The End of Fighting is Magic in a Nutshell (Man of Steel Parody)

Ummmm no, you have it all wrong.

Legally speaking if you use their licensed product, they can ask you to shut it down. It's a little thing called respect. You're more or less saying that we don't need to be respectful unless we are forced to. If someone owns something you're using and asks you not to use it, and you just spit in their face and tell them to try and stop you, you're a prick. Plain and simple. I know that the parody laws are quite grey, but it's a matter of are you REALLY paying tribute to Hasbro if you would so easily spit in their face when they told you not to use their product without their permission? Are you really honoring them? I am sure Hasbro was flattered that the game was being made, but for whatever reason they saw it as a threat to their IP (since neither you or I are Hasbro, we can not safely determine why) and asked it to stop. If you turn around and say "nope", you're an asshole. Simple as that.

If pursuing a not-for-profit artistic project (against the wishes of a multi-billion dollar corporation that cares only for its bottom line) makes me a prick, then sure: make me a gold-plated "Prick of the Year" name plate.  And while you're at it, go ahead a pre-order similar name plates for anyone and everyone who has made a single penny off of unauthorized use of the names and likenesses of their IP...including Feld0 and this entire website.

The point being, you're trying to draw a line in the sand, and I'm just saying it's ridiculous to do so.

It's a matter of when asked.

Hasbro allows fan works to exist, and that's good on them. However they CAN shut down fan works that use their IP under many circumstances. They don't, but if they choose to, the honorable thing is not to act like a self-entitled jerk for not getting your way and just try and do it anyways just because you don't think they will turn around and force you to stop, but instead to be respectful and respect their wishes. Even Mane6 knew that, and I am certain if they saw what you were saying they would be disgusted. They contested the C&D, but they respected it and walked away, not because they were cowards, but because they actually were thankful that Hasbro created the IP in the first place, and they had some respect for the owners of the IP.

You're showing no respect to the original owners, but instead acting entitled. It's deplorable. The "line in the sand" is called decency. Just because someone can't stop you from doing something does not mean you should do it anyways.

Everything you just said would make perfect sense if it was in reference to two friends in equal standing.  But this isn't the case: they're a provider of goods and services.  We are the consumers (mostly, though some of us are also providers of related goods and services).  I approach the entire thing from that standpoint: competition between the buyer/seller is a normal part of our society.  The primary seller doesn't get to dictate the entire game.

There is more I could say here but at the wishes of the OP, I will move on. I respectfully disagree with you and your statements, however we'll have to discuss them another day at another location.

Fair enough.  It looks like our disagreement really does come down to fundamental differences in how we view the community/industry.  Good to see differing viewpoints, but I guess we can leave it be if the OP wants to take the thread in another direction.

Nice comic, needs more of Hasbro screaming how he'll find the torrent of the beta build though ;)

He's not a villain though. Sure he's an antagonist, but in no sense is he evil or malicious. He's doing it to protect his interests. As any leader, company, country, or organization would.

Well, he tried to seize power by illegal means and is willing to butcher billions of innocents. With wubs no less.

The fact that he has a clear conscience does not change that.

Many great villains are convinced that they are in the right, its what makes them great villains.

I would argue that Zod is fighting to better his home planet and resurrect an entire species (quite a noble cause). Though other villains like Ras Al Ghul fight for a "greater good" goal it's apparent that villains like him are very apathetic towards his enemies, innocents, and allies alike. Zod however wants to protect/save his people in the only way he knows how. Not to mention that Zod actually grieves over the choices he makes and takes responsibility for the sacrifices that are necessary to make as long as he has done good for the sake of his people in the end. If Zod wasn't antagonizing Earth he would honestly be a Hero.

Posibility and Potential are my two favorite words.

With the power of Turkish Kung-Fu!
