Thoughts on Soccer

So, I was entering a soccer game today, and people kept looking at me like I had just done something terrible. Not just me, but my whole team. This got me thinking: what do people think about soccer players? Do we look like little boys in short shorts, playing a women's game? 'Cause let me tell you, soccer is BRUTAL. You run until you get subbed out, no matter what position you play. So, what are your thoughts?

It's a double-sided coin, as I've both played it (Defender/Midfielder) and watched it.

As a player, you are 100% correct. It is a very brutal sport, and It's fun to play. I really enjoyed my time with it, even though it was one of the toughest sports I have ever played.

As a spectator, I would rather gouge my eyes out than watch a full match. It is extremely boring to watch, and It's laughable how a lot of people fake injuries and play like any contact should get them a ban for life.

Soccer isn't exactly a woman's game, since both genders can play it against each other on opposite teams. I think that soccer is a pretty popular sport in Europe, in my opinion.

Not exactly an opinion. It is the most popular sport in Europe, if I'm not mistaken.

Well soccer (which IMO should be the real "football" but whatever u silly americans call football soccer...)  is the most popular sport in all of europe the world! (yeah!) tongue.png there's games all the time and loads of people loves it. Personally I think it's okay to watch on tv. However I don't know much about it and I don't really care either. Though, that's probably because I don't like sports in general. But I think it is more entertaining than american football. I like to follow sweden though happy.png and I played FOOTBALL* (I'm gonna call it that from now on) when I was like... 5 lol.

I used to play soccer when I was younger, I eventually quit though, Not because it was "too brutal" but just because it was rather dull to me. Like many sports, I can't stand watching a full match, it usually ends with me asleep. Plus, I'm not a fan of team sports, it usually involves one person carrying the team while another just keeps screwing around. Soccer is an okay sport, but nothing really amazing, really. I'm not a fan of sports in the first place, though.

Not just the most popular sport in Europe, the most popular sport in the WORLD. Over 611 MILLION people watched the World Cup. It's not the most boring sport to watch (that honor goes to PGA golfing...) but I'd much rather watch Monaco or LeMans than the World Cup.

I have no idea. It is probably the most popular sport in Europe, as for the United States it is known all around the world. All we know is, Europeans really do love football.

"So, what are your thoughts?"

But what's your thoughts of the sport silly happy.png  Have you even watched it? :P Cause you just went in here and said something we already knew without answering the topic question itself xD

I guess I am silly. :P My thoughts on soccer is, I used to play it when I was a kid but I never exactly had a full interest in the sport. So, I took a 6 year break from the sport.

Yeah, golf is definitely most boring. I just can't stand watching soccer.

Honestly I'm terrible at sports, but I guess it's fun to watch.

The reason we call it soccer is because the it's short for "Association Football". The word was first used in the UK, it went from "association football", to "asoccer", and eventually "soccer". So the British only have themselves to blame for the word "soccer". xD

I also found this if you're curious.

The experience of watching a live game while in the stadium is an experience in which I can pass away happily. I am a huge fan of football. I'd watch anything from the English Premeire League, to MLS. Especially watching those extremely witty players who do all sorts of tricks on the pitch. Now on to the point. Soccer is probably the best sport there is, especially with the abundance of talent due to the fact that nearly every country plays it. Now for a message to those who may care:

David Beckham chose to own an MLS team in Miami(I live there, woohoo).

I have pretty much no opinion on soccer and its players, tbh. I'm not a sports person. That being said, i like soccer more than american football. I have more respect for soccer players because it seems to require alot more endurance than football.

Soccer is the world sport. It is beautiful. I do not see the correlation between soccer and women. The men's game is the most popular sport worldwide. In fact, people think you're weird if you like American football in Europe. There, soccer is a true man's game. A mixture of finesse and strength. A mix of teamwork and individual creativity. Soccer has it all. It is indeed the beautiful game.

1 it's Football NOT soccer

2 its the world greatest game besides cricket

3 its fun as hell

it seems like only Americans think that it is a women's game cos men usually play American football or base ball or other far shittier games

I'm not going to say Soccer as I am British.

Football is, in my opinion, the best sport in the world. Proud to support my team NORWICH CITY FC... ON THE BALL CITY!  I watch nearly every home game. I'm hopefully going to be getting a Season ticket soon, so I can watch ever home game.

I think Football supporters are the best supporters out of any sport... Unless you're a Manchester United supporter. If you don't believe me, look at Celtic fans. They are amazing.

The premier league is a harsh league. I'm listening to Norwich VS Man City right now. Norwich are 4 - 0 down at halftime... WTF IS GOING ON? We aren't doing well this season. Don't know what's going to happen...

I bet soccer is extremely tough to play and I'm sure it's fun on top of that. But it's not exactly fun to watch. The games are long. There isn't as much scoring going on. So something like lead changes aren't very common (that's kinda why I don't watch hockey either, despite the sport being so brutal) like they are in American football or basketball.

But I never really was a huge fan of watching soccer. I liked to play--and I'm talking about a bunch of 4th graders in an empty lot with an old ball and some buckets that marked where the goal was--but watching soccer is kidna...boring.

If I'm watching a sport, again, I'll probably be watching American football or basketball. That's what I played in high school so they're the sports that are closest to me. If you like soccer, that's your deal. No disrespect to you soccer fans. It's just not my thing lol

I get easily bored while watching soccer games, it's just not all that interesting to me, especially when I don't know anyone on the team.

Playing soccer is okay. It's not the most fun of sports, but it still is a nice way to pass time.

To all the Europeans who say that it's football, not soccer, I just use both terms interchangeably because people in Canada look at me weird if I say football. In Indonesia, we just call it "sepak bola", so basically, that's "kickball".
