There is a possibility that King Sombra is not a true unicorn at all, but an evil presence that takes the form of a pony to inspire fear in his victims by reflecting their worst attributes in their own image.  When he appears as shadow in the show, he is formless.  Maybe he is in fact a shadow spirit or evil spirit with no native form.  His horn and face structure are noticeably different from other unicorns in the show.  I think either he was born as a true unicorn but underwent a kind of magical metamorphosis in his quest for more power that granted him this power at the cost of his former unicorn-status, or he never was a unicorn at all, but an evil shadow that assumed a unicorn-like form.  In this way, he has no cutie mark, because only the pure ponies have them (changelings do not, as they are pony-like beings but not ponies, nor do windigos, which also appear pony-like in form but are in fact evil spirits in pony-like forms).

 

That's pretty much what I'm trying to say. :3

Well it would depend on who he was before he gave in to dark magic. Any gifted unicorn/alicorn can use dark magic like celestia and twilight. So if sombra was a normal pony before he turned evil then all we got is his name and whatever the hell he was good at. But since we dont knkw that ITS UP TO THE FANDOM! But maybe he is a blank flank?

Well he's using dark magic, maybe he wanted to study magic like Twilight when he was younger.

I'm sure his cutie mark has something to do with magic.

Pretty sure it would be magic related. Cutie Marks don't necessarily have to be about something good right? Because he was definitely a specialist in Dark Magic.

 

I'm guessing something like Twilight's cutie mark except with darker colors to give it a more evil look.

Nobody's purpose in life is to be evil. Hurtful behaviours are born from fear. Fear is an illusion, and the actual opposite to life.

But wait, he was actually alive! Isn't that a contradiction?

Not at all, he wasn't being himself, which is probably why Sombra wont get a cutiemark until he discovers his purpose on life.

In all seriousness now, maybe if he does have a cutie mark, I would imagine that it may have something to do with one of the following:

 

1. Crystals

2. Shadows (and/or Magic)

3. Being a King

Sombra doesn't actually has a cutie mark he is a blank flank
