Should Birthdays Be Celebrated?

Don't see why not, considering there are so few good things in life I don't see why we shouldn't at least try to have one good day. Even though I've never really felt like it's anything to celebrate but having a twin sister it's not really my call I have never really wanted to celebrate it but do it because of her. So yeah I think they should be celebrated, because why not.

How else would I get presents

I actually feel more and more uncomfortable on my birthday in recent years, just because it doesn't feel as special and I don't like feeling like a bother, but it's still a great time to spend with family and loved ones. There's nothing wrong with taking a day out to celebrate having someone in your life or letting them do the same to you, in my eyes.

I definitely recommend celebrating birthdays. It doesn’t matter how significant the occasion is, and to many people birthdays are no big deal, but having an occasion for a bit of revelry is a good thing. People need a little something to break up the monotony in life.

It is very important to keep count or score about things (like post count for example). I say the same apply to your life counter. That life counter is expressed in number of years since birth. I think it is awesome to celebrate that! :balloon:

I don't really see a point. It's just another day for me.

If birthdays weren't celebrated then we wouldn't get presents  :ButtercupLaugh:

No, but really! I feel like I'm on cloud nine when it's my birthday, and I'm sure many others feel the same. A lot of people feel important and loved on their birthday, and I think that's pretty awesome. I think birthday's should definitely be celebrated! :balloon:

What is life? Is it nothing more than the endless search for a cutie mark? and what is a cutie mark but a constant reminder that we're all only one bugbear attack away from oblivion? And what of the poor hooman? Flank forever blank, destined to an existential swim down the river of life to...

an unknowable destiny?

I almost bled to death in my early 20s. It didn’t look like I was going to make it for a while, and it took some serious rehabilitation to get me back to a functional level where I can walk without an sort of mobility aid. I’m grateful for every day I’m alive, and while I’m not much for being the center of attention, I know the people that love me also want to celebrate my life on the day I was born, and I’m okay with that.

My family has never been big on birthdays. They stopped having parties for me when I was still in elementary school.

I mean apparently it depended on who's birthday it was. My birthday would go uncelebrated almost every year while my older brother would get a party most years even into high school. But that's because I'm an introverted, selectively mute loner anyways. Not that I see a problem with it, but that was likely why my birthdays almost always came and went unceremoniously.

I honestly don't care if anyone wants to celebrate their birthday or not, it's not on me to tell them what to and not to celebrate. Though personally I would say that it probably would be better to do so than not, especially in the family unit. Going to that restaurant or having that party is a great excuse to bring everyone a little closer together.

Yes, because I enjoy going to a restaurant when someone else is paying!

If others want to, I say go all out. In my case, there isn't a point. My birthday has become entirely meaningless over the years and this year was the epitome of that. At this point I'd rather not bother with it because all it does is make me hopeful that it will turn out alright when it very likely will not.

Do as you feel. If you want to celebrate your birthday, do so – if you don't want to, don't. :P

I've always celebrated it at least in some manner, but I don't find it as significant as I used to anymore – a year for a young adult isn't really the eternity it feels like for a little kid
