It's too late to cut out a member of the mane 6, as it is also too late to make it a mane seven. Such dynamics could work, but it would have to be done like that from the start.

I went back and looked at my original post and in no way shape or form did i say having six hurt the show.

Sir I love more.  My favorite rpg is Suikoden and has over 101 character than can join your group.

Again I made the thread in response to the thread "the main 7."

 

as a counter idea.  I did suggest the reason why apple jack likely gets a lack of focus is because they have 6 characters to focus on. It's the same reason her fans get upset when anyone mentions a character getting more focus. 

Personally I'd be fine with a second main 6.  (the b Team LOL).  Three more cmc members and you'd have just that.  Now do not the cmc episodes work with 3 protagonists?  Yes or No.

I think your so hard coded into the idea that in mlp "Only main characters get episodes."

 

The whole show point is friend ship.  So why should twilight sparkle only have 6 friends?

(yes the elements of harmony which most people will tell you is the worst thing on the show).

 

The whole idea that the shows message is friend ship is why the main cast would be able to do an episode like sonic rainboom cause they'd be their to support a friend.

Maybe they're just running out of ideas for fashion and country themes. It's not Fluttershy's fault.

 

A beastmaster can be useful. Twilight would have been petrified a bit longer (they should have some spells for it), especially if you need that one cockatrice to undo this. They would have been dragon food in season 1. She manipulated Discord, so that he can be useful. They would have injured a manticore or vice versa. Yes she's useful.

 

 

All of them could be as generous as Rarity, though. Sorry, Rarity fans. -.-"

I could never get rid of any of the mane 6. I love them all too much, and I'd go crazy trying to pick one to get rid of. They're all so awesome in their own individual ways. I feel as though the show would definitely feel lacking if one of them left, vanished, or whatever.

I don't ask for much from threads, but they should at least make sense. This one doesn't. MLP has featured six main characters effectively for three seasons, and there's no reason why they can't go on doing it. None of the Mane 6 is disposable.

I skipped past it. So I dunno what points were made.

Anyway, I think the problem doesn't lie with there being too many protagonists...moreso the way the episodes are divided amongst the mane 6.

 

I mean, seriously...there hasn't been a true Rarity episode since Sweet & Elite, which was the 9th episode of season 2, and AJ is called the best background pony by some fans.

 

They ended up giving far too much airtime to RD and Fluttershy in S3.

 

Then, Twilight was just randomly thrown into episodes in S1 and S2, where she has no affect on anything. (Didn't see this problem in S3.)

 

So...it isn't the amount of protagonists, in my opinion; it's the unfair spread of attention they get when compared to each other.

 

I think there should be at least 2 episodes for each mane 6 pony per season, maybe 3 for Twi, given her role.

 

Not 5 for Fluttershy or Twilight and 1 for AJ or Rarity.

If I were to decide on cutting one of the Mane 6 out of the show, I wouldn't be able to decide because they serve a contribution or at least parts of the show's dynamic so it would be incomplete to get rid of one of them.

What makes the Mane Six, themselves is that they work together as a unit and are always willing to help others also helping one another. Twilight is willing to be as loyal as possible to her friends, and she is still able to make another friend it's just that it isn't the same with removing one of them.

Could you see Pinkie being that kind and sweet to discord? Her doing the things that Fluttershy does? As for the dragon, I think only Flytters could've done that in that moment.

It just doesn't make sense to what the show is about... but I'd still probably watch the show (assuming Twilight is safe no matter what) if any of the others "left the show" except for Pinkie Pie.. if that were to happen, I would debronify myself forever!!

Hmmm.. regardless, I think Fluttershy would be better at getting Discord to see the "good in himself" than Pinkie Pie.. Fluttershy would be better suited for the task of "reforming". Pinkie would also get too impatient I think with Discord if she set out to "reform him"...it wasn't like Fluttershy was able to help Discord in a couple seconds...

I think all the characters are necessary, i don't think taking one out is necessary, i mean they're all great for their own reasons, and who cares how other shows archetypes of the group are? MLP isn't other shows! Other shows are not about pastel talking ponies! And especially not those liked by both genders!

 

So i don't see why MLP needs to be akin to those shows, its great as is, and taking out a character is only going to cause people to be mad because people like each of the mane characters. I will agree there is no need for a 7th character, but there is no need to take out any of the mane 6.

Much as I personally would like to see a reduction in Fluttershy or Rainbow Dash in favor of more Rarity, I don't think it's right.  There's no *objectively* bad character among the six, as they all have their reasons for being loved.  And as much as I love Rare, I wouldn't want to see someone else lose their favorite character just so mine could get more screen time.

Ah there you go.  this is totally true.  See that's the thing.  her friends lead her when it comes to friend ship.  But if you'll notice they don't learn like she does.  Maybe the message is to understand friend ship perfectly you have to be hopelessly anul retentive and have friends who will carry you through your flaws?
