Why is it frowned upon to dislike Friendship is Witchcraft?

I don't really like the parody series Friendship is Witchcraft. I know I can't be the only one. So why when I express my dislike, people automatically scold me for it. Dislike Alicorn Twilight? That's fine. Hate Mare-Do-Well? Well, that's not surprising. You don't like Friendship is Witchcraft? HOW DARE YOU THAT'S A FUNNY, ORIGINAL PARODY IT EVEN HAS SONG BAUJBSNKMSK.

I don't understand. What is it about this series that people get violently defensive about?

Personally, I don't like it either. It probably has to do with the fact that it's popular and usually well-received. When something is really popular and considered "good", people can get rather defensive, even if it's not a big deal.

I like the series, but I've seen tons of criticism and enmity for it in addition to all of the praise and love for it. Any fanbase for something is going to have fans who frown upon those who hate what they like because...they're hating what they like.

As a non-critical person, I like it. Yes I agree there are a lot of things about it that would consider it not worthy of watching, but I usually enjoy chunks of what I watch, and don't complain. As for why people dislike your dislike: it's intolerance at work if they really want to chug it down your throat, but it's more on the defensive side otherwise.

It's the fact that opinions on the net are well dangerous at times. you have one opinion the other guy has another and poof hate is born.  Most likely it fans you forget that not everyone can like everything you do.  Some people just don't like cartoons, i'm kind of that way except its anime i don't like.

 

As for freindship is witchcraft...I cant stand that series, its as bad as those stupid cencored episodes, I just dont see the humor at all.

The fact of the matter is that anything with a fanbase gets fanboys.  Those people like something so blindly, that they refuse to even acknowledge the flaws that it may have, even when others that like it do.  These are people that get extremely defensive and protective of what they like.  So they will bash people that don't like what they like, even when they have perfectly valid reasons for not liking it.

 

Example:  I can't stand FFVIII and FFX.  I've listed reasons why, including FFVIII's storyline that is a contrived mess which makes no sense past the first disc, as well as FFX's horrendously annoying characters (Tidus is especially annoying), shallow teen drama thrown into Godzilla plot, and other things such as the plot grinding to a near-halt for upwards of 10 hours. 

 

These are perfectly valid points.  And yet, people that love these games will get extremely defensive and say I don't know what I'm talking about (a classic fanboy defense is 'you don't know what you're talking about').  Teenagers tend to be the most notorious in this regard.

 

So yeah.  It's just one of those things that happens when so many people like something.  Worry about every individual one, and you'll end up pulling all your hair out.

I freaking love FiW. I mean, both my avatar and my signature are references to an FiW episode. I don't know how you couldn't like it. Now PONY.MOV was a WHOLE different ball game and I can see why people wouldn't like PONY.MOV. 

 

I personally liked both of them. "Nobody fucks with Rainbow Dash!"

 

But I'm not one to frown upon someone who disagrees with me. I mean, that's the beauty of being human: we're all different. I mean, if you don't like FiW, I'm not gonna say you're wrong for disliking it. I mean, my roommate gives me a lot of flack just because I like ponies (he does it jokingly, of course) and he doesn't because he thinks it's kinda girly and whatnot. I've tried to tell him it's great but I'm not going to tell him he's wrong for not liking MLP in general.

For whatever reason, several of us, myself included, have a different opinion on this. 

 

To me, it seems like Friendship is Witchcraft has more staunch critics berating to than fans loving and defending it.  I personally like it for the most part.  FiW is one of the better abridged/fandubs of FiM I've seen and they put a lot of effort into making them.

I like the parody for the songs, but I don't like the humor since the humor isn't exactly saving the parody. I don't think people are frowned upon when you don't like something, plus FiW has the annoying trumpet sound effect every time.

I don't like it, but no one ever says anything about me disliking it.

 

It might be like the best pony scenario:

 

You say you don't like someone's best pony, and they get all jump and defensive. (I know, I'm pretty bad about getting defensive about Rarity Trying to work on that.)

 

You say you don't like FiW, then someone does the same? I guess?

 

If you don't like it, just don't be a dick about it. Be polite. If you're polite about it and someone gets mad, they look like assholes, not you

Its not, simply its not, i've heard people who talk about how its always disliked, and i've heard people say that its frowned upon to dislike it.

 

The truth is, its not either, its just you like it or you don't. Its up to you. If you don't like it then its ok, nothings wrong with you or anything, its not like your obligated to like it, obviously not everyone is going to like something, we don't all have the same interests afterall.

 

Me personally i like it, and if others do or don't like it really doesn't matter.

 

Sure its fun to talk about with those who watch it, but really if i like it i'll watch it, if i don't i want, simple as that.

 

You can do the same with not liking it, you can not watch it and do something else, and not really worry if others like it or don't.

I personally enjoy it, but I've never heard anyone berate others for disliking it. Just ignore them and tell them that we have enough haters outside of the brony fandom alone.
