A LGBT Section!

Well I'm pretty new, but I think would be a cool idea a forum or subforum for LGBT community. I have seen many pages with one, many guys and girls could exchange ideas and meet other friends like them (:

 

A little place for LGBT MLP fanbase it's a good idea in a big forum like this. I hope this suggestion be supported!

I'm not gay...

But judging on (some of) the above posts here that seems to be an assumption. But either way I would be supportive of this so cluttered LGBT topics can all be filed into one catagory/section

And so "not gay/heterosexual " sigh... people like me don't have to run in or get involved in issues or debates or simple chats regarding the matter UNLESS I want to or want to have a voice somewhere in the catagory. So that's my opinion on this matter ^-^

The sentiment is acknowledged, OP, but there are a few things that make a dedicated LGBT section unfeasible. 

 

Although MLP Forums is supports those from all walks of life, the staff are very conservative about adding new forum sections. We create new sections only as needed. The Debate Pit, for example, was necessary because of the sheer volume of controversial topics in General Discussion. The now-defunct Alicorn Twilight forum was created for similar reasons. Equestria Girls was created because it was an entirely new part of the franchise. 

 

LGBT isn't nearly big enough to warrant its own section. We do have many members who identify with or support the group, but discussion can easily be confined to just a few topics at most. Exchanging ideas and meeting like-minded friends can easily be accomplished in one of these threads. If they don't exist already, then you're certainly free to make them!

Well @Aquila I totally understand your point, I thought about this suggestion for these reasons:

 

1 The LGBT themes are so random in all forum, I tried to find the "joined point" of all, but it actually doesn't exist.

2 I think there are so many LGBT users here. 

3 I found this comment in a sexuality thread, I'm quoting "Please stay on topic. We have a place dedicated to debates about controversial topics, including sexuality, but this is not it. " I think the way it's fine but the ""behind side" it's pretty rude. If we can't discuss about be gay/ les because the discuss is turned as "controversial", well, then it must to have its own place.

 

if there is a LGBT section everybody could discuss about a lot of differents points, about themselves, about problems about it, talk about society, and like I said before, meet and talk with people like them. In a LGBT forum many users could have some help with so many situations about it. MLP is for sure one of the most representative LGBT franchises, in  many LGBT websites and media, MLP is followed. I hope the all team think about it. I'm sure if a LGBT section is open in few days would be pretty popular. Anyways, thank you for all points of view (:

Augh why does it seem like people are making a joke out of this. And regading its own site I'm pretty sure there's some out there regarding this already. I'm pretty sure Fabien is regarding a sub/section here. With the amount of LGBT or other sexuality users here I think it makes perfect sense. Since the amount of LGBT users here is prob 1/5 of the community here :/ (Heck possibly more). And I will say it again. Who said Hetero would not be able to have a voice in a LGBT discussion...?

I don't think enough threads are made concerning it to warrant dividing them off into their own discussion section. While I know the staff has no issue with and even contains several LGBT members, that kind of discussion also isn't tied to the central purpose of the site and in my mind, doesn't need to be separated from other threads without a good reason. There are several threads allowing people to debate and share their feelings on it in the Debate Pit, and there are several in General Discussion for LGBT members to come together and support each other. I don't see the reasoning for making a subsection for it at this time. It's a fairly narrow subject, it's not clogging up other sections unreasonably beyond my knowledge, and there are relatively few threads related to it as it is.

Also about order, it's alright, there are some LGBT threads but it doesn't mean order. A little place where you can find help threads,, discussions of interest, support and life experiences, would be fast and easy to understand.

 

For example, I read many people who doesn't know what they are; they aren't sure about themselves, so with a threads about the theme in one only place, where you can participate with other people like you, could help a lot your situation.

 

 Why would be a good idea? People who have the same interest and atmosphere are near between themselves. So with MLP like a common point, would be pretty easy the interaction; here is the right place for it (:

Besides the existing LGBT Support thread over here, I think that the Life Advice section would be suitable for any sort of help and support threads that people might want to make. Also, I'd like to agree with others in saying that adding a new dedicated section for this topic would not be practical in the sense that the current threads about this topic seem to be holding up pretty well on their own as a "section" or place to discuss anything related to LGBT.

To put my viewpoint as succinctly as possible, we're an eclectic fandom kind of built on the idea that our differences don't really matter and we can all just respect one another and have a good time regardless. Noticing that kind of attitude on this forum is what caused me to join and stick around way back when. I think a section specifically for LGBT members would undermine that and only cause needless division. One's sexuality should be as unremarkable around here as one's ethnicity.

@On The Ocean I understand your point, it's okay. But I'm pretty disappointed about the attitude about to try to include everything about LGBT in one thread.

 

I open a gay contact thread 1 hour ago, I guess but it was closed because a memeber of staff said me it's inclusive and that issue can be addressed in other threads. So I'm guessing why isn't everyhting about social media in one thread? or why isn't everything about MLP in one thread? or why isn't everyhting about Christmas in one thread?

 

If the staff think isn't not important open a LGBT section, why can't we open differents threads about gay/les issues? If every kind of discussion can be open as a different thread in the forum. It's pretty unfair.

We should have one, but there seems to be reasonable reasons against it, quite logical reasoning behind why it hasn't happened yet, or I'd be absolutely bashing the majority of posts in this thread. But it does get on my nerves how everything about sexuality is in just a few threads, and it is such a diverse and important topic. I go to a forum that actually has (technically in a way) three threads for sexuality, but that's a teen forum that gears towards those with things like ADHD and Bipolar Disorder, and ends up a lot of LGBT come there. That's only beat here for a whole SECTION of topics about mental disorders

Honestly, I don't see those who are a part of the LGBT group to be any different from those who aren't. We're all people, we all deserve to be treated the same, and we can all come on to this forum to share and talk about our common interest, My Little Pony.

If you truly want LGBT discussion, there's probably another site for it, but since this site has little to do with that, I don't see a need for that individual section.

As a number of the moderators have already pointed out, nothing really justifies having an entire forum or sub-forum devoted to the forums LGBT community alone, especially given the central purpose of these forums.  It's good to keep in mind that this isn't a community with a political purpose; this is simply an online community whose first and foremost purpose is to give people a place online to discuss MLP and all things ponies.  I get that there's a significant LGBT community here, but at the same time I think that there are plenty of locations in General Discussion already, particularly the Debate Pit and Life Advice, for that particular topic to be discussed.  The brony fandom is an all-inclusive phenomenon that's never been about breaking down subsets of the fandom into politically or religiously identified subgroups.  That's not to say you can't be proud about who you are besides a brony here; I've never made my Christianity and conservatism here a secret because I don't have to worry about people here being nasty about that.  But if we start making sub-forums for groups within our community here that identify themselves based on a characteristic that has nothing to do with MLP at all, like "MLP Forums LGBT Sub-forum", I feel like that would create more problems than good things.  Suddenly, you'd have people clamoring for all sorts of sub-forums; "MLP Forums Christian Sub-forum", "MLP Forums Liberal Sub-forum", "MLP Forums Heterosexual Sub-forum", "MLP Forums Conservative Sub-forum".  As far as I'm concerned, it could easily turn into a huge mess; it'd cause a lot of work and headaches for the mods, both because they'd have to make possibly many new sections for the forums and moderate said sections, and might even divide the community.  One of the joys of bronydom is that it is so inclusive, not exclusive, so in my humble opinion, there's enough places to go for personal, political, or religious discussions on these forums already, whether in General Discussion or even a Private Message, and this proposal, while certainly well intentioned, is a needless implementation.

Well i'm totally cool with LGBT people, but i feel like having a dedicated section for them would just make things feel more segregated, i like having all different kinds of people mixed into 1 forum, it makes things more interesting and i just like the connected feeling regardless of differences.

 

We don't really need in my eyes a different form for LGBT or really any type of people, it just feels like unnecessary separation to me personally.

 

It also feels like it could be its own forum really, i feel like restricting a place to a group of people should be kept to a whole forum, like were all bronies (well basically.) and were a group of people, but i don't feel we need any sub dividing of the groups.

I just don't see the point. If we can have this, why don't we have a hetero section? How about a Christian section a Buddhist section, an atheist/agnostic section?

 

If you want to find other bronies who are LGBT, make a thread about, I'm sure it will be very popular. Aside from that, I don't see why the LGBT members of the community need a section for discussing things. Can't they discuss it with the other members of the forum?

I don't foresee an LGBT section being added to MLP Forums in the foreseeable future, for reasons already mentioned above. There isn't much else to discuss.
