten around to seeing the rest, but I love the first one so much!!!!! And that ending was just classic!!!!!! So, yeah, those are two of my favorite cult classics!!!! :-P

I wish more people would call me ,"sir"....without adding, "You're making a scene".

It seems to be riding the same train as other cult classics but Sucker Punch is one of my favorite movies ever. It barely made its budget back and was criticized officially and by viewers. Seems to be a small but alive fanbase for it with myself included. Loved it since opening day so I don't know if that counts for cult classic phenomena symptoms.
