Rank your favorite Pokemon generations. My personal favorites are Gen 1 (Red, Blue, Yellow) and Gen 2 (Gold, Silver, Crystal). It's basically a tie between those two.

1. Gen 2/Gen 1

2. Gen 3

3. Gen 5

4. Gen 4

1) Gen 3: I played competitively during this time and I really got into pokemon during this time. It added many new things to make the game more interesting like EV's and natures.

2) Gen 2: It was revolutionary in terms of new features and it was amazing for the gameboy colour.

3) Gen 1: What can I say, it's the classic and it's still fantastic.

4) Gen 4: It was alright, the special / physical split changed quite a few things and created interesting new threats.

5) Gen 5: Honestly?... Bleh... It didn't change much besides making rain dance teams a real PITA and making entry hazards the new cool thing. I like the new TM system though, but other than that...

Has to be Gen 3 for me!

I only played gen 2 out of the others so I can;t really rank them but me and all my friends invested a lot of time into gen3 :)! All my fav pokemon are in it and you get MewTwo :D! I also loved the island's and being able to get the rare birds was awesome!

Hmm. Generation 1 distinguished itself from the next three (in a good way) as did Generation 5 (in a bad way). So!

1) Generation 1

2) Three-way tie between the next three generations

5) Generation 5

Yeah, Generation 5 was really running out of ideas. I'll never forget Trubbish. Generation 1 was when they were fresh in with ideas for the first Pokémon, and they were great.

From best to worst. (My opinion) :P

1. Gen 5

2. Gen 3

3. Gen 1

4. Gen 4

5. Gen 2

This is coming from a guy who played pokemon games since gen 1. I felt Gen 5 impressed me the most because it felt like playing gen 1 again. Not knowing any of the pokemon and what they were capable of. So, it ended with me finding a team I thought would work well together. No other generation of pokemon in the game except until after you finish the game. I felt Black 2/White 2 should have stuck with that formula of keeping other gen pokemon out until after you finished the game so you could learn more about what new pokemon you are dealing with from the current gen.

Gen 2, please and thank you.

  • Two regions, one being an entire post-game quest and one big nostalgiagasm
  • None of the older Pokemon were left behind; the whole classic 151 were all present and accounted for. Minus legendaries.
  • Two new types, something that took them almost 15 fucking years to do again. I hate you, Game Freak.
  • The day/night system was introduced and actually implemented. More than often in later generations, they just throw in Zubats at night and don't really have any other changes between the times of day.
  • Natures are a huge bitch to put up with, to the point where it actually makes the game less fun. It's the biggest fucking headache catching/breeding the same damn species of Pokemon just to get one with the right nature AND the right ability. Good lord, I hate natures so much.
  • Team Rocket makes a comeback. Because who doesn't love Team Rocket?
  • Seperate paths. You can actually choose where to go after your fourth gym badge. Left, to the ocean, or right, to Lake of Rage. Seriously, I'm not joking. You can do either one first and get either badges 5/6 or 7 first.
  • New Pokemon are desirable. They're far less common than the RBY Pokemon, and you actually have to put forth effort to find/catch them. In gens 3 and up, you're pretty much forced to use new Pokemon.
  • Gold is best protagonist.

I could go on all day. Here's the rest of the list:

2. 5th gen

3. 1st gen (Sorry guys, I'm a 90s kid, too. There just wasn't anything to do after you captured Mewtwo.)

4. 4th gen

5. 3rd gen

Also, here's the main reason why I disliked Heartgold and Soulsilver:

img-1821556-1-pokemon-cards-images-pictu

It's not nostalgia, the new art design is just fucking awful.

Alrighty then.

Generation 2

Generation 4

Generation 1

Generation 5 (5 and 1 are tied)

Generation 3

Honestly, I thought the way they took out the day and night feature in gen 3 was really stupid. It's also impossible to get an Espeon or Umbreon without cheating.

Having played all 5 gens, I must say that my list is as follows:

1st place: Gen 1,2,3,4,5.

I don't have a favourite gen overall. My favourite pokemon are from gen 4 though, storyline wise gens 3&5... but I like gens 1&2 as well.

I'm an allgenner!

I'm gonna go ahead and rank them in 3 different ways, because I think they all did some things better than others

In terms of the new Pokemon introduced:

1. Gen 5

2. Gen 1

3. Gen 3

4. Gen 2

5. Gen 4

Really loved the new Pokemon introduced in Black/White, and the gens in the middle invoke a lot of nostalgia in me. And while there are definitely Pokes I like in Gen 4, it probably contains the majority of Pokemon that I don't like...

In terms of gameplay mechanics:

1. Gen 4

2. Gen 5

3. Gen 3

4. Gen 1

5. Gen 2

The physical/special split was probably the best thing that ever happened to battling, and after Gen 4 Gen 5 really expanded upon its mechanics well. Gen 3 introduced abilities which were also a miraculous thing, and Gen 1 is straightforward but classic. The reason Gen 2 is last is probably because it introduced a number of useless moves... it's great that it introduced Dark/Steel though.

Regions:

1. Gen 3

2. Gen 4

3. Gen 5

4. Gen 2

5. Gen 1

I like Hoenn, it's a nice place. Sinnoh was cool too. Unova was nice but a little circular. Gen 2 and one are last because I feel gens 3 and 4 had better versions of their regions honestly, in the remakes.

Before Generation 2, psychic types were the absolute jerks of the Pokemon the world, in Gen 2 they introduce Dark types to counter them. Sure they introduced useless and annoying moves like Protect but they also split the special stat to balance things out. Gen 2 also introduced shiny Pokemon, just throwing that out. In many ways Gen 2 was like the Renaissance of the Pokemon world.

As a coordinator, these are my opinions!

Snapshots' unpopular opinions!

  1. Gen 4. It was where I started playing and watching Pokemon, and a little Luxray named Volt holds a special place in my heart. My first level 100. That my sister lost. And people wonder why we don't get along. Also, my ribbon collection was huge. I won almost all of my contests... I miss my game...
  2. Gen 3. Damn Torchic. Damn.
  3. Gen 1. It was alright so I liked it.
  4. Gen 2. Meh.
  5. Gen 5. Goddamn ice cream Pokeymans.

Gen 3

Gen 2

Gen 1

Gen 4

Gen 5

Generation 3 for me had not only some of the best Pokemon designs (I could literally count on one hand the designs I didn't like) but it also had some of the most memorable and unique locations to me. Yeah, you had to surf to get anywhere, but by this point in time that's (if you'll pardon the expression) "water under the bridge". The first generation was a classic, no one can deny that and it got the whole thing started...but it was rife with problems. The follow generation not only fixed those problems, but added numerous new things and actually gave you a post story reason to continue training in the form of Red.

Then we get to four and five. The fourth generation was kinda...lackluster for me. Sure it added new mechanics and such and the pokemon designs for okay for the most part but nothing really stood out as overly memorable to me. The hype ruined five for me cause I spent nearly a year listening to people go on about how this was the best Pokemon yet, but now that I've had a chance to play it very little stood out to me, the least of which is the fact that very few of the Pokemon I can even remember or name off, save for a small handful..

Gen 5

Gen 3

Gen 2

Gen 1

I haven't played generation 4, so I can't really rank it. If I had to guess where I would place it if I had played it, I would say just below 5.

The way I look at it you can't be my favorite generation unless I would choose to play you over all the others generations that have happened already, in the distant future. Fast forward 5 or so years and I think the pokemon generation (of the ones that exist now) I'm most likely to pick up and play is generation 5.

2. Gen 3

3. Gen 1

4. Gen 5

5. Gen 4

I actually like all 5 of them equally...but if I had to rate them that's how I'd do it. I'll explain why

My first video game I ever played in my life was Pokémon Silver, so Generation 2 is number one for me hands down.

My second Pokémon Generation was the Hoenn one, so that is number 2 due to nostalgia.

Generation one was a classic, and I'll always have fun with my copy of Pokémon Yellow.

I didn't really care for Black or White. I did however love Black 2, it was a ton of fun.

Generation 4 was probably the one I played with friends the most. I had some good times with it.

In terms of the Pokemon introduced in each generation, I'm going to have to go with this:

  • 1
  • 2
  • 3
  • 4
  • 5

In my opinion, the Pokemon have just gotten worse and worse over time in terms of originality and design. There's always some that I really like, but I don't think I'll ever get as attached to any as much as i did with the original generation.

In terms of the actual gameplay, things introduced, and overall playabilty and fun I had with them, it goes like this:

  • 2
  • 3
  • 1
  • 5
  • 4

Generation 2 was amazing for it's time, and also allowed you to go back to Kanto which was an amazing feature. I really liked generation 3 because of the improved graphics and gameplay, as well as the gen 1 remakes. Generation 1 is a classoc, can't beat it. I didn't really like generation 4 or 5, though I did like Black and White 2 alot more than I ever did with the Sinnoh games. HG/SS are a totally different story, but I don't want to get into that xP

I personally hated the old Pokemon...but I don't even play Nintendo games anymore, but here we go...

  1. Gen 4 (Mostly the Pokemon's designs...)
  2. Gen 5 (stories...)
  3. Gen 2/3
  4. Gen 1

Sorry...but I thought Gen 1 sucked, and I have no real opinions on Gen 2 and 3.

Before I do this, let me say that I've been fan since the start, so no newbie bias here.

1- Gen 3 (Gen 3 was so fantastic, I liked everything about it.  The region was awesome and the pokemon were really cool.  It's also the first I played in depth, meaning the first I finished)

2- Gen 5 (No matter what people said about it, Gen 5 was a solid gen.  It was full of innovations and the pokemon designs were cool too.)

3- Gen 2 (Gen 2 is cool. It's probably the one I played less though due to me not finishing the remakes and not owning my Crystal cartridge until much later. Still a really good generation for its unique feel)

4- Gen 1 (It's the one that started it all.  I actually own a pokemon yellow cartridge.  It may be less interesting to me than some the other gens but you have to start somewhere.)

5- Gen 4 (Gen 4 was more so-so than the others. The rival was meh, the region was somewhat alright and the pokemon designs were gorgeous for some and atrocious for others.  Still a great gen though)

As for Gen 6, I have great hopes for it and maybe it'll be able to top gen 3 if it's really as good as I hope it will be.

Hm, gonna be hard considering the fact i like more or less all the generations a whole lot.

  • 1. Gen 5,

I just really liked gen 5, it has my favorite storyline of the generations easily, and the pokemon as much as people seem to dislike i quite liked alot of them. Maybe i'm just an easy to please guy, but i still liked the designs.

Also N is my favorite pokemon series character. as of right now, and team plasma is awesome. The music in G5 is also among my favorite, things really picked up in the music department for me here, and i love music.

I also like the areas a good bit, and the seasons felt like a nice touch to me.

There are also some interesting moves that got added and dream world ablities are also interesting aswell.

I also like how there are a good bit of pokemon who are like special pokemon, Pokemon that require stuff to get them and secrets, especially in B/W 2 with stuff like Volcarona and stuff.

Oh and they also got alot of good bug pokemon in G5.

Ps. I don't hate the ice cream cone(Don't hurt me to much.)

  • 2. Gen 2,

I freaking love gen 2, idk I just do, its the first gen i played back in pokemon crystal, and I also really like the remake aswell, plus the fact that Red is a cool end boss for the game.

Umbreon is also my favorite pokemon, so yeah, i have to put this somewhere up there, along with Espeon being awesome, and well every evelution frankly.

Despite the number being low in terms of new pokemon, they are still among my favorites, and again Umbreon is my favorite pokemon right now.

  • 3. Gen 4,

I know alot of people don't like Gen 4 much either, but I actually quite enjoyed it, and the new evolutions introduced in it are some of my favorite pokemon, not to mention the Special/Physical split just made things make sense finally, beforehand things are just so odd. It just felt like when they did the Special/ Physical split it made things make sense, seems like something they should've implemented from the start.

I also found that the story got better, especially in Platinum, it wasn't amazing, but it was still good. there is also tidbits of backstory about Cyrus throughout the game which is interesting. Gives him depth the main story doesn't totally do. And the distortion world is one of my favorite areas probably, just because its eerie and so cool.

The other pokemon released in this gen that aren't evolution are still pretty cool, they're not my favorite rooster, but i still think its good.

  • 4. Gen 1.

This one is a close one between Gen 3 and gen 1, and really its a close one for the whole of all the generations, but i'm gonna put Gen 1 here.

Gen 1 is of course a very nostalgic generation for most, being the first pokemon game, and I won't reject that it is nostalgic and a great game, I just don't feel like I have enough like for it compared to other gens and i don't want nostalgia to be my only reason.

However don't get me wrong, i love gen 1, as i love gen 2, 3, 4, and 5, Its just not my favorite ;p.

Gen 1 has alot of awesome pokemon though, and definately I see why many have this their favorite, because theres plenty to love, i just like other gens a bit more ;p.

The fact the special physical split isn't present unless your playing through heartgold or Soul silver is kinda akward to me, but its still a great game. And i've still played through it many times.

I do have to say that i personally find Gen 1's villain team to be my least favorite, team rocket was just kinda eh in Gen 1, in gen 2 i liked them better, and even then i like the other gens villain teams better.

Also, while i have Red and Blue and Yellow, i tend to play the newer versions, mostly because I like the new mechanics, and because i can transfer my pokemon over to my newer games(And being a big collector of pokemon as of late, thats important to me.)

Anyways, lots to love about gen 1, i can see why many put it as their favorite, but this is my favorites list, not theirs :P.

  • 5. Gen 3.

This one was hard, but i ultimately decided to put Gen 3 here, idk why frankly, they're very close together, and i actually quite like Gen 3 and many of its pokemon, I like the villain teams to, especially with the double split, and the storyline was quite good to aswell.

I also like the battle frontier, and many other features of Gen 3. So honestly i don't really know why its here, just idk something told me it should be slightly below gen 1, of course i can honestly tie them.

Also Treeko is my favorite starter so far. a close 2nd being Cyndaquil in Gen 2.

Idk, i haven't played gen 3 in a bit to be honest, so maybe i should replay it and see if i can reanalyze it to get better reasons why its here.

Whew.. Ok, i think i'm done, It was an on the spot explanation, but it'll have to do.

really and truly i find all the generations have their aspects I like and don't like, but overall i'm a huge pokemon fan, and for me to stop playing the series, or really even dislike the games will be quite hard, I guess i'm a bit of a pokemon fanboy, but its been a big part of my gaming life since i started playing really, and will continue to for quite a while i imagine.

Next to MLP, Pokemon is like my 2nd place thing that i'm most nerdy about xD.

So yeah, i love all of the pokemon series, including many of the spinoffs and such. I think i'd be more then happy to play any pokemon game you put in front of me.

1. Generation one.
2. Generation two.
3.Generation three, generation four and five. (In that little bit of order.)

See, the thing is..generation one will ALWAYS be my most favourite, but.. I like other Pokemon from other generations, too. I tend to not group my likings by generations, but I did here.

I don't hate any, either. Heck, besides generation one and two, I like the rest pretty much equally, I guess. But, again. I don't judge anything based on when it was made, or how many Pokemon looked good, blah, blah.. I just...Like pretty much every Pokemon, (Except Trubbish. And Rhyperior, which I have a bad experience with.) and I'm happy with my most favouritest. (Charizard is my favourite Pokemon, but..Yeah. I mean in general, the ones I like the mostest.)

I hope that made sense. Flying_Charizard_by_MAKENNAW12.gif

1: Third gen. The one that introduced me to the Pokemon games. It also helps that it introduced several of my favorite Pokemon and has a geographical diversity unlike any other region (sea, forest, volcano, desert, Santorini, etc.).

2: Fifth gen. My favorite in terms of gameplay and story. Also introduced best Pokemon.

golurk.jpg

3: Second gen. Johto has a nice feel to it, a sort of homelike simplicity. It has Goldenrod, but that's about it in terms of big hustle-and-bustle city. And I like that.

4: Fourth gen. I'll admit, many of the evolutions were unimaginative. But the games had a lot to do, and had a very interesting main antagonist. Overall, though, not the best if you ask me.

5: First gen. Sure, it's the original, but it hasn't aged well to me. Mostly in the comparatively-bland bad guy team and low region diversity. It just doesn't stand out to me in any way other than being the first. The rest have actually earned their reputation with me.

That's not to say I dislike any of them. They're all Pokemon, and as such, I love them all.  :)
