Operation:

Tell Family and friends I enjoy My little Pony Friendship is magic

Hello My name is Stephen and I live in Scotland, I am 19 years old and will be 20 fairly soon, I have been activly seeking a job, I still live with my parents and I have 1 Brother and 2 sisters.

I have enjoyed "My little pony: FIM", and like many other fans, don't want to tell anyone as it is embarrassing. Recently however I managed to build up enough courage to tell my family slowly person by person and it has went well for the most part.

I have so far told my:
  • Mum
  • Older Sister
  • Younger Brother
This just leaves my:
  • Dad
  • Youngest Sister (She will be the most likely watch this out of anyone)

Telling My Mum and older sister went down fairly well and both have been telling me not to worry about it or get embarrassed (I still do, But the support is great)

I have just recently told my younger brother who is nearly 16 and the response has not been as I had hoped, By no means has he tried to make me upset over this however he has said "I Wish you never told me this" and now there appears to be just a clearly awkward atmosphere when I try to talk to him, This has made me depressed :(

I Don't know if I want to tell my dad now, I am sure he would be supportive but to get a reaction like my brother, with him, would be terrible...

I have posted this to seek advice from anyone who is/has told their family/friends.

If there are allot of these threads then I am sorry.

Just get it over and done with, yes I know how it feels, but I felt so relived when I didn't have to hide it any longer.

Also there's a big difference between your dad and younger brother, considering you're younger bother is only 16 it's safe to assume he's not as mature as your dad.

You need to show them that it's not just a girly kids show. Introduce them to some of the more manly areas of the fanbase such as the many fanbase raps and the Stephen Colbert shoutout.

I agree with the post above me, you need to stand up for what you enjoy, you have to explain your interests to those who think they are mediocre. When I told my family, they were fairly calm about it.

Dad: He teased me about it for a while, he doesn't really mind now.

Mom: She is at least happy that it inspired me to learn to draw.

Sister: She could care less.

But it all depends on who is the stricter parent, which will most likely show who it will be harder to tell to.

Why does it make your brother feel awkward?

I suggest finding out what your dad thinks about it, before you tell him.

Did you ever think I get lonely?

Did you ever think that I needed love?

Did you ever think, stop thinking

You're the only one that I'm thinking of?

I really want to tell my parents and brother.. But it's really hard... You are brave, I have told it to 3 friends (The ones I trust the most) and are going to tell more friends if they are talking about it or something... Good luck to you and all the other bronies that are going to tell other people about this :)

You gotta stop treating it like it's a religion. You're just telling someone you enjoy a show. In my experience, people really don't care that much. They just ask why and that's it. There are extremists who want everybody to adhear to their definition of "normal", but they're rare for the most part.
