Have you or anyone you know been in a auto accident?

So, as the topic suggests, has it happened to you or anyone you know?

The first incident happened in Florida near Orlando. My mom was getting off of Interstate 4, and there was a sign that said "yield" in the merge lane to get on the main road. Turns out there is no merge lane, but a sharp piece of concrete curb where the merge lane should be. There should have been a stop sign, not a yield sign. It was raining and when my mom saw that there was no merge lane, she slammed on the brakes and sort of slid on to the road. We sort of T-boned a SUV, but it was a soft tap, and we hit the tire, not the bodywork. There was no damage to the SUV, so the guy just decided to let it go. We didn't have any damage either, but the hood was stuck for a while.

This was one incident. I'll post more later, my phone is about to crash. :3

Yeah. When I was 5 or so my parents were fighting in the car and my mom told my dad to pull over. In doing this the car fell on its side, making her kind of bonk her head against the window. My dad broke a few ribs, as said earlier my mother whacked her head, and I'm pretty sure I was unharmed, maybe a little scratch here or there. All I remember is my mom handing me some m&m's, and then the car just kind of fell. I then remember being in the hospital, seeing my mom and stuff. The accident wasn't too bad and nobody was permanently injured, so it wasn't so bad in the end.

I've been in two, neither one really being my fault. First was back in 2011 when I was driving my parents' truck to school, and traffic came to a sudden and dead stop in front of me. I slammed on my breaks and avoided rear-ending anyone, but the guy behind me wasn't so lucky. Damage to our truck was pretty minimal, thankfully - bumper got pushed down, but that was about it.

Second accident (ha, I do have a pic of it!) happened in August last year when I was taking a former bandmate home late one night in my old Sebring. A small deer hopped over the barrier dividing the freeway and tried to cross me. I was going about 70 mph right before I saw it, and managed to slow to what was probably about 50 before impact. The passenger side of the car struck its ass, and both I and my friend saw the thing fly up in the air. Deer was nowhere to be found when I got out to assess the damage, but the grill and bumper were cracked and the passenger side fender was dented in. Car was totaled, but drivable. Used the insurance money to pay off the credit union and had it taken to the junkyard.

Gawd, I miss that car. img-1935847-1-sad.png

EDIT:

Forgot to mention, a couple months after I got into my first accident, my pops wrecked the Buick we inherited from my grandma. He was driving home from work and made the mistake of falling asleep behind the wheel while driving 129, a very twisty highway in the hills. I believe he sideswiped a boulder which caused the car to roll. Car was obviously totaled, but he walked away from it without a scratch.

I was driving home from a road trip with my grandmother, who isn't a very good driver, while my dad, my sister, and my grandpa were in the vehicle up ahead. We hit some black ice and slid across the road into the ditch, doing highway speeds. No one was hurt but the car was totalled. Good memories

My whiny little sob story:

My first accident was rather awful, and it was very traumatizing for me. I was on my way to my house to work on my children's book, which I was writing to read to local school children. I made a left turn at a busy intersection, and I both turned too fast and the other guy was speeding. I was in a very tiny little car, and the other car was a big white work van going 65 mph. I got hit in the worst possible spot and spun around several times, having lost consciousness by this point. I woke up in the broken chunk of metal that was my car. It was totaled. I saw blood and dust everywhere. My head and hand were bleeding and I was sore everywhere. My leg hurt. I was having a severe panic attack. It felt like I was in a horrible dream. An off-duty firefighter, who was eating in the nearby restaurant ran out to help me, and eventually I was able to escape the car. I called my parents, and they didn't answer. The paramedics arrived and forced me to lay down in the rain for a long time. I got put into medical stuff and put on an ambulance. All I could smell this whole time was the awful smell of airbag. I got taken to the hospital, where I waited with fucking glass in my hand, unable to move and needing to pee for several hours. I was depressed beyond belief, and after the shock wore off I bursted into tears. I wanted to die. I ruined everything. I was a failure. I disappointed everyone. I worried everyone. After a long time I got released, pee'd, and I left. I cried my way home, hating my life. I planned to commit suicide but never did it.

I never fully got over this, but I've made some progress.

Only been in one myself. I was in my grandfather's truck with my dad. Some woman rear-ends us while we're stationary and waiting to make a turn. Barely moves the truck and causes no damage to it, but her car is totaled. Nobody was hurt though.

A friend of mine who was one grade ahead of me was killed in a wreck during his junior year after falling asleep behind the wheel. The next year another friend of mine who was in the same grade as me was killed when he fell asleep while driving. Another friend died the year following when he took a curve too quickly and rolled the car. Several relatives have been in a number of accidents over the years that were non-lethal, but few of them didn't involve totaling their car and usually another person's too.

I've been only In one accident and that was when I was back in high school. I was driving to school around 6:30ish am and it was lightly snowing but there was much sleet on the roads. Roads were narrow because of a snow storm we had about 2 days before. There was a big fat Ford F-350 hogging half the road which forced me to steer away to the right. Somehow my car lost traction and I side swiped a honda civic. My girlfriend at the time was in the car with me and her side got hit. Fortunately none of us were hurt.

Sadly I know of a few. The most dangerous one was when my mother was pregnant with me and it was a cold and icy night. Some idiot in the other lane drove her off the road as well as himself, where she barrel rolled into a tree and was sling shotted to the other side of the truck. She blacked out, and was found by a passing cop and airlifted to a hospital. Pretty scary.

I've been in a small one, where I was in the back and the car suddenly accelerated and drove right into the neighbor's garage, not harmed too badly.  Recently in my town, there was a crash around 1AM involving 3 high schoolers crashing into a tree at high speeds, no survivors.

I've been in an auto accident at least 3 times, corresponding with elementary school, middle school and high school. I don't remember the one during elementary all that well but I vividly remember seeing the damage done to the family van afterwards.

The second time was when my mother was attempting to drive me and the sisters to a certain location and became hopelessly lost. It was nighttime. At some point, we came upon a road with no lighting or visual aids of any sort, and my mother decided to turn around. Bam. Out of nowhere some car comes in and hits our side. Thankfully no one was hurt, though it was quite startling.

The third was relatively tame. I was being driven home from high school and got rear-ended by the car behind us at a traffic stop, which wound up pushing our car forward just far enough to rear-end the car in front. Kinda funny in retrospect.

I've only ever been in one accident, and it was quite recent. My dad was driving near to a turn in the road, and some idiot who was driving RIGHT in the MIDDLE of the road bashed into us, badly scraping our car in the process. He then proceeded to drive off like nothing had happened (in complete violation of UK law)

It gets worse: Since we didn't get the license plate of the guy who scraped us, the insurance company considered it to be our fault. Which if you ask me is bull spit.

Ummm well this isn't really an accident, but some complete butthole hit the back corner of my car, and then he just drove off, I was like "wtf just happened right now."

Luckily, I haven't been in a car accident yet. I hope I never am.

I was just in an accident last Friday.

I was trying to get into a lane on the highway, but this guy was in my blind spot. I overcorrect, spin 180 degrees onto the median and hit the gudarail. Two of the three metal ropes on the guard got under my car. The right side of the car took some damage.

I haven't personally, but I can relate to how horrible such things are because my older sister died in one, someone was backing out just over a blind hill in the road and hit her car so hard it flipped a couple times and killed her near instantly. The same wreck also lead to my oldest nephew having a pin in his leg, and his younger brother loosing a good deal of the flesh on his forehead and needed skin grafted on. It's a miracle the third of her kids, a  baby survived.

Personally, I was in 2. Just rear ended though. I guess there is a shock factor, regardless. Things happen so quick.

My mother died when I was eight in a car wreck. She picked me up from school, dropped me off at my dad's (they were separated) then she was on her way to her boyfriend's. She ran into a tree and one of the branches when into the car and broke her neck. She died instantly. People knew she had picked me up from school but didn't know I was dropped off at my dad's. They thought I was thrown out of the car and were looking for my body. But either way, I'll never forgot my grandma telling me she died. I used to pretend she was on vacation when I was little because I didn't wanna think of her being dead.

Driving scares me really bad now.

I had this thread here opened last night...and Google had saved it in my open tabs when I restarted.....and with a rather grim coincidence...my little sister was in an accident tonight.

Well just tonight actually, my little sister was involved in an accident, she was fine...but my moms 2011 GMC Canyon was totalled in the process. front license plate was found half way down the block, driver side front wheel was wedged under the frame and so was the bumper, head lights were gone hood caved in...No pics, as I wasn't there, I'm only going by what my mom told me.I know what dealership it was towed to, so I might be able tog et pics. This only happened 3 blocks from our house too.

4 years ago, I crashed my motorcycle...walked away from it. bike had to be repaired though.

3 years ago, My mom T-boned some lady running through another intersection, this also happened about 2 blocks from our house. again, it was the other drivers fault, they ran the stop sign...totaled my moms van at the time.Lady in the other car should not have of been driving in the first place.

6 years ago, on our way home from the city, we hit a deer at night....mangled the front end of my dads car but we managed to drive it home....even if we were missing a headlight, had a smashed bumper and hood.. Car was fixed though. and we had venacin steaks for the next month or so.

Well, my neighbor and her friend were driving home one night, so they took a new road to the house. She was driving 75 before they flew off the road, slammed right into a tree, since they weren't wearing seatbelts, one of them flew into a tree, head first, blood and brains everywhere, while the other one landed in the grass. She looked over at her dead friend before she killed herself by jumping into the lake, atleast thats what the cops told us.

My father has crashed every single vehicle he has ever had, besides one, his Porsche 911 Turbo which was stolen. Both of his wrist crashes were in BMWs, one was on the motorway, it was raining and dark, traveling the speed limit of 70mph he hit a patch of road where it had been resurfaced partially with concrete, meaning some wheels were on concrete and the others were on Tarmac, it caused the traction control to freak out, spinning the car, he then flipped and rolled down the road. The next one, he was speeding coming up to a roundabout, a car was sat there but didn't have working break lights, he didn't realise it wasn't moving until it was too late, he plowed straight into the back of it and sent it flying over the roundabout.

He's even crashed reliant robins and motorbikes, but he has never had a single severe injury, not even a broken bone.

I've had two very minor accidents on my motorbike, both within 2 weeks of eachother, both in December. The first, I set off and didn't realise there was black ice on the road, I leant to turn and ended up traveling on my side :P

The second, I had my bike back a week after being repaired, on my way home from university I started going up a hill behind a car (at a safe distance) when it decided to stop suddenly and reversed straight into me, I wasn't injured but my poor bike had to go back in for repairs again :(

Oh yeah... Got into a crash accident not long ago, around 4 months back. Not that its severe or anything, but that was basically one of the most fun and exciting accident I've ever been to! The road was basically unstable and unsafe to go to, but I was a little bit naughty and decided to try out the road at high speed.

EDIT: When that accident happens, I was launched out through the front window at 10 metres high.. ( Apparently , the car can fly, so it flew with me.) Luckily, I didn't do any face plant back there but instead, I did a barrel roll!

Too bad the car received critical and severe damage due to that accident! I only got minor injuries...

Yeah, one time I was in the car with my mom and younger sister when I was about 11. It was some type of Honda mini-van. We were stopped at an intersection and my mom was looking at something my sister was showing her. She saw what she thought was someone pulling out but was really someone turning, so she drove forward right into oncoming traffic.

I remember seeing a man's terrified face in his truck and he was staring right at me before he plowed right into us at about 45 mph from the side. My mom banged her head on the window and cracked it, got herself a concussion. The car spun around twice and stopped on the side of the road. While it was spinning my vision turned grey, stuff seemed like it was in slow motion, and my ears were ringing. The dude was nice and there was no damage done to his vehicle, but ours was totaled and we had to get rid of it.

He didn't press charges in the end, so that was good.

I've only been in a vehicle during one accident, and it was really quite pathetic.  Basically, the person behind the truck my dad was driving didn't notice us stopping for a stoplight until it was too late, and they rear-ended us.  Our bumper got pushed down and no one was hurt, so all was good.

My sister on the other hand...  She was driving home from work on a narrow road and in a somewhat large truck.  She was driving a little too close to the side and nicked a telephone pole right on the edge of the road.  This caused her to lose control and the truck flipped over into a ditch.  It was totaled.  By some amazing miracle, my sister walked out of that with nothing but bruises from the seatbelt.

The funny thing about that story is that we were planning to sell that truck soon, and we were able to get significantly more money in insurance than we ever would have gotten selling it used.

I've been in a few minor ones, nothing to speak of really though.

I did go headfirst into a ditch at 45 MPH, though. I was taking my sister, her boyfriend, and his sister to their new home in a part of town I'd never been in before. It was about 1 AM, and the headlights on this 20 year old little Toyota truck were awful. Well, nobody told me about the 90 degree left-hand turn at the end of this very long straightaway. Well, the brakes locked immediately, being of absolutely no help. That solid wall of dirt and rock did the trick though.

My head hurt like hell from the hitting the hard plastic steering wheel without an airbag in it, but that was the extent of my injuries. However, because this truck was so small, my sister and her boyfriend had elected to ride in the truck bed so we wouldn't be all cramped as hell in the cab - my sister was unharmed, but her boyfriend's shoulder left a huge dent - it bent the edge of the bed all the way up to the cab. ohmy.png

Amazingly, the truck hit the ditch at such an angle that the headlights and grille were completely fine; in fact, the truck drove just fine afterwards and still does to this day - but that front bumper was absolutely destroyed. tongue.png

I can't think of anyone I know off the top of my head that was in a serious accident, I went to the store with my Dad once and he pulled out without any incident but out of nowhere this girl pulls out and wasn't paying as much attention and ran into us. No one was hurt and the damage was minor but it did scare us both.
