I would rank Twilight ahead of Pinkie in femininity. After all, Twilight is a Princess. You can't get much more feminine than that!

Twilight is far more into knowledge and science. No rule saying you can't be feminine and be into that kind of stuff, but remember how thrilled she was at the practicality of her dress in Sweet and Elite? Where pinkie loves everything sweet and saccharine. She wanted a dress with streamers and candy on it.

Yeah it was tough between Flutters and Rare for me. Fluttershy is submissive, which is often seen as a feminine characteristic... BUT Rarity's interests to me at least are the most traditionally feminine. She's the only pony who fantasizes about finding a stallion, she so rounds herself with fashion and jewelry. Fluttershy is far less obvious. His personality is feminine but Rarity has a girly personality, interests and general housewife mentality.

I dunno, Fluttershy might need to be ahead for this one. As you said, his personality is quite feminine.

Like Forlong Said...careful what you wish for.

But yea,I remember that in the episode Rarity was talking all about how she should make dresses and they should do a fashion show,RD said "That seems like fun" and it was pretty mind-numbing because rainbow dash is known for being the tough and athletic one.

I don't see going to plays or reading being very feminine... not to say she doesn't have a feminine side its just those points don't sound like it. Not to mention you can argue that along time ago only men could be in plays... I think its just a shocker because she doesn't seem like the type.

How to make Rainbow Dash more feminine?  I have an idea.

Make her a fan of a show called My Little Person:  Camaraderie is Mystical.

See, I don't think that's *entirely* out of character for her.  While she's not the first pony you'd think of as far as being into fashion, she *does* understand the idea of aesthetic appeal and the importance of self image.  She definitely values and appreciates what it means to look good more than any other pony aside from Rarity.  Of course, her idea of what "looks good" might be a little different from Rarity, but she does value that idea much more so than, say, Applejack, who is extremely utility-focused, being a farmer, and thus doesn't place much importance on appearance.

So yeah, I could totally see her getting excited over the prospect of wearing something that will make her look even more awesome.  And that gala dress definitely did that.

By the way, I think that a Rarity/Dash episode is long overdue.  I'm reminded of one little moment in Sweet and Elite where Rarity says she learned about the strengths and weaknesses of the various wonderbolts from conversations with Rainbow Dash.  I would like to see more of that- these two characters who are in some ways the opposite of each other, with very different interests yet still being close friends, enjoying each others company and learning each others interests.  Maybe Dash experiences her feminine side through Rarity and Rarity gets to be more rough and tumble through Dash.

Sorry, but I just don't see being obsessed with sweets as being particularly feminine. Nerd girls can be feminine too, you know.

I actually like how Rainbow Dash can have a girly side and still be cool. When people think of "cool" they almost always (if not always ) imagine masculinity. There is more to being feminine than wearing dresses and make up. I'm feminine, and I wear neither of those. I love musicals, I want to go to the spa, I show my emotions, and I'm not afraid to be myself. Rainbow Dash can embrace her feminine side without being a girly girl. Even though I embrace my feminine side, no one thinks I'm a homosexual. I actually want to see Rainbow accepting her feminine side more. I mean it's not like it doens't exist. She had several moments where she shows that she has femininity. She can still love sports and not mind getting dirty and embrace her femininity. In fact, there should be an episode about that. (Rarity and Rainbow Dash please.)

This would make a pretty good episode come to think of it. Rainbow Dash exploring her feminine side with the aid of rarity.

I think the creators would have already thought of an episode like this, maybe we will see it in Season six.

Reviving, because this thread seem like a good place to discuss the recent spa thing.  In my review of AJ's Day Off, I causally mentioned how much I loved what they did with Rainbow at the spa.  It wasn't until awhile later that I saw people mentioning that a lot of the community was upset by those scenes.  I haven't really seen this distress firsthand, but I'll take their word for it.  Apparently, it was controversial.  I didn't see the need to go into detail in my review, but I'll do so now.  I absolutely love Rainbow's embracing of a softer side.  I do not see it as being out of character at all.  Rather, I see it as her learning to try and embrace something new that she never really considered before, but actually loves.  There's a different between that and a person or character not acting at all like themselves.  There's no reason that Rainbow can't be tough, competitive, athletic, and enjoy being pampered at the spa.  She can love both.  It doesn't take away her identity or mean that she's suddenly somepony else.  I personally think this is a fantastic and overlooked message that may deserve more attention.  I think one of the biggest problems with society is people's tendency to not imagine others as being as complex as themselves.  People are quick to label and imagine others as being just one way.  It's important for people, young and old, to learn that there's no one way a person should be, and a person also doesn't need to be one way all the time.  People can have an unlimited number of sides to their personality, and they can like anything.  I'm male, and I love this show, as well as feminine clothing.  I wear dresses.  To everyone I know, this would seem very unlike me.  This is a side to my personality that I've always wanted to explore, but never have until recently, mostly out of fear.  Does that mean I'm "out of character"?  Certainly not.  I feel personally vindicated by Rainbow, as she shows us that it's okay to explore new sides of yourself, and it doesn't take anything away from you.  It only adds.

I'd love to see more exploration of Rainbow's feminine side.  On the opposite side of the curve, I wouldn't mind Rarity deciding that she wants to try something athletic, like the Running of the Leaves, and nervously asking Rainbow for some training advice.  It's these kind of dynamic traits that make the characters real, and encourages more people to do what they want, and try what they want, regardless of what others think--a lesson all of us need.
